Driving Miss Daisy was a solid Sunday film to watch. Working my way through some classics at the moment.

Well they started it back up during the last Avengers.

I saw it today, it's brilliant.

Not much chat about this film in here which is a shame as it's absolutely fantastic. So much so I'm pretty annoyed I didn't go see it at the cinema.

    Lion is brilliant.

Pretty disappointed by Moonlight. Took a long while to get going, had a spurt where it looked like it'd turn great and then pettered out.

    Shame.

No doubt. I've only seen three of the Best Picture nominees for this year, but I'd go:

Lion > Hacksaw Ridge > Moonlight

A bit like the IMDB list (which is now far too full of bollywood shite for me) I've been working my way through the best picture nominees. Might create a thread on it at some point.

    Moonlight is brilliant.

I've also seen Swiss Army Man, The Lobster and The Adjustment Bureau in the last couple of weeks.

All three were enjoyable but the first two were really weird, especially Swiss Army Man.

The third had the most potential but the weak ending seriously let it down.

    Rewatched The Departed.

Also didn't realise it was based on a Chinese film called Internal Affairs. Any good?

My two favorites for that are High Fidelity and Human Traffic but I've abandoned the latter as it's aged terribly. High Fidelity is still an absolute banger though.

Just got back from War for the Planet of the Apes. Really enjoyed it but I feel like the second one was better, but I probably need to re-watch the second one to confirm that.

King Arthur is astoundingly bad. If it wasn't for Jax Teller I wouldn't have made it to the end. There'll definitely won't be a sequel, right?

Went to see War for the Planet of the Apes today and thought it was better than the previous ones.

    Serkis and Harrelson donned it.

    It's the new 'thing'.

See one half of Rizzle Kicks in Rogue One or Beckham in King Arthur.

Went to see the new Planet of the Apes tonight. It was good, but not on par with the first two. The comic relief character was too forced and the plot was entirely predictable. Still thoroughly enjoyable fare. Andy Serkis is so good. I wonder is there another one planned.

    Also looking forward to Dunkirk.

Pretty much summed up what I thought, though I found the comic relief character much needed to lift the mood at points.

Supposedly he is also there to hint at more films, because he proves that there are other apes that Caeser didn't know about. So I think they may well make more, but probably a completely different side of the story, rather than another sequel.

The comedy was needed, but not to the extent that they did it. His facial expressions and general behaviour was funny enough, they didn't need to make him such a clown in the way he spoke.

There's a feminist on Twitter, Brianna Wu, complaining that there were no female characters with dialogue in the film. Ignoring the fact that there are several females with a lot of sign language dialogue, that there are like four speaking roles in the entire film, and that Nova is one of the main characters in the film. I don't know if I can link tweets on mobile.

Also, at what point can we start giving Andy Serkis acting awards. Because he completely deserves them.

    Saw two films yesterday.

First up was Training Day which I absolutely loved, Denzel and Hawke were brilliant.

Next was Jurassic World, I was expecting absolute dog shit as I had heard a lot of bad things but I didn't think it was that bad. Kids were absolutely fucking shit though, especially the younger one.

I watched a short film called Resignation today, and I'd be very interested in seeing it turned into a feature. Even watching on my phone and in less than ideal conditions, on a train on a fairly bright day, it looked fucking gorgeous. It's thirteen minutes long, seek it out.
