Ian Bell had a classic series - think he averaged 2.3 or something. Ajmal all over him.

I was in final year of uni at the time and I was in a phase of walking over an hour each morning from my digs by the Oval to the campus in Bloomsbury, so all I can picture is being very cold by the Thames with TMS in my ear and one of Aggers, Blowers or CMJ (bless him, was one of his final series I think) describing the scene of terror as Bell or Morgan faced up to Ajmal with what sounded like about 100 men around the bat giving it the big one in Urdu. One time I think three wickets fell on the width of Westminster Bridge.

I also associate the same walk with Jonathan Trott snaring Younis Khan lbw, so it's not all bad.

Would love to read through the old cricket thread for all those famous collapses.

What sparked the endless spamming of the Jonathan Trott cricinfo pic again? With his semi smirk.

No idea. The apex shitfest was the 13/14 Ashes and subsequent World Cup down there. Two winters of absolute turnip (I think there was a disastrous World T20 in between as well).

2013 tour of New Zealand had some horrors as well. Being put to the sword by (Two Metre) Peter Fulton. Think I watched way more of that series than should have been allowed, was working nights at the time.

I was devastated we couldn't take that last wicket in the dying light. Kane nearly had a 5fer as well.

Like all shit pie throwing spinners, Kane is dynamite against us with the ball. Averages 40 in Test cricket, but 17 against England.

Liberal Council siding with the Tory Rugby Club.

    BRISBANE CITY COUNCIL PETITION UPDATE

    Dear Coorparoo Cricket Family,

The club would like to thank everyone that supported us last year with our ‘Save Cricket at Coorparoo’ petition to the Brisbane City Council. The volume of support was incredible with over 2,000 people signing up. We have been told that this was one of Council’s all-time highest petitions. Well done!

As you may be aware, Brisbane City Council publicly responded to the petition today (Thursday 28 January 2021). Whilst we welcome the response, we note that our petition was submitted over six months ago (24 July 2020). Unfortunately, this is not unusual form for Council.

Coorparoo Cricket Club are disappointed with Council’s response to our community’s outpouring of support. Our club lived and thrived at C.P. Bottomley Park for a quarter century. However, Council stated that it is not their policy to engage in discussions or mediation between disagreeing Council facility users. If this is not Council’s job, then who is it?

Council justified Coorparoo Cricket Club’s eviction by saying that cricket will remain a fixture of C.P. Bottomley Park. To date we have not witnessed any cricket played at the site; only the destruction of the cricket block on Peter Burge Oval. We do note that Easts Rugby Union is hosting a junior Blaster cricket program starting this Friday night. Blasters cricket is a skills-based cricket program that does not use turf wickets, nor full sized cricket ovals. We also note the timing of the Council response and the commencement of the Blasters program.

Coorparoo Cricket Club are disappointed with the position that Queensland Cricket has taken in with regards to our eviction. The lack of representation we received from our governing body was heartbreaking and their complete apathy towards losing two turf blocks in Inner Brisbane should raise red flags for other cricket clubs and associations.

Council mentioned that Coorparoo Cricket Club were offered the use of the Balmoral High School oval (Balmoral Sports Complex). This field is a synthetic cricket wicket and as such, unsuitable for the kind of cricket we play. This further demonstrated the lack of understanding by Council of the value C.P. Bottomley Park’s turf blocks. This would be like an AFL club being offered a rectangular soccer field to play their games on.

Council may well say that “its not my job” to get involved in sub-tenant disputes. But we are committed to continuing our fight and to remain a positive, active member of the Inner East sporting community.

    Stay tuned for updates.

In these multi-sport scenarios (you get loads of them around south London) it's usually just a battle for who has the most money, which is rarely the cricket club. There was one a few divisions below us last year which was a hockey/cricket facility (good enough to be used by Surrey 2nd XI) and some knobhead from the hockey side came up with a million quid from his arse and said he was going to build over the cricket pitches and have 6 astro hockey pitches instead. I think they managed to fuck him off in the end but only after a year-long terrorist campaign. Councils don't give a fuck as they are all on the take regardless of party (I presume it's the same in Aus).

This particular case has the local Labor member backing the Cricket Club with LNP donors running the Rugby Club.

Easts has some serious wealth connected to the club through the 2 all boys private schools that feed into the clubs player base.

    Took five as well.

Pretty comfortable for Pakistan, this, after a very ropey start to their first innings. And as I type that they've come out after lunch and immediately lost a wicket.

Good spinners the difference between the sides, as it often is. Maharaj isn't bad but he's not good either.

I still have nightmares about Ashton Agar's 98 from number 11 (although I think we won that game in the end).

And the time Tino Best scored 95 against us, that was pure comedy.

We did indeed win that, just. Anderson got the last wicket off a DRS review when they were about 20 away from winning.

I graduated the same day as Agar hit that 98, as I remember going out for lunch and hearing Australia had collapsed to 8 or 9 down, feeling pretty confident we'd be storming ahead by the time we got back home. As it is, we turned on TMS on the way back and the Aussies were still in and Agar was on 80-odd.

Australia's last wicket contributed 226 runs across the 2 innings; the other 18 wickets contributed 348.

So massive aggro fuckwit Justin Langer has outed Marnus as the player involved in #toastiegate.

Again just say nothing you massive wanker.

Edit: i think it's time to give Jason Gillespie a go.

I think it's only reasonable that Labooshaaaaaane be banned from the team for a year. Given his previous better ban Smith too. Can't be too safe.

I hope all our new fans are prepared for the full 'experience' of an England away performance in the subcontinent, rather than Simon Jones pinging yorkers through the hapless Aussies.

The other good news is that thanks to SA-Aus being called off, if we beat India 3-1 or better we will now qualify for the World Test final. Should be a piece of cake.

This was our most recent Test in India, a truly memorable occasion:

    https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...full-scorecard

Literally cannot even picture Moeen racking up 146 from number four in that game, though I'm sure I saw it all. Liam Dawson 66*!
