Competitive eating as about as idiotic as it gets. Can’t see any positive sides to it.

Yeah I'm gonna admit defeat here, especially as it's massively hypocritical considering I'll put away a 14'' dominoes in one sitting. Was gonna fight back with the tenuous argument that I'd at least acknowledge it as dysfunctional over-eating, but i mean ffs you're not divs, you know that anyway. God bless.

If you could take it to the WDYTOE and commence being ON THE ROPES it'd give the thread a real lift.

I remember actually having a spaz out very early on in my TTH career over something really innocuous when I was a bit pissed, then woke up really embarrassed and didn't post for another 6 months. Luckily I had about 50 posts at this point so nobody really noticed. Actually, I'm pretty sure @Lewis did, and it was part of me being assigned to "TEAM SENSITIVE" with Hammer (RIP), but he doesn't count with his terrifying memory.

I've done 1kg of chicken before. I'd fancy my chances against 2kg of steak given favourable conditions. 400g would be so easy.

I got a whole chicken recently when I went out with my mate and their family, and they were all lolling and carrying on like I was Mr Creosote. Half of it is bones you knobs.

Yeah, you don't actually get that much off a whole chicken, but you do get all the amazing bits on the underside that you otherwise can't get. Aldi do 1kg of frozen chicken breasts for £3.50, though, which is usually preferable.

Also, I went to the Afghan joint round the corner to buy their 3ft naan bread and then I was having a look at all the weird stuff and found banana crisps. Bought and bag and they're pretty great. They do shelled pistachios too which I don't recall seeing in any of the big UK supermarkets.

It wasn't difficult but at the end you feel like you've eaten it. It seems to instantly bloat you.

Just made a Jamie’s 5 ingredients thing. Obviously he’s a cunt but this was great.

    Mango chicken.

Chicken, mango chutney, garlic, chilli powder, lime juice. Fried up some onions and peppers and had it with rice.

In fairness though you'd need onions in it and something like rice with it. He's a complete chancer.

It's because he's a complete fake and the vacuous bollocks that comes out of his mouth is laughable.

I find his recipes overly complex for what they are. Nigel Slater is the king of home cooking.

He's the master of taking relatively few ingredients and turning them into something brilliant without needing a great deal (or any) technical skill. Perfect for someone like me who wants to eat proper food but can't be doing with all the faffing on a daily basis.

This week I've made: creamy tagliatelle with smoked salmon and caviar, cheesy gnocchi with broccoli and ham and a beef stroganoff. It's the most I've properly cooked during the week in ages. I'd claim I'm going foodie but I got hammered on Wednesday which meant I just had hungover pizza yesterday.

Today I've discovered there's a specialty mac and cheese restaurant close to me, and that they deliver.

Just had their 'Sloppy Joe', which consists of macaroni and cheese covered with beef bolognese, and it was remarkable. It's hangover food, but high quality, very good hangover food.

Probably my pettiest gripe in life is the modern prevalence in the UK of 'mac and cheese' over the traditional formation of 'macaroni cheese'. It is of course because people hear the former in American shows.

Yeah, that was supposed to be in quotes, because they describe themselves as a 'specialty mac and cheese' place.

Our oven seems to have shit itself (turning the whole thing off and on again seems to have worked) and turned off about halfway into my 3 and a half hour brisket.

I was hoping to eat in about 15 minutes

You'd get irked if everyone over there suddenly started calling Lay's 'crisps' because of Downton Abbey or something. Don't deny it.

I bought an unsmoked gammon for my slow cooker, so what easy thing can I do to make it taste less boring? My friend suggested pouring a bottle of cider in with it, but that sounds idiotic.
