Isn't it Regulion who wants the chance to go back to Real (I have no idea) rather than it being at the insistence of the club? I thought (read) that's why he preferred to go on loan somewhere.

Are there many examples of buyback clauses actually being worthwhile?

Morata. Real took him back for €30m and then managed to fleece Chelsea for £60m a year later

They also sold Dani Carvajal a year after they sold him to Leverkusen. Maybe it's just a Madrid thing.

I don't care if there's a buyback clause on this guy, the clause is 15m than what we're paying for him so if we can get a couple of seasons with a properly good left back and then make a little money afterwards then who cares

By all accounts the lad wants to stay at Madrid. This may be a case of famous last words, but if he has the ability then getting him playing for a move back to Madrid is a recipe for some quality performances.

Buyback's just feel like an evolution of the loan system (isn't that being clamped down on?) for further FFP fudging. I'm curious as to how they work - does the player basically have to agree to a return contract before moving so he can be compelled to return even in the (admittedly unlikely) event that they don't want to?

Presumably the player isn't compelled to leave, it's just that the club can't turn down the bid if it comes in?

Unless, as you suggest, they've already signed a return agreement but why the fuck would you do that when you don't know how high your stock might have risen?

It seems to be something Barcelona and Real Madrid are heavily into, i.e. we have a completely scattergun recruitment strategy so want some form of insurance policy in case we fuck it up yet again.

On a similiar topic, there are some very suspicious fees being passed around for players and I believe it may be almost solely down to these loans with an obligation to purchase deals. It's not just bent clubs either, some smart well-run clubs in amongst it. Very fishy.

    Morata £59.2m
    Suso £21.7m
    Carrasco £20m
    Verdi £18m
    Inglese £16.2m
    Helder Costa £16m
    Knockaert £15m
    Veretout £14.4m
    Pablo Mari £14m

The Costa deal was based on Leeds getting promoted. Those type of fees are small change.

Player doesn’t have to agree to the buyback, only the club has to accept the offer. And they would be paying us more than we’re paying them. Seems like a fair enough market transaction

Martinez has moved to Villa for 16m£ and from what ive seen from Martinez. He is super nice. Arsenal sound like they really need the coins.

Villa seems to have a goalkeeper curse. They have swapped and changed them every year for the past 10

For some reason over the last month or so I've had the feeling that everything Levy's doing is geared towards the documentary being good TV, rather than footballing or any other kind of success.

It certainly explains why he would appoint Mourinho.

I think Daniel Levy is a complete loser and he knows it. He appointed Mourinho because it makes him feel like he's a big player now.

It's basically breast implants but for a football club.

Well he’s failing bad because it’s boring shite.

Whoever thought the Spurs players were gonna make entertaining television needs sacking from Amazon.

Unless Real bite the bullet and just pay up whatever Bale has left on his contract I don't see how he leaves them, particularly not to go to Spurs. Even half his wages blow everything they pay everyone else out of the water, and Real want some sort of fee too? All sounds a load of entirely made-up paper crap to me.

    He loves Spurs?

    Please.

Madrid say they'll help with wages, but yeah I really don't know how we'd afford him. He'll more than likely be our backup striker too after he inevitably tanks on the wing

Lol at phonics' never ending bitterness towards the club though

An Arsenal fan not liking Tottenham isn't being bitter. You should wear it as a badge of honor that Spurs are good enough these days to have their existence acknowledged.

Not every transfer that is worked on or close to happening will actually happen. It was pretty obvious he'd go to Liverpool if they paid up, just didn't look like they were going to.

Chelsea will end up signing Sancho ahead of them too next year when they sell Hudson Odoi to Bayern for £35m.

Spurs have a have a good team if they start playing Ndombele and get a decent centre half. Mourinho will have thrown the Everton game to get signings in

How is Edwoodwood still employed by Manchester United? Sancho, Reguillon, Thiago affairs all a shambles. Even the Maguire deal, which got done, was lolworthy.

Because the Glazers only care about taking money out of the club and Woodward makes them a lot of money.

Hassenhuttl refused to rule out Ings leaving.

Only explanation is some money troubles behind the scenes. To lose Ings and Hojberg in the same summer would be catastrophic.

Maguire was just another example of the archetypal Woodward transfer negotiation.

If we get Sancho this summer you can guarantee it'll just be Woodward finally agreeing to pay what they've asked for all along. The master negotiation, shrewdly haggling the opposing executive so they agree what they asked for five months prior.

United can't win really on their high-profile transfers. If they pay up straight away then lol, if they attempt to get it down and end up paying then lol, and if they pay less but it takes ages... It says more about their choice of targets then their negotiating, since I seem to remember them working Juventus down from their initial Paulp Ogba valuation (for example).

    Woodward beating inflation.

Thought this article on Spurs'/Mourinho's possible plan was quite good: https://www.skysports.com/football/n...tenhams-system

That's how they're booked in the accounts, although not necessarily how they are paid.

£5m a season and some chump change when things are won seems a decent enough deal.

Someone find Taz for me. The man's going to explode.

Liverpool have enquired about Ismail Sarr from Watford. £35m is apparently the fee or in the region of. He'd be seen as the rotation option with the front 3. Brewster and Origi likely to leave.

The reason the Thiago deal is now going ahead is because Klopp sees Fabinho as 4th choice CB so he's allowing another midfielder to come in.

I appreciate Fabinho is probably a bit more 'defendery' than Fernandinho (at the very least he is taller), but having just seen what scuppered City's season last year it does seem an odd risk to take, particularly considering he's hardly bullet-proof himself.

Brewster [shame Bournemouth got releagted] and Origi to fund a move for Sarr would be excellent.

Niko shut the fuck up and bask in the glory of keeping Gini whilst also securing our success for the next 10 years and thereafter through Ismaila.

You remember how Barca and Real secured every top Spanish speaking talent through being their dream club? We'll be like that except it'll be every absolute sub 11 second monster with a 23 inch third leg born between the years 2012 and 2052.
