The story for Austin as a heel was pretty shit (I loved the Power Trip stuff but it made no fucking sense) but it didn't help that the fans just really didn't want to hate him. Same when Hogan came back.
He tried to actually murder the Rock and the fans still made him the face.
It's not so much that wrestlers are best as heels, but that WWE can't do faces. They're all horrible dickheads, like Randy Orton pretending to be friends with Bray Wyatt to burn his shed.
To be fair they rarely know how to do heels either. Jerichos best heel run came about because he was sick of HBK being a cunt by faking injuries and sneak attacking him. Jericho was just so good he pulled it off.
Granted reading that back it's another example of a terrible face, but he was literally a heel because he wouldn't put up with Shawn. Basically like 7om.

Not going to lie, I marked out when she pinned Charlotte for the title. Everything since then has been horse shit though. Stephanie having a go at her and asking her to give the title back to someone who cheated worse than her in every single match and then the nonsensical match at Fast Lane where they ended the streak for no reason instead of just doing a DQ (or better yet, not booking that match at all) and letting us have Charlotte/Bayley in a title Vs streak match. They have fucked her up, I agree, but her getting the belt in the first place (albeit due to Sasha hitting Charlotte in the tits with a crutch) was the only decent face victory moment in a long time.
Lesnar squashing Goldberg, Owens/Jericho, two womens title matches, Andre Battle Royal, tag and cruiserweight matches which may well end up on the pre-show and whatever ends up happening with HHH/Rollins.
Barely anything's been properly built up, some of the stuff they had been building (Charlotte's streak, Strowman, Jax) got binned at sodding Fastlane and a bunch of good people who'll be getting shoe-horned into matches at the last minute, into the Battle Royal or doing nothing.
It promises to be pretty wank.

The one where Hogan rocked up after the main event with a black eye and nicked the title was the worst. The Undertaker fought someone in a suit with muscles drawn on it and I think we also got Crush (the Jinder Mahal of the early 90's) vs Razor Ramon.
Chris Jericho vs Kevi Nowens should be good (although Nowens is obviously winning if Jericho is off), and whatever Seth Rollin[g]s is involved in should be alright, but the rest of it sounds honking. Even more so if we end up with AJ Styles pinning Shane McMahon after he misses a stupid bump, and Don Cena wasting his life flattening the fucking Miz.
Is Cena doing this mixed tag thing? I'm not sure I've fathomed the point of that exactly.
He could turn heel by AA-ing Maryse off the top rope.
He should tag with Mickie James and see if he can ruin two more marraiges.

She was in dispute with them. Failed wellness policy twice last year but claimed it was for medication leading up to neck surgery. Had said surgery in October but they wouldn't let up on her suspension. Was looking very unlikely for her to be back as it was.
I do wonder how the crowds will respond when the new day come out over the next few weeks though.
