Hedberg is great as well if you're in the mood, it's a bit much if you're not really ready for manic one liners..

Actually, Norm MacDonald is probably my favourite American comedian, just in terms of how naturally funny he is (not a huge fan of his stand up shows).

Norm is great. The only downside is his weird Christianity bollocks. Him having a go at an amateur comedian because they made a joke about God was bizarre as fuck.

I saw the back end of a Jon Richardson thing a few weeks ago that was pretty good, so I watched that sitcom that his very Hull wife wrote and that was alright as well, even though her stand-up is atrocious.

I was accidentally exposed to the 'comedy' stylings of Kate Smurthwaite the other day through Come Dine With Me Couples on Netflix, absolute cringefest. The best bit being that it was filmed five years ago and since then she has ditched her dogsbody boyfriend so she can be in an open relationship with a load of other geezers

I actually watched that the other day, she came across as a right cunt.

The Durham episode (IIRC) with the woman who was training her man via stars was comedy gold.

I've watched a couple of Rich Hall's documentaries (The Red Menace and Presidential Grudge Match) and it reminds me how good he is at that. Although the couple of minutes where he raps in one of them is agony.

I struggle with standup anyway (the whole 'I'm funny, so listen to this' conceit it's based on doesn't pull me in) but box-ticking BBC standup is a crime against entertainment.

I watched the new Dave Chappelle thing, and whilst it isn't bad, I think he is funnier than the material. If somebody other than him was doing it, with the way he tells 'em, it would be a bit meh.

Munya Chawawa is the funniest comedian around right now and has been for a while. As soon as something happens in the news, he's got a joke video out about it - usually in the form of a catchy song. Dunno if it will translate to "stand-up" but that doesn't seem to matter anymore. And his name shouldn't hold him back from being liked by your Bamsters, cos its pronounced like chihuahua; easy.

Think he's on Channel 4 nowadays too, but idk.

Not sure the O2 is the right audience for him, unless there's a shuttle bus there from Halifax town centre.

He was absolutely huge in the early 2000's. Easily the biggest Stand Up at the time, its just aged absolutely horrendously.

Phoenix nights was absolutely terrific, series one especially. I think there's an argument to be made that it's the best opening series of any British sitcom EVER. It's easily top five for me anyway.

That Peter Kay thing was pretty great too. Max and Paddy was a massive disappointment when I first watched it but now enough time has passed I think it's...well, alright I suppose. I enjoyed his stand up as a kid but I'm not exactly in a rush to buy tickets. Might be alright I guess.

I missed this at the start of Covid. Tim Key, Alex Horne, and Mark Watson playing a game they made up called No More Jockeys. Funny stuff, especially if you enjoy Tim Keys' brand of humour.

I’ve watched la lot of Paul Smith videos on instagram and, rubbish name aside, his entire gimmick seem to be from interacting with the crowd so I doubt it would translate well to stand-up on TV. You’d really have to watch him live, and hopefully get front row.

Saw Basic Lee last night. Was pretty good. His routines have become a bit samey, yes, yes, I know that is a silly thing to say, although I always struggle to tell whether I've seen some of the material before and where. His audience also seems to have either changed quite a lot demographically, or has aged terribly. I don't think, as a 42 year old, I should have been one of the younger people in there. I blame the whole Brexit/Grauniad article gig thing, he now has a whole constituency who have no place actually being at one of his gigs and he plays to it terribly. I know that's always been a thing but it's too performative now. He also sort of lost it at a phone user which, whilst usually part of the show, I'm not sure it entirely was as it came right near the end of a massive set piece build up and he essentially flounced off to the interval instead of finishing it.

It also finished with a weird thanks for coming I don't really mean it when I'm being mean bit which was odd.

Kevin Bridges also got a mention, a reasonably favourable one.
