I rewatched shaun of the dead recently - still amusing. But that did make me decide to finally watch Paul which is absolute nonsense, but enjoyable nonsense.

The only good Lynch is Mulholland Drive. He does films for film wankers to knock one out too when realistically it's jumbled bullshit with zero narrative or tangible thread holding the nonsense together, and I'm usually a sucker for that stuff. Just watch Spring if you want weird, underrated, odd horror vibes.

Relentlessly bleak film. I found it gripping. Uprising in Mexico, whilst a wedding party for the elites goes on. Things go to shit.

Very very strong opening, sags a little in the middle, but I enjoyed my time with it. About 95 minutes long. It's fucking brutal in places be warned. On Mubi.

I wathed The First Omen last night, it was pretty good I thought. Nothing groundbreaking but some good performances and they nailed period setting.

There’s a Spanish film called The Coffee Table and holy smokes it’s good. Probably not as impactful as [the original] Speak No Evil, personally, but fucking hell what a film. Seek it out, but don’t look it up.

Regardless of whether it's "good" or "bad" (a couple of days have passed and I'm still no closer to really deciding) the brass neck involved in throwing $120M of your own money at something so unconventional and getting it out there as a big release is impressive. Financially very unwise, obviously. But fuck it. I respect it.

Had the day off work yesterday so I went & caught The Outrun. Trailer looked exactly my sort of thing, so I was really hoping it would be good & thankfully it delivered. Right up there with The Substance near the top of the list of the best films I’ve seen this year, although obviously they’re basically completely opposite of each other.

Saoirse Ronan is excellent & should probably be on my list of people that immediately signal a film is worth watching.

Got Sing Sing on Saturday, which I’m equally desperate to live up to expectations, but first I’m seeing Joker tomorrow, so that should be an interesting one given I thought the trailer looked good but it’s apparently bombing massively.

Love me some Gallner (Dinner in America is an all timer). However, yet another film where the OMG HYPE doesn't match the content. Blatantly obvious from the off, but a decent journey to get there.

I enjoyed it. Not that it was mind-blowing, but the 'how' was nicely done I thought, down to the slightly over-saturated color palette (loved the forest scenes, for instance). I will admit to catching on later than most to where the plot was going, though.
