    The Gig Thread

Don't think we've got one of these so here we go.

On the 21st going to see Ian Siegal and his band on a fucking ancient boat in the city centre #LONDONish for the Dundee Jazz Festival, followed by Micky Moody and Papa George.

Then it's a 5 pub thing on the Sunday starting at 2pm and lasting all day and in to the night. Proper old school jazz and blues.

I've just recently seen Souljazz Orchestra and Quantic. ASAP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa as well, primarily for ASAP Rocky. Also, Public Service Broadcasting have had to postpone loads of their tour, including the date I had tickets for in Liverpool. Pretty devastating. Got to wait until February now.

Bring Me The Horizon in December and then Sum41 () in February next year for their UK tour, which is going to be a wonderful trip down memory lane.

So I forgot to buy the tickets so I'm not going now.

On a side note, has anyone ever seen The Macabees live?

Yeah, they're pretty solid live. Only ever seen them at various festivals but they were decent enough if you like their stuff.

Tickets bought. On Ticketmaster it says no seating plan and it had unreserved so you can do what you want. However now in my ordered tickets it's assigned me a row and seat numbers? I don't want to fucking sit. What the fuck.

Got dragged along to "The Blockheads" tonight. Inverted commas since they've obviously had to replace Ian Dury, and have done so with some disgusting yellow fingered old cunt who probably raised the average number of divorces in the room to about four.

They're really not my cup of tea. I can appreciate the talent of the musicians in the band but it all gets a bit samey after a while, and that mong was an embarrassment.

The Cure are doing a European tour next year, tickets on sale Friday morning if anybody's interested. Girlfriend's a fan so I reckon that'll be the last part of her Christmas presents sorted.

Lucky cunt at your Mrs actually liking an actual band rather than mainstream worthless shit that costs an absolute fortune to see at a boring, characterless corporate venue.

Nearly had to break up a fight last night. Bloke turned up for The Prodigy already drunk, kept spouting lyrics and constantly kept telling Flava Flav to fuck off. First the couple next to me noticed it (which caused the bloke to square up), he moved and, when he came back in he was greeted with a police escort. Quality night, although DJ Lord's 'thing' is terrible. And Prodigy's stage lighting was such that you could not see them.

Still hate people that skip support to just see the main headliners. If you've paid, make the effort to watch the lot. Especially when its Public Enemy.

Hold on to your great, great, great granddaughters.

Not mine, obviously. I got 5 seconds of Firestarter as it was being remixed to shit. The lad on the video mentions the crowd being a bit wank and I'll not disagree. The place wasn't full and Public Enemy got even less attention.

Going to see They Might Be Giants in January. Not a massive fan but they're playing in some tiny social club, which should be a laugh. Can't wait for the Malcolm in the Middle theme tune!!! Actually think I already posted this elsewhere but fuck it.

Sempiternal is easily their best album, their latest one is a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion, definitely more 'pop-y' than ever. I saw them at Reading this year and was converted into a big fan, easily one of the best shows I've seen.

Got tickets for the show in Barcelona. They weren't playing any Scottish venues so I figured for what it'd take to get to Manchester, a flight to Spain really isn't that much more hassle or cost.

I was going to get tickets for the one in Copenhagen but the dates were too close to the holiday we already have planned in France.

To be serious for a moment though, I'm not booking flights/accommodation yet and won't be planning to pay for it all. I'm just confident that she'll want to go enough that she'll pay her share of it. It'll just be a long-ish weekend so if we book RyanAir/EasyJet flights early enough it'll cost piss all.

Just home from Gavin James. High pitched, lone acoustic singers aren't really my thing but he's about the best I've seen.

    Same here.

Possibly one of the overseas ones if flights are dirt cheap (London is about as expensive to travel to from Bristol and to stay in as several of the European gigs).

Went to see a Fleetwood Mac tribute band tonight with my mum, uncle and aunt. Was really good. Some of the people in the crowd even stood up and danced at one point!

They Might Be Giants was last night. They were very good, and being in a tiny working men's club definitely helped the atmosphere. Dorkiest crowd I've ever been part of, but that added to the charm really. Phil Jupitus was there apparently, but I didn't see him sadly.

Seeing it live was pretty special, I must admit.

They did a fucking Destiny's Child cover as well, which was pretty funny even if it was a bit LOLRANDOM.

That'd be Bills, Bills, Bills I take it?

They learned it for the A/V Club's regular Youtube show 'Undercover' - they did a great version of Tubthumping on there too a few years back, pretty much the best episode ever.

Ha, it was indeed. I'm working my way through those AV club videos now, they're pretty good. TMBG are great sports.

I'll be doing a fair few over the next month or so. We Never Learned To Live is the first order of business on Sunday, followed by Bear Trade (supporting Iron Chic), Gnarwolves with Crowes N Wra, Cleft, Future of the Left with St Pierre Snake Invasion and the 2 day Dead Punk Promo special (Gmarwolves again, the dude who used to be in The Movielife, Astpai, Muncie Girls, Jesus and his Judgemental Father).

Yeah. Happy with that. Mostly single figure advance tickets too, which is nice. Just gutted to be missing Shai Hulud tonight (sold out). Also pretty sure I'll miss Mission of Burma due to work. Which is a bit shit given that they're no doubt due to retire again soon.

Bell X1 last night. Look to be really enjoying it again and the new stuff fits in great.

Got the obligatory Prince stuff too, though I suppose 90% of bands playing this weekend were at the same.

Off to see Chris Cornell on Monday, it's an acoustic set so not much chance of Timbaland getting involved this time.
