I've started on a rewatch of all the Marvel movies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...Universe_films). Currently up to Thor: Dark World.

Iron Man 3 is absolute bollocks, which I'd forgotten. Like if a 7 year old with ADHD was asked to write a James Bond movie after drinking 11 pints of Sunny Delight.

Gangs of wasseypur part 1 started quite well but then concentrated on older stuff which was way more boring.

Part 2 hopefully a bit better, but Christ alive 2hrs 40 each.

    2.5 to go.

1917 released on Monday, but I have to wait until 1st June for parasite. Odds on to have to watch 1 or 2 other crap Bollywood. Turkish or anime films in the interim.

Jim - how you getting on with your best picture films?

Part 2 of gangs of wasseypur was better but I’m not so keen on the film as a whole.

It was just five hours of “I hate him, kill him”.

    Avoid.

Two films to go now though, and neither are available to me. Hopefully two good ones left too..

I'm not. I have been completely unable to watch any kind of dramatised fiction since mid-March. Mildly tempted by Normal People but haven't even done that yet.

Moana was great. Made great use of Disney plus.

Tangled was a tad disappointing. Didn’t feel up to the usual standard.

Home alone is also still great and always will be.

I watched Homeward Bound on Disney+ last night, expecting to enjoy it on nostalgia value and not much else but it actually holds up really well. The three main voices are all really good and that fucking ending, man. Even knowing what happens it still got me.

Been on a real shark attack film kick recently, watched The Reef on Thursday and Open Water last night. Any recommendations? Seen Jaws obviously, Deep Blue Sea and The Shallows. Prefer the more realistic takes rather than 'the mega shark of doom' films.

1917 was very tense. Not sure enjoyed is the right word for it, but I certainly appreciated it.

A lot of similarities with Dunkirk.

Watched it earlier, it was alright actually. I can see why it was panned but it also wasn't garbage if you accept that all these films are B movies anyway. I always liked them enough without watching loads of them but the wife is on board which is rare when picking films so thought we may aswell watch a load at once.

the rookie was great. Kevin Costner is a guilty pleasure since the guardian. Must be a decent baseball player or fan with that and field of dreams.

I've not seen it, I probably will at some point, but I was reading a thing the other day that said Harbour and somebody else were rewriting scenes between shoots which Neil Marshall was against. Obviously I have no idea how much better or worse it might've been in its original form but that sort of thing never helps.

I just wish Del Toro had got to do another one.

I saw a review describing him as Bart Simpson which is on the money. Soundtrack all over the shop too. It feels like a tv series more than a film.

I watched, at very different ends of the spectrum, Coco and The First Purge over the weekend.

Coco isn't especially funny compared to Pixar's best but I still enjoyed it. Loved the design and look of the thing and it's properly melancholy in places and has a lovely ending.

The First Purge.... well, if you like The Purge films you'll probably like this. Not as good as the ones with Frank Grillo in though.

I also rewatched Dredd which is still ace.

I’ve been on a Marvel binge recently. Fairly entertaining stuff, although I’m just picking and choosing what to watch, regardless of release date / where it fits in the ‘universe’. I’d only watched the Iron Mans and the first Avengers, so it’s been fun delving a bit deeper.

With that said, that Captain America Civil War is just straight up nonsense. The flimsiest of flimsy plots, with no clear explanation why anyone takes the side they do. Clearly just an excuse to get all of the Avengers together for some banterific fight scenes, without having a proper story to put them in, conveniently happening in the lull between the releases of Ultron and Infinity War.

    I watched Get Out tonight.

It's about two-thirds excellent with horrible, anxious tension pretty much non-stop and then as soon as the reveal happens fairly standard horror stuff. Which is a shame. I mean the last bit isn't BAD but the film definitely peaks early.

Thought exactly the same. It's not dreadful, and if you're more connected with the subject matter it might add a bit, but a lot of it was bang average to me.

Isn't that partly the point of the film though?

It makes you realise your white privilege.

I see both your points. The difference between what you're saying is whether you find any of it directly relatable I guess.

I think from your post I probably liked more of it that you did, Yev. I thought it was ace right up until the 'why' was spelled out and then it because just another film. Before that I thought it was excellent.
