Kevin Bridges is funny but the way he speaks in four word sentences like some porridge Bruce Lee has always annoyed me.

Outside of that BBC show which was just his standup, Stewart Lee was last on TV when I was 10. I can’t see how you’d expect a young hip audience at one of his shows.

I appreciate that, but at the same time what looked like a majority of pearl clutching pensioners, a pair of them next to me left at half time after ostensibly being offended by some mockery of the royal family, was a bit of a shock.

Like I said, I blame his newspaper work more than his critical acclaim. The whole blaming the audience for not knowing what they were coming to see schtik has become reality.

10 was the right age to see Fist of Fun or TMWRNJ. It felt like kids television.

On stage persona Stewart Lee and violently left wing newspaper ranting Stewart Lee are very different beasts, and I've never been quite convinced that either of them are genuine. When you see him interviewed he's a lot more calm and boring which is probably closer to the truth.

Didn't he essentially tip his hand to that when saying the same about Clarkson's columns in his Top Gear bit?

Yeah, it is obviously all an act, both ways, this new show is much jauntier by his own admission and he is/was unable to maintain the dismissive aloofness throughout.

I want to reignite TTH’s beef with Stewart Lee. I walked for miles on Wednesday to go there and it was closed because he was performing there. Tosser. Ended up in a right poncey bar round the corner.

As a (reasonably) young loony lefty stand up comedy anorak, I honestly think the aging audience is more a symptom of there being a lot of much better comics around.

It's funny cus most of them are clearly fans, and a lot of them were clearly very influenced by/borderline ripping off his material, and he used to be so good, but I dunno, there's about 50 stand-ups i can easilly think of doing funnier material right now.

Comedy is quite a generational thing as well. I wouldn't expect people who are 20 now to be bang into stuff by a man whose formative experiences were under Thatcher and only a few years after the alt comedy boom.

I'm going to see Bill Bailey in a few months in Munich speaking of aging left wing comedians.

Ian Stone has started posting some of his clips on Twitter and they're absolutely abysmal. Guess the 'all Jews are funny' stereotype isn't true after all.

Went to see Frankie Boyle last night.

Bit of a weird show format. 15 minutes of Frankie Boyle Jr on support, followed by 'the interval' and then about an hour of the main event. I thought that was a bit short really, but then both were jocks so they were talking a mile a minute. Maybe that's 2 hours of material for normal people. Was pretty decent. Made fun of Rishi being 'wee' which was amusing, sort of showed the danger of touring what I guess was a topical show at one point. Bits about the trucking crisis, albeit another good bit, and Priti Patel felt a bit dated. Crowd was pretty solid dickhead [was in Brighton] and/or had no idea why they'd come. I'm amazed at the number of people who seem to go to these shows for a 'night out' ostensibly completely ignorant of the torrent of filth they are about to witness. No chance for walk-outs though without a break in the main event. Proper old lady in front of me looked horrified throughout. The now apparently obligatory interact with the audience segment was painful. Only arseholes like that, I'm not sure why everyone is stooping to their level.

I saw him last month in Belfast. It was pretty much the same show he did last year (which I was also at) which is probably why it also feels a bit dated.

    I still enjoyed it though.

So erm .... apparently Stewart remembers:

One for our boy Shinny, this. Saw Stewart Lee tonight and his Basic Lee show is brilliant. Anyway, stuck around to get him to sign my book at the end and I mentioned that I knew the guy who had called him "an aging cunt with an Eskimo face from the nineties". Brilliantly, he remembered what The Dugout was and then asked me to pass on the fact that some Inuit representative group contacted him because they'd seen his bit talking about it. Apparently they agreed that he had an Eskimo face and invited him to join their group as an honorary representative if it turned out he had Inuit DNA. I asked him if he had taken a test and he hadn't.

Another titbit from that gig is that someone interrupted his ending monologue to ask if he had an opinion on Gaza.
