Yeah, I was hoping it would more closely follow Porno's plot. Maybe it still will, but it looks to be way too many head nods to the old one.

Did they really need to put in a scene where Renton is running through Leith and rolls over the bonnet of the car and smiles like the original?

My missus made me watch Army of One.

Fucking hell. Who pays to make this shit. 2/10

    Some others I've seen recently;

Notes on Blindness - fucking lovely

    Captain Fantastic
    - brilliant

Sing Street - very nostalgic, and pretty good, too.

I saw the latest Korean zombie sensation tonight, Train to Busan. It was fairly overwrought at times and in the second half it fell into the boring horror/disaster film formula of killing the characters one-by-one, but it was still very enjoyable and there were some memorable shots and scenes. I'd recommend it.

Just watched Star Trek: Beyond and I thought that despite not being as good as the previous two it was still very enjoyable.

    Visually stunning as well.

Idris Elba's accent in that did my head in. It reminded me of nothing more than that guest bint in Buffy the Vampire Slayer who appeared to be attempting a Jamaican accent but kept finding herself in Ireland or Russia.

    Couldn't agree more.

It was all a bit Sharlto Copley for me. I loved the character as well so it was especially annoying.

I watched Slow West it's a nice film and it's refreshingly short, 1hr20.

Have you seen Wrath Of Khan? If the answer is yes and you actually think the second of the new films is enjoyable, there's something wrong with you.

(Fwiw the first one is boss and the third one was enjoyable, if not a bit too wannabe-action-y)

    I have not.

I've been thinking about watching all the TV shows and films but keep deciding not to do so due to the sheer number of them.

The TV shows are horrendously old and shit now anyway. The old films are well worth a watch though.

Suicide Squad is a fucking mess. It's no Independence Day: Resurgence, but it's not far off. The CGI is shite, the acting is shite, and the storyline makes less sense than these things normally do.

I'd moan some more but I'll not think about it any more than the screenwriter did.

I'm going to see it next week, really looking forward to it. Can't remember the last time there was a good film on at the cinema, must be over 6 months ago.

I will cut your balls and eyes out and swap them round.

I want to see it in iMax 3D so I went to my opticians to get some contact lenses. After checking out my eyes they basically called them shit and said they'd have to order in some special ones. Next Friday at the earliest is when I can see Strange

Guy I know who writes film reviews for some Glasgow Student paper got to see Arrival the other week. Said its Villeneuve's best work, which is some feat, and is proper, grown up sci fi. His film of the year so far.

Extended version of Suicide Squad is coming out tomorrow. I've heard the original is bilge but that there was a lot cut out of it, so I figure it'll be worth a gander.

Don't these ULTIMATE CUTS usually end up being just the same film but it takes longer for it to end?

The 'Ultimate Cut' of BvS was incomprehensible nonsense with half drawn motivations and the most stupid 'we're not enemies after all' realisation I've ever seen, and the original cut of Suicide Squad was a fucking travesty, so I doubt the Ultimate Cut of that will be worth bothering with.

It'll be an extra twenty minutes of the worst ever Joker, maybe another five of Margot Robbie grinning at things, and a few extra bits of that appalling CGI stuff at the end.

I only ever saw BvS in the cinema but there's no way that adding more to it would make it any better. The line that pissed me off the most was Clark Kent asking "Who is that?" about Bruce Wayne. It's a tiny line, but for me it kind of symbolises just how stupid this movie was. The Martha thing is just insane, how could anyone think this is a good idea? Snyder and his blatant attempts to HUMANISE these superheroes, I suppose, when most people just wanted them to hit each other for 2 hours with a followable, maybe even unoriginal plot behind that.

I only watched the longer cut, it was bollocks.

I wish I had watched the normal one so it was over quicker.

My Scientology Movie is bizarre, and ultimately fairly shit since they weren't able to get any info on the subject other than that it's all weird and oppressive.

    Arrival this week.

It certainly was. Highly recommended. Sam Neil with another role that requires him to terribly attempt an accent. Still, he donned it. Also I found it interesting he narrated that New Zealand nature documentary program that was on the BBC a few weeks ago.

Just been to see Arrival. Really enjoyed it, but it is a bit boring at some points. Couple of people walked out the cinema but they were probably expecting more action or whatever. I'm giving it a solid 7/10.

Watched Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom last night on the telly. Utter shite, I thought. Elba was good as he always is, but the film was just a load of crap vignettes of things Mandela claims happened to him, with no discernible connection or continuity between any of them, and no actual storyline other than the historical one about whaats being bastards. The pacing was a complete mess.

Arrival is held up for wide release in Sweden because of a fucking film festival going on right now, so since I'm so desperate to see it I'm paying double the usual cost to see it now instead of mid-December. Will report back on Thursday.

    Still though, so excited.

Due to subject matter or the slow nature of it?

Anyway I've a chest infection so the next couple of days is gonna be all film. First up, Chan-Wook Park's new one, The Handmaiden.
