Realised that I'd been eating bullshit every day since my momz left to go on holiday (supermarket pizza and frozen chicken burger type rubbish) and I felt a bit grotty today so I've panic-bought about 30 of my 5 a day. Gonna make my classic loads of veg pasta sauce, and momentarily feel slightly better about myself.

Is your mother in a long term lesbian relationship? This makes so much sense to me right now.

I'd have eaten the mince, there will be nothing wrong with it.

@Pepe, thoughts on chayote? A supermarket near me has started selling them, wondering if I should buy some and, if I do, what I should do with it

They're ok, nothing special. A bit on the soft side. Like some sort of soft potato. You can make a creamy soup out of it, that is good stuff, or some stuffed chayotes. You could also cook them and add some cream on top and serve as a side. I don't know, they're not all that great.

If you want to try some proper quality Mexican stuff, try tunas and/or nopales.

    Who?

My father never moved to the US. My mother moved when I was seventeen or so. I moved when I was twenty one. If that's not enough I also have a shit mustache that won't grow in the middle.

So they've started doing artisanal English pies around the corner. I picked one up today and then saw the back of the box.

Who the fuck goes, "Ya know what I want as a side for my Steak and Ale pie, a salad."

Even with the salad and whatever 'local twist' foreign muck they have packed it with, you can't ever imagine pies falling to the nonces in the way that burgers (and to a lesser extent pizzas) have.

That is a fairly standard thing in Scotland. I've never had one because I can't imagine why you'd want a pie surrounded by bread.

Bake Off made me want to try a Victoria Sponge for the first time, used Mary Berry's own recipe, absolute doddle-

If anyone's a fan of coffee cake then this recipe is great too- http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/8421/coffee-cake

I added blended walnuts to the sponge for something extra, it's very, very sweet if that's your thing-

I've never had it, but combining as it does two fine things in coffee and cake, what could possibly go wrong?

You can't go around having food threads named after you if you don't like coffee, for goodness sake.

Ok, it has a cream cheese frosting, but the actual 'red velvet' sponge is just chocolate sponge with food colouring.
