Ah right. You can't do the SD as HD adoptable storage thing until 6.0. Have a look in the Play Store for 'Apps to SD' apps. Some will allow you to move apps to the card that you wouldn't previously. It even feels like they've reduced the resolution or something as all the icons feel fucking HUGE now. I won't even get into functionality (how do you mange to make unlocking your phone annoying?), what a terrible update.
It's worth bearing with. Definitely more useful once you get used to the cosmetics.

I'd prefer the look of the Pixel over the iPhone but they definitely have went towards that generic meh massive top/chin look like Apple do. But like always it just depends on which OS you want so there's little point in comparing them.
None of us will see Google Home until the middle of next year at least. It's US only for now.
Is it not just another Android phone? So it has good hardware, nobody really gives a fuck. The only way this sells is if they manage to make the brand popular and right now Apple and Samsung have an Oasis vs Blur thing going.
Hopefully they can do better than Oasis or Blur in not having their phones go on fire at least.
But yeah, it's never going to take off like those two. Not at those prices and not with only one mobile network per country selling them on contract. I really think they've went down the wrong path with these.
Er, think I've just discovered an iPhone IOS 10 bug. My phone just allowed me to send an SMS without unlocking the phone, by just asking Siri to do it for me.

I haven't had much time with iOS10 but were they adding unlocks like the Android 'trusted' ones this time round? Maybe it's only done it because it's your voice that asked.

The point is there is no voice recognition on iPhone. I've just had my missus do the same on my phone.

I've been too poor and too unwilling to give up my iPhone 6. Put it into repair today having smashed it in January 2015It only takes them a couple of hours apparently which makes me wonder whether I should have just done it myself 12 months ago.
Most of them are a doddle to pop a screen in if you have any motor skills at all.

phone contracts are a ridiculous rip-off. just get a sim-only contract. most of my mates on 24-month contracts are gonna end up paying 200-300 quid more than if they'd paid for their phone outright then got a comparable sim-only deal.
Yeah, I know. In the past I generally couldn't afford to pay out a lump sum in one go for the phone so was happy to get a contract that included the handset. I could buy a phone outright now and get a sim only and I know it'd work out cheaper in the long run but I'd feel bad paying that much money in one go for a shiny new toy, whereas paying monthly it doesn't really feel like as much.
Are there any good phones that are reasonably priced to buy outright? I was looking at One Plus Three a while ago. It looks alright. I'm not spending stupid money on an iPhone or anything.
They won't come down massively and try avoid getting one on contract anyway.
What's the budget and what do you mainly use it for (gaming, etc)?
£150ish for the Moto G4 which is meant to be really good, or £90 for the smart ultra 6 which i got. I don't object to people paying big money for high-end smartphones if they actually use the increased power and stuff, but I've still not heard a compelling argument for having a high-end phone for most users. When I've challenged (not in an annoying way, honestly) my mates about why they got a £500 phone they always start babbling about how "easy it is to use" or how the screen looks nice or some shit.
It is like the computer industry being built on YOUR MUM paying £500 for a laptop in curry's that the man in the shop recommended to her to go on foxy bingo and skype the cousins in australia which she could have done on a £200 laptop. And she could have at least got the one she did buy for about £50 cheaper online.
Why avoid contract?
Looking at sim-only deals, are they really cheap enough (with a decent data allowance) to save enough money to pay for the handset outright?
Ones I see seem to be around £15 a month or so. So say that's a saving of £13 a month (I'm not looking at going over the £28 a month I spend now on my contract) - that totals £312 over the 25 month period the contract would be for. That's not going to buy you a brilliant handset, is it?

The previous iterations of the G series were good, weren't they?
They were very good, but the software needed some getting used to. They always felt pretty cheap but well put together at the same time, but the G5 doesn't even manage the latter. Gaps in different sections (where the bottom comes off) and the layer of the plastic coating on the metal is badly finished. Battery life is horrendous (though it comes out) and it also can be prone to the main board completely dying like the G4 did also.
Camera on it is class but there's other phones with very good cameras out there that are far better whole packages.
What's the main thing you want? Screen size? Battery life? Camera? Certain software?
EDIT: the add on modules are also pretty rubbish on the G5 and they're scrapping them for the G6 so there won't be any new ones.
I suppose I mostly use it for browsing the internet, listening to podcasts and playing some games. Hardly ever use the camera.
Now I've actually thought about and listed what I use it for, I'm not sure I even need a new one. Although this one is getting a little slow and the battery life is getting worse.
If it were me I'd try pick up a Moto Z Play. It'll do anything you want really well but beats almost every single other phone in battery life. Now here I can only buy unlocked, so I'm not sure if your networks do it either which would be a problem.
That said, you'd be starting from scratch with a new phone so a factory reset of your current one would be a good option too. Would do it the world of good if you haven't done it in a long while. What is it?
