I looked up Woodgate and sure enough, 8 England caps and he spent the whole of 2004-05 on Real Madrid's books with 0 appearances.

No caps whilst actually at Madrid though. Earned his 5th cap at Newcastle before leaving for Real Madrid, earned his 6th whilst on loan at Middlesbrough, and his 7th and 8th at Spurs.

I know, I wasn't disputing it, just found it incredible that he didn't make 10 caps.

When he was at Leeds, him and Rio were very much touted as England's future, with a lot of people rating Woodgate ahead of Ferdinand. He was a brilliant defender, injuries ruined him.

Years and clubs of the remaining players on my list:

    1948-49 - Notts County
    1956-57 - Coventry City
    1959-60 - Hibernian
    1962 - Crystal Palace
    1962 - Inter Milan
    1971 - QPR
    1976 - Crystal Palace
    1979-81 - West Ham United
    1979 - Crystal Palace

There may be a few more not on my list, so a bonus point if you guess one of those that turns out to be right.

I miscounted with Joe Hart being added. Added a line in where there wasn't one.

Close, but Martin got his first cap just after promotion.

Neither of them were. Interestingly, both played for Fulham at some point in their career.

Not currently, although one has been in management for 30 years, and another was briefly a caretaker manager in the Premier League & Championship.

That Inter Milan one is G Hitchens (can't remember first name, maybe Geoff or Gary?), he was the first player to play for England whilst at a foreign club.

Ah, it's Gerry Hitchens. He died on the pitch of some charity game after he retired.

Some more clues for the final few:

1948-49 - Notts County - Moved for a British record transfer fee of £20,000, strong centre forward. 22 goals in 23 England caps, also played for Everton, Chelsea, Brentford and Arsenal.
1956-57 - Coventry City - Goalkeeper, who also played for Chelsea and Derby.
1959-60 - Hibernian - Striker who started career in Scotland. Also played briefly in Italy alongside Denis Law, before moving to Arsenal and then Nottingham Forest.
1962 - Crystal Palace - Striker who also played for West Ham. Famously scored a hat trick for England in a win over Portugal in the 60s.
1971 - QPR - Maverick forward who also played for Man City and Fulham. Worked as a pundit for many years.
1976 - Crystal Palace - Winger, better known for 30 years in management across all levels in England, including the national side.

    Kevin Keegan?

This probably is daft as fuck so I apologize I was just trying to think of fellas who managed England.

    Terry Venables?

He definitely managed Palace (creating the Brighton rivalry), so I guess he probably played for them.

Roy Hodgson played for Palace or something didn't he? Was he ever actually any good as a footballer? '76 probably too late for him though.

Not Keegan, Hodgson or Venables for the Palace player. I'll give it till the end of the day for anyone to get the remaining 4.

Must be Peter Taylor simply by process of elimination on all other England managers.

Christ we're going to need a few of these in the next few weeks.

We need more trivia to while away the time stuck at home, so here goes.

Can you name the top African league goalscorer for each Premier League season since its inception?

Cisse scored 13 in 2011-12, but Adebayor topped the list with 17 goals, level with another African.

Yakubu topped the list 4 times, which is the most. Zaki snuck in with 10 goals in 08/09, level with Adebayor and 1 other.
