Any of you fine lads want to do me a favor?

I want to watch the Tour de France in Eurosport. It used to be that I could sign up just fine using a VPN, but now they are not accepting my American credit card / paypal. Would any of you be willing to pay using your Paypal or CC and I will send you the money via Paypal?

Can you not use a VPN to get the UK ITV4 coverage? I think that free online. May need to go via ITVx though.

Yeah ITV4 is dogshit. Rather pay for Eurosport or be stuck to the illegal streams.

ITV4 will have ads on both the main live feed of each stage and also in the hour long highlight show in the evening.

    I would help you but:

    1) All cyclists are bastards and they shouldn't be encouraged.

    2) You criticised ITV4, and by association ITVX, which has every episode of Goodnight Sweetheart on it apart from the ropey Comic Relief special and I'm not having it, MATE.

Perhaps we can make this the tour thread.

lol at there being more action in about 3 miles of bike road racing on a motor circuit than you see in the average F1 GP.

The wait for 35 goes on. Maybe in Bordeaux? Or might have to wait until stage 18 and hope all of the other sprinters have died in the mountains.

I think that Cavendish will have to get very lucky to get a win. There are 4-5 sprinters out there that are faster than him.

I went three pages looking for the old one before giving up so I say yes.

I was going to see what people thought Cavendishs chances were. He's been there or thereabouts on both days but in a straight race I can't see him doing it, I think he'll need some circumstances or lots of abandons but that assumes he's still up to trundling through the mountains himself. I also get the impression that neither the French nor the Belgians want him to break the record so I can't see anyone soft pedalling a day to get him over the line.

It's a no from me Geoff.

I think you'd need to go back several boards to find a tour thread.

It's going to need to be an opportunistic win and that is more likely if he can get himself into the final week. Pretty long shot, but I'd have said the same about his chances of getting a stage at the Giro.

Or, you know, up the Colombier on Bastille Day if he can sneak a little motor into his bike without the commissaires noticing...

He'll win on the final stage as he's motivated by a wild pack of protesters.

Was thinking back 20 years to when the Island Games were in Guernsey in 2003 [they are here again this year] and the Isle of Man team contained a young Mark Cavendish. I recall seeing some of the cycling, although don't recall him specifically.

They obviously bossed the cycling, although he wasn't necessarily the star man. Probably had the best pro career of their three gold medalists though.

Final climb and descent could be interesting today, guess everyone will want to be shedding Wout if at all possible.

Some good climbers in that break, so I think Van Aert gets dropped.

Hopefully the gap stays large and Hindley gets the yellow jersey.

Not sure if this is good or bad. Hindley in the mix is good, but Vingegaard looked a lot better than Pogacar. I think that Vingegaard might cruise this one.

How did anyone let that break go? Madness.

Cavendish came close, but Philipsen's train is just dominating everyone else.

I have to say that I would prefer if Merckx keeps the record.

    Keeps a share.

Cav would have had that if whoever Philipsen cut in front of had been more assertive and held his own line. Almost a perfect bit of opportunism, just doesn't have the power to out drag Philipsen.

Tough watch that interview with Cavendish, could see how gutted he was to have had his gears fuck him over in the final run in.

I think that it was Girmay. Cavendish went too early, but didn't really have a choice, since he ended in the wind. Still an excellent effort that makes me increase my belief in him having a chance later on.

    Abandon.

It's probably myopia, but it feels like British riders have been very unlucky with abandons over the years. Thomas numerous times, Froome crashed out in between winning years, did Wiggins have any killer abandons? Cav's probably had a few himself.

    Which one? Hindley? Ewan? Yates?

Sucks for Cavendish. Such an unlucky way to abandon. You can tell he was gutted.

Jai Hindley. I saw his old man doing an interview in his best Australian clothes, and his accent sounds like he left here due to difficult family connections.

Needed that stage today to lift the spirits after yesterday.

Would have been a Joaquim Rodriguez special if he was in his pomp.

For sure. Or Valverde. I think the only similar rider around now is Alaphilippe, back when he was good.

Also, those time gaps at the top of the board are mental.

Pogacar is going to have to do a Frome Giro type ride (or Landis TdF ride ) tomorrow.

    That TT performance was something.

The bike change didn't even seem worth it. Maybe on a much, much longer climb.

Not sure there's much mileage in TdF betting. Maybe Philipsen to win the final stage [but I would imagine the odds on that will be short]. Everything else is settled.

Last 2 days with the breakaway winning have been great, particularly yesterday with Philipsen's demonstrative seething in the chase.
