Am I too cynical thinking Lawson's strategy was mostly about being in position to nab the fastest lap?

Either way it's made Tsunoda absolutely lose his head.
Somebody give this Colapinto a seat, F1 needs a hard nosed Argie bastard, we don't need Stroll or Perez or any of these mooks.
Tsunoda is a clown. It'll be pretty sad if Colapinto ends up without a drive or in the Sauber.
This battle between Max and Lando has been great.
Verstappen is such a twat.
This is fucking sensational. Both of them dirty as hell, especially Verstappen.
Unfortunately Verstappen has been allowed to use inside line run them off the track tactic for years unchallenged by the stewards.
Norris.
McLaren need to tell Piastri to back it up a bit.
What replay were landos engineers watching? Threw him under the bus.
Lmao.
Genuinely think Leclerc ends up 2nd in the drivers
He clearly wasn't ahead at the apex so they shouldn't have told him that but I still think what Max did shouldn't be legal.
I don't know why Norris hung it out so wide on the entry? He was basically past Verstappen on the straight, should have Schumacher chopped him.
It was a brilliant ten laps though. The best I've seen all year. Shame they all end in squabbling about minutiae of shit rules these days.
Pretty slam dunk penalty for Norris but they never replayed the dodgy move by Verstappen half way down the straight.
The penny needs to drop for Lando like it did for Lewis.
You cannot tiptoe around him, best Belgian mates or not. He will take it from you. You need to do it back when you can.
I mean this is the first time in ages he’s actually struggled to get past him since that crash. He has gone past him with ease every time since
That's because he had a car that could win by 20 seconds then. As shown that won't always be the case.
Lawson not done his chances any harm when it comes to replacing not-so-speedy gonzalez. P3 in Q1, got into a war of words with Nernando Nanonso, got put on some cheating strategy, aced it, scored points and made Tsunoda bin it at turn one having started the weekend by going out and giving him tows in a failed bid to drag him into Q3. 10/10 weekend, give him the drive.
The application of the rules vis a vis Verstappen running people off the road, allied to Abu Dhabi '21, makes you wonder whether the stewards are shit scared of Horner for some reason. It's almost like it used to be in the Max 'n' Bernie era where they would give Ferrari every decision because doing so was deemed good for the spectacle.
You'd think the FIA would be itching to give Verstappen a penalty after his little power play in Singapore. Having said that, you can't help but admire his ability to make a pass on him almost impossible (huge car performance gap notwithstanding).
Anyone else on the grid, Hamilton and Alonso included, would have been taken by Norris.
I think it's more they don't want to piss off the golden boy.
Norris should have just gone round the outside of him off track 5 laps earlier and scampered off.
Which in itself is a pathetic rule/penalty.
Even MotoGP got their shit together better than this with regards to off track excursions and those guys are at risk of serious injury by venturing into non-tarmac territory rather than just a dirty tyre.
Lando really gave him the space in T1. Park it on the inside and the bomb fail.
A lot of the bullshit is down to the rubbish track design, which in turn is down to the rubbish cars, requiring a long straight, endless braking zone and SWITCHBACK double hairpin to have any chance of overtaking. Then everyone tells themselves it's GREAT RACING rather than a load of complete baloney.
Just go back to 2006-08 spec cars in terms of size, weight, etc, but bring with it all the hybrid/electrical stuff, reintroduce refuelling, race on proper tracks, reintroduce jeopardy in terms of grass, gravel, etc. Make them work for their gazillions.
Looking at the list of grand prix winners. leclerc is now up to 8, the same as dani ric and one behind mark webber in terms of winners without titles. The brazilians of massa and rubens got 11 and coulthard is top with 13 for the drivers who raced since 1998.
Stirling Moss still top of that list with 16 wins in 66 races is one of the weirdest sporting stats (DC got his from 246 races).
16 in 66 with no title is nuts.

That's the spirit lad.
God I hope the Ferrari's decent next year, or that the Red Bull is shit, we need a title fight.
It'll probably turn out that Red Bull completely pulled development on this year's car after bossing the opening bit of the season.
I do like how the pendulum has swung on best car often this season. Early Red Bull powerplay with the odd "this track doesn't work for me, brother." Then into some post Spain, Mercedes resurgence and Ferrari showing up with a killer upgrade for a race or two at a time. We might have even got a three way fight on the podium in Texas, had the silver cars not been so keen to inspect the gravel work.
Really do hope Ferrari can get their shit together for next year with that lineup. Not a gambler but I would love to be putting money on a rejuvinated Hamilton.
One has to say that since they punted that ridiculous Italian and replaced him with a shrewd Frenchman, things have been looking up for them, not for the first time in history. Give me 4 quick cars but Max's car half a second down next year so that he has to shred the fuck out of it to reach the front. We all deserve it for putting up with 15 odd dominant walkovers in a row.
If you’re praising a Frenchman then I probably need to wake up for work now.
Everyone has his role in life. Sorting out a bunch of over-emotional Italians as they pursue collective glory is a good role for a squat Frenchman. As for a strutting short arse Italian, well, maybe history tells us that they'd do better in charge at Alpine.
Russell making a habit of finding that barrier with his car. Max has also been having something funny sounding in his engine. They tried to palm it off but hes now out of the session. That could well be a grid penalty coming his way.
Williams are going to be such a likeable/supportable team next year with Sainz and Albon. Hopefully they can keep making progress and then have a good leap to the 2026 rules.
They need to bin Albon off for the Argie who is far more likable. Albon has come across as a twat since he came in (I don’t think he can handle the pressure of a teammate doing as good or better as him)
Colapinto to RB when they sack Perez would make sense.
I do like Colapinto. Seems like he has his head screwed on. Reminds me a bit of Piastri in that respect. And Albon did come across as a prick after his incident y'day, not sure Bearman was in any way at fault...
Yeah, but that's just the way of the modern driver, they are conditioned to instantly and vocally blame anyone and everyone else as soon as they feel something hasn't gone in the absolutely most advantageous way possible for them.
What time is quali? 10pm?
Aye, 10pm. I do cut Albon some slack. When he's on track, he's a reliable pair of hands. I don't think you gain much (if anything) by switching to Colapinto. Well, there's the obvious potential to sell him on but performances might wind up in line with Albons.
I remember Osama Bin Russell obliterating both himself and Bottas at Imola and immediately calling Bottas the dickhead and going over to slap his helmet. Its never their fault.
Williams are probably kicking themselves a little. Fandango Cappuccino has looked it since he came in. He's deserving of a seat next year and as far as I can see, it's either Sauber or the hope of a Red Bull shuffle and to fit in somewhere. Biggest problem with the latter is I dont think you get him back if he goes there.
I see they're testing Yuki in the big boy car again at the end of the year. More and more signs that Perez is being punted. FWIW I reckon you see Perez retire, Yuki moves up and they bring in Cappuccino along side Lawson at Cash App.
