Why do I always forget how boring Atletico are? I mean, Chelsea are dull, but at least they try things from time to time.

How has Luis Suarez only joined Atletico this season? They’re a match made in heaven.

It's tidy footbll and effective af. As a CQ-era Iran fan, I know full well this is far more gripping as a fan than some Tuchel-wankfest.

I don't see how that's deliberate by Hermoso but it's a brilliant finish.

The referee's whistle ruins the magic of what was a great goal. It doesn't matter that VAR gave us the correct decision.

Replay has stolen a lot more than it’s given in that respect. In more than soccer too.

I didn't watch tonight but I think he's great. Seems to genuinely enjoy every game, with an almost childlike wonder and enthusiasm for football. And he's about the only 'name' commentator who's good tactically.

That referee was a mess. Gave fouls for everything and bookings for nothing until Vitolo takes a chunk of skin out of Reece James’ knee. Probably would have got a red if he rolled around instead of not reacting

He gave them everything after the goal.

Wasn't enough though, was it. Fuck you Suarez, fuck you Simeone.

    AKA "Atleti's" dream referee.

They're such a shithouse team, it's going to be funny watching their season crash and burn from here on in. Well, it would be if I had any interest whatsoever, and the potential beneficiaries weren't even more hateful.

There was me thinking Bayern were flying again. Lazio defended like a Sunday league side. City really should be walking this.

What's City's non-fuck-up-able route to the final? They can't play Liverpool in every round.

    He's just a Nando's Laporte.

God forbid the cunts were to even get to a final. Hopefully Bayern will deal with them if they were to actually not bottle it beforehand.

Someone has to explain to me how Chelsea have managed to portray themselves as this low resource underdog the last few years. I just saw last nights game described as 'a miracle win'. I don't think there's a single player in the Atletico Madrid that would cost more than their counterpart outside of Oblak.

People bang on about the transfer ban that lasted 6 months and also signed two 50m+ players during. Like what spinzone did they pull on the world?

We were running at a profit for several years until this last year. Even then the Hazard fee was huge enough to offset a fair amount of it.

I guess we don't tend to buy ready made megastars in the way that some of the superclubs like to. Also we have Edouard Mendy in goal. Edouard Mendy.

Not sure how having the 5th most expensive goalkeeper in premier league history starting ahead of the most expensive goalkeeper in the world makes you an underdog.

Lampard in charge for 18 months and Mason Mount still starting. Tuchel's achievements in overcoming those factors can't be understated.

Barcelona have been buying shit for years but everyone still makes fun of them for losing. Like Arsenal lose and it reverberates all week whereas Chelsea lose and it doesn't and I'm not sure why. Arsenal have had a far lower ceiling for a decade but the expectations are higher somehow. I'm talking about media not fans btw.

Well Barcelona mince around calling themselves 'more than a club' which kind of rules them out of underdog status.

Arsenal have a bigger fanbase/more media attached to them which is why there's more noise when their tree falls, and boy does it fall. I always say this but English football is fundamentally about Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd, the rest are just walk-ons.

Yeah but that's why I think the Atletico Madrid comparison is perfect and don't understand the underdog thing. Chelsea spend more, have won more, won more recently. How are they the underdog?

Against Atletico Madrid? Because they're top of their league and perceived (perhaps inaccurately) to be a better team than us at the moment.

Once again, this all came up because I saw the match described as a 'miracle win' that's non leaguer beating United in the FA Cup 3rd round stuff.

It's not a miracle win. Chelsea were bookmakers' favourites, as someone posted in the betting thread yesterday.

Us beating Barcelona in 2012 was a miracle win.

Glad it's taken multiple posts to conclude that you agree with me so can we now move onto the question of how they spinzoned this underdog thing over the last few years.

You’re one of the few teams who made a profit last year too. You’ll get a few more big players on huge fees in the summer as barely anyone will compete. Haaland will be one.

Atalanta Madrid is surprisingly enjoyable to watch, no fucking about, just 45 minutes of attack vs defense. Will be heroic if Atalanta come out with the draw.

This is from the point of contact:

It's harsh, but at the same time, if he doesn't get fouled there he's having a shot from at least the edge of the box so it's understandable.
