It's like the film version of David Brent in that he seems to have become an actual retard. There are some funny lines in it, but it doesn't really lend itself to satirising something because in the real world nobody would be going along with a weird local rock tour/disastrous, un-edited bacteria films.

    Average overall I'd say.

Much like a lot of Gervais' recent stuff it came across as tired and very unoriginal, while having some amusing bits in it. Having not been on the BBC for years, why would you go back for that? It's not like he's short of a bob or two or that they pay particularly well compared to the other gigs he could get.

I enjoyed it. The content stuff was funnier than the pissing about in the studio stuff though, which was more cringe than funny. I think it would have been better aired as-on-TV.

I think it had a bit of pacing issues and it made it clunky. Finished better than it started.

I liked it. Didn’t like the tweets section, wasn’t funny.
I hope he gets more bitter as it goes on and he ‘settles’ into being back on tv.

I thought it was a mixed bag. Some genuinely very funny moments, but I thought the final interview was probably the worst bit.

Yeah, the segways didn't work very well and were comfortably the worst part.

It's telling that the only good stuff was the The Day Today-esque stuff. The main thrust of the show is pony.

See, I thought the first time he went to Simon with the big touch screen was brilliant. And one of my favourite bits.

It was a good enough start. The highlights were Sidekick Simon messing up the Tweets, somebody shouting "Partridge, you wanker!" at him when he was walking down the street in one of the segments and (particularly) the interview with the "hackitvist". Particularly when he skewered him with "this giraffe is winding it's neck in".

I would have liked a bit more Lynn screen-time. Although, "the slag from the bible" was a very un-Lynn like comment.

Looking at the (very positive) twitter reactions I think it might have had broader appeal than us bunch of old cynics on here would recognise.

See I don't think Sidekick Simon is a particularly good character and while Lynn wasn't bad, it's a one note joke that's been done to death.

Lynn was not the Lynn from previous Partridge. 'Slag' felt very out of place.

The studio bits were generally pretty awful, felt very flat. The hygience segment was fantastic.

Agreed. Especially the end sequence when the tweets about John's dodgy conduct start to come through and he gets the upper hand on the other two presenters. I love it when Alan wins!

The segment with the audience member from Sunderland was gold too.

The whole bit with the posh wanker on was masterful, like a W1A crossover in which Partridge stuffs them on our behalf.

I think the reason this is getting mixed reviews is people go in expecting a laugh-out-loud I'm Alan Partridge kind of romp, when it's actually just a very astutely observed piece of satire.

Again this week there were four or five big laughs but otherwise they just spend too long dwelling on badly manufactured awkwardness. The VTs are amazing though.

    That was fantastic.

Another little moment I found hilarious was when he mentioned Morrissey during the segment on vegetarianism and the accompanying picture that popped up was of Gary Rhodes.

Best episode so far. I thought it was brilliant, up there with the best Partridge.

I actually think every segment was great. The bit with the Scottish guy, the contradicting woman who hates him, the school smacking stuff. I even enjoyed the Sidekick Simon stuff even though it's basically the same joke over and over.

I just thought Sidekick Simon and the guy from Sunderland being hit by his wife were jokes that are good for one line but spun out into five minutes each, not so sure. In this format it kind of needs to be solid gold throughout, which is a big ask but still.

They tap danced around a small hill of potatoes for 20 minutes, and at the end Tim Key strode on in a leprechaun suit and exclaimed 'Legend, in me orrrn loiftoim!'. For anti-Irish campaigners like me it was a thrilling watch.

It's things like these shows that keep that anti-Irish sentiment alive and well over there.
