England want their best squad available, and he is part of the best squad. It's on him to go or not go.

Yeah, if the squad is being picked by an AI, but you'd hope human beings would have an ounce of consideration for the players. You are basically an AI so I don't expect you'd understand.
Southgate wasn't to know that though was he? Sterling became undropable, which kind of impacted on Rashford's opportunities.
21 starts in 46 caps.
Nah I don't buy that, he 100% had his favourite line-up going in, hence the fact Grealish couldn't get a start despite clearly being one of our best players.
In hindsight, regardless of game time, he would have potentially sat out being part of the first England squad to make a major final in 55 years? Yeah. I'm not buying that. Why does there have to be some big, emotional missive behind everything now. Lewis is bang on with this. "I am injured" will fucking suffice.
Be that as it may, the guy who got the nod over Rashford, who has perennially been picked ahead of him, was one of England's best performers. Maybe if he doesn't shin that one in against Croatia then Rashford comes on and he gets to be the hero. His other positional option was what, Harry Kane's? Good luck with that.
I don't see how Southgate could have been more honest than telling him he wasn't going to be starting the first game. If that was enough for him to cry off and withdraw then fair enough. I guess his media handlers probably thought there was more mileage in the alternative option. They probably focus grouped that penalty for maximum personal gain.
I for one am SHOCKED that Ange Postecoglou's Celtic reign has got off to a cataclysmic and probably unrecoverable start.
Good to see the fans backing Ange while calling out the board.
Definitely Rashfords fault and nobody else’s. He didn’t need the statement only for he needs the charity brand.
Rashford knows he's second choice behind Kane and then cover for the wide players. No way does he turn that oppurtunity down to get surgery a month earlier. Unfortunate for him that he ended up getting very little game time but a Kane injury and suddenly he's the key man.
