    Mattresses

In an attempt to one up the most boring thread ever seen here (Hoovers) I am seeking advice on mattresses. When we moved in we got a new (still wrapped) double bed and mattress given to us from someone who had one they never needed. We have been using it for 2 years now on the principle of 'we will buy a new bed and mattress when we have the cash' but enough is enough, it's shite and I need sleep.

Going to stick a super king bed on the credit card and need the mattress to go with it, but it seems there are a million dedicated providers these days.

    What does TTH sleep on?

I thought this said Malteasers at first glance and now I'm disappointed. Hungry and disappointed.

Your disappointment is trumped by my fatigue. I typed my work login into the laptop as 'Christmas' earlier.

We got a new one about a year ago (can’t remember the name), it was expensive but well worth it. I’ve just done 10 days on the old mattress in the spare room and I never realised how bad it was (came with the rented house so you can imagine how cheap), I was absolutely broke up every morning. I don’t know how I did 4 years on it and am still able to walk.

Edit - that one Vogue - Available in Double, King Size, and Super King – Mattress Mick's

One thing ive learned is, it is worth spending the money on a premium mattress. If it feels amazing, empty out your bank account.

I’ve got a Simba one, and one of their pillows, and would recommend it wholeheartedly.

I've looked at Simba and Emma, that one Giggles posted looks good. I initially wanted to go all out on a giant bed but getting a mattress size above superking is ridiculously expensive, talking thousands.

Just don't go down the soft route. As a wise yogi once told me, a mattress shoild be a reflection of your desired erection.

As a result, I've not had trouble with my Next one but I did take note of the design of one from a Hyatt hotel in Macau which will be my next purchase.

Please do not speak of hotel mattresses at this difficult time.

    Tempur > all

You spend so much time there it's worth shelling out, as Sincere says.

We have a John Lewis mattress with a latex foam topper (I'll find the exact one later). It's excellent but wasn't cheap.

I properly went down the rabbit hole with mattresses when we got one and it's one of the most impenetrable industries around. Apparently the Simba/Casper/etc. ones are all the same and whilst they are decent to sleep on the build quality is not meant to be great.

    Good luck

Does it being latex stop the piss from seeping through?

They are good mattresses but some people hate them.

The number one piece of advice as far as I could find was to just lie on mattresses and go with what you actually find comfortable.

But then we lie on the topper which we bought online having never touched IRL and it's brilliant, so there you go.

The lay down test is key, but I can't imagine anyone being able to conduct one in the near future.

We have a memory foam mattress with springs or something below. Bought it from Dreams so long ago I cannie remember the spec.

Question: How long is it acceptable to keep using a mattress before buying new one? I'm into my 12th year.

A quick google says 6-8 years but that sounds like a con. I'll keep mine going til the wear and tear kicks in. Memory foam can go for 15+ so you're probably fine.

Rotate the mattress as well for another 15 years.

Dont fuck about and just get a tempur. Big outlay, but with mattresses you need to think of it as a price per night over the lifespan. A tempur probs works out about 70p p/n over an 8 year period.

I've had a Tempur for a year, and it's difficult to imagine going back. I slept on the spare bed for two nights when we were decorating, and I could hardly walk the next morning.
