Morgan is apparently a half breed so it's not as bad now. If he was really Irish it would be unacceptable.

English mother. Cricket is more lax than football with the nationality rules, so the best 2/3 Irish players in the last decade or so have all given England a crack while they were good enough and then headed back. Morgan hasn't gone back yet, and not sure he will, he's a ruthless bastard if ever there was one.

Had no idea we were playing Ireland in a test next week.

I'm still trying to work out who Joe Denly is, or why we have Roy opening.

Ireland are available at some tasty odds. We're resting several, Anderson fitness unknown and Tim Murtagh bundling in on his home ground. Danger danger.

Previous chat about Denly when I was also oblivious to who he is, just to fill you with confidence:

As for Roy, why the fuck not? Giving him a bash as our Sehwag can't be worse than an inevitable recall for Keaton sodding Jennings.

Since then he played two Tests, made 112 runs in four innings, and has been in reasonable county form. He'll bat at three I would have thought though I would have Dom Sibley instead.

Are we staring down the barrel of more Jennings? If Roy gets a go will it be at the expense of him or Burns?

The squad's announced, Jennings is no more.

    My guess would be:

    Roy
    Burns
    Denly
    Root
    Bairstow
    Moeen
    Curran
    Woakes
    Broad/Gregory/Stone
    Leach
    Anderson

Oooh, I didn't realise Jennings was out. Huzzah.

Still dunno how I feel about that line-up, mind. Glad to see Curran bossing it in that game against Australia A though.

Stokes and Buttler and indeed Archer are rested, so the cavalry will be back for the Ashes.

Archer the first person to be rested for a Test match before his Test debut?

I don’t even know what to think about the Ashes. Seems like years since the last Test match.

As long as Davey Warner has a breakdown from all the booing, I'm not sure anyone's too worried now.

He was a MASSIVE cunt when he played grade cricket. Didnt shake hands in one game for example.

Probably not because he is the type who loves that sort of back to the wall hostility but it is hard to say. The sledging from the English players will wind him up for sure.

Between him, Rawlins and Pat Brown we have some serious white ball gods on the way up. Find a couple of good spinners and we could win again next time.

The Euro Slam is a funny thing to base a bot around, although 93 year old Shahid Afridi playing for Belfast should generate good traffic.

The BBC pick your test team has Alistair Cook as an option to open - is that pie in the sky or an actual thing? Going off that thing we are very light in terms of decent/reliable or experienced batting.

Might as well have WG Grace in the options. I don't think Cook has got that many this season.

Dom Sibley is a legit option but falls foul of the 'only one grinder in the XI' rule. We also seem to have made up a bullshit rule that you can't make your debut in the Ashes.

It is pretty lol in hindsight how James Vince nearly single handedly torpedoed our World Cup chances. Poor guy.

Tom Banton looks to be the coming force at the moment in English top order batting, will probably be in the white ball teams first.

I've seen a lot of laughable things in cricket, but these shots of the Australian team being forced by team management to take their socks and shoes off after play and lie down on the outfield to 'get closer to the earth' is the very most laughable thing of all.

He's a decent quick bowler who could step in for Mark Wood. He is even more injury prone than Wood though which is saying something.

This team is a bit of a mess really, we have decided to just not pick any batting.

I completely forgot about Joe Denly. The top 3 is really vulnerable really ahead of such a big series. The entire middle order seems to be just ‘Joe Root’ as well.

Roy falls to Murtagh having already had two lives.

Murtagh now has 804 first class wickets at 25, far too good for these goons.

    EDIT: Make that 805
