September football: It never ends, does it?

If there's a worse version of this footballing summer than "the old season ending with a load of boring games in empty stadia and moves straight onto the next season but without the international tournament" then I'm not sure what it is.

But whatever, football is trudging on regardless and so must the threads.

Still, for those of you with sufficiently empty lives that this is the best turn of events there is even football on this very day for you, with Maine Road's FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round (?) match against Squires Gate being shown on the BBC red button at 7.45 tonight, for some reason or another.

Then comes the Nations League, which is admittedly better than international friendlies and features such box office clashes as Scotland against Israel, Iceland vs. England and Lithuania vs. Kazakhstan.

Then of course the Carabao Cup starts up again the Premier League which feels like it's barely finished grinds into motion once more and fucking hell does anybody actually need more football at this point?

EDIT: The poll title was supposed to end "forever." it's fitting that my poll title was in fact cut short prematurely when it seems football itself is going to go on uninterrupted for centuries.

Messi coming to the Premier League might pull me back in but other than that I struggle to care at all.

Each more climactic than the last.

I am quite looking forward to seeing if Frank Lampard OBE can get all these fancy players together into something that resembles a decent side. The rest of it is just wallpaper for those dreary winter weekends, as football always is.

Hopefully fans get back into the stadiums in decent numbers before long. An entire season, or at least a big portion of it, behind closed doors promises to be the worst on record.

    - As Jimmy said, I'm sat here with a hoodie on, the summer is over and it's either this or an opioid addiction so fuck off belittling it. The prospect of a fresh league still gets me hard and we're like a month tops off everyone realising COVID is a scam so crowds will be back too.

    - Very jealous of Nations League replacing your shit friendlies. Iranian federation is a corrupt incompetent mess so we don't even get the shit friendlies but to have regular competitive games against (largely) quality opposition is something I'd give limbs for. Look at the Jews worming their way into the action

    - That kickabout on BBC today sounds quite fun actually. If I hadn't returned to work today I'd have been tempted to kill a couple of my leisure hours with it.

It is annoying how they keep having actual playing seasons and interrupting the proper entertainment of the transfer windows.

I think we kind of need them as some kind of punctuation mark between the seasons, although no one else seems to think so.

Must be reassuring as a Leeds fan seeing your new transfer record striker going through one on one with the goal (not goalkeeper) and not managing to finish there. Is he going to be full Soldado?

But imagine telling Leeds fans that they’d have Spain’s starting striker playing for them a few years back.

We lost to Wales in a game we maybe should’ve won. Missed an empty goal from a yard out and conceded after a defensive mistake, but If you’d ask a Wales fan they’d probably say they deserved it. Quite uneventful and both teams far from their best and missing quite a few players.

Team Giggles away on Sunday, but not expecting much there as we tend to not do very well against slightly better teams away.

Might need to revise my view of Werner because the cunt looks sharp. I wouldn't mind all that much as Chelsea will still be shit but fuck sake it's all kinds of headaches for fantasy.

Edit: Nah, there's no way I'm getting him in over Dings. Mon the Nazi running to his bunker after a few challenges from prem CBs.

I have zero idea where that stat came from either but did pick up this article:

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has already revealed that one of his players is asthmatic but, according to Dr Dickinson, it is likely that between “25 and 30 per cent” of all players in the league have exercise-induced asthma they are unaware of.

Dr Dickinson led a team which conducted a two-year study, concluded in 2017, which tested players from two Premier League clubs, one in the Champions League and the other mid-table, and clubs from the Championship and League One. It revealed that 28 per cent of the players had the condition.

    PFA Award nominees out then.

I sort of assumed they'd sacked that off and given De Bruyne whatever it is he won to stop City moaning.

Van Dijk or Alexander-Arnold should probably win it but they won't.

How does that work? Isn't it c.£70m (up to c.£90m) that's generally being reported?

Chelsea could probably do with Maguire a lot more than they need Havertz anyway. Maguire's, if not underrated, over-criticized for his short-comings. Just don't ask him to hold a high-line and he's a top class, old fashioned centre-half.

He was playing as a ‘false 9’ at parts of last season but mainly a midfielder. They’ve finally bought a lefty to play through the middle for the first time in about 40 years so he’s worth the 60 million for that alone

Matt le Tissier having a normal one, seemingly comparing people who choose not to wear masks to the people who tried to save Anne Frank from the Nazis.

It's fine though, he's removed it because it was "taken out of context."

We might have needed a new word for it five years ago, but 'in the hole' and/or 'enjoying a free role' are more than sufficient in Brexit Britain. Better still we should re-purpose other indigenous sporting terminology. No more 'quarterbacks' and 'Makelele Role' and 'trequartista [mate]'. Your man here is a scrum-half (stand-off in Red Wall fixtures, where the scrum-half is the deep-lying playmaker, like the fly-half). Add your own cricket bollocks for defensive positions.

Alright, he's an inside half. My dad (65) hasn't moved on from the old W-M position names, or First-Fourth Divisions being the professional leagues. He just carries on like it never changed.
