    Controversial opinions that you have

State a controversial opinion that you have.

    I'll start.

The Harry Potter films are better than the Lord of the Rings films.

Coffee is disgusting and people force themselves to like it as teenagers/young adults because they think it's grown up.

Given some of our members this could get a bit sketchy.

Would it be controversial if I said they're both rubbish? I firmly believe that.

I hate coffee as well, just never got on with it. Beer is lovely though, the most refreshing drink there is.

I agree, but did you like it the first time you drank it? I sure as shit didn't.

Star Wars was good first time round, but everything else since is mostly wank. Bond has had its moments but is absolutely overrated. Craig has made two good films and two bad ones, the Dalton efforts were the best and everything else (with the possible exception of Goldeneye, but then I can't separate my feelings towards it from the amazing N64 game) is a sea of Sunday afternoon passing the time fun at best.

    You've nailed super hero stuff.

Goldeneye the film is brilliant, Goldeneye the game is massively overrated.

Spikey's opinions on these sorts of things are a bit lol but then he can't even remember his own stance of stuff so there's the pinch of salt you can take them all with.

At least some of this is that almost everybody starts out with the scabbiest lager going but yeah, you definitely start out just enduring it.

That would be controversial I guess. I liked the first Lord of the Rings film but found the last two boring. My wife is massively into Harry Potter so I invariably find myself watching the films every so often and find them quite entertaining.

My controversial opinion is that most people who wheel this argument out are just insecure about being grown ups who still drink energy drinks. Also a big overlap, from experience, between coffee haters and just generally being fussy eaters.

One man's "forcing yourself to like it" is another man's training your taste buds. I thought mushrooms were rank when I first ate them but I learned to appreciate them, which is preferable to being like my mate who lives off chicken nuggets cus his parents were too easy on him.

You're right about Star Wars and superheroes but 100% wrong about James Bond (but as a James Bond obsessive I would say that).

I eat and drink almost everything, but the following are off the menu and I won't even have most of them in the house:

    - Ketchup
    - Any brand of cola drink
    - Avocado
    - Chicken wings

My favourite shock jock opinion is that we were on the wrong side in WW1 and should have teamed up with the Germans to do away with France.

I'm not sure if this is controversial or not but I certainly feel like it's one that has marked me out in the minority a few times in my life - Fancy dress parties are for children. Adults should not be organising or attending them.

On the WW1 bit, that would make a good alternate reality series. How does that world look? Presumably there's no Hitler, no WW2, or atleast a very different one.

Black pudding is disgusting. Not because of its content, but because of its horrible taste and texture.

Were you spoilt by being rich enough to own a PC at the time and be balls deep in Doom and Quake as a result?

No, I didn't have a half-decent gaming PC until the mid-2000s, I was a console boy before then.

We were still just about top dogs at the time, but were far too insecure about holding onto India and the rise of German nationalism in general (for 100 years we'd been obsessed with the 'balance of power' but this era was expiring fast). If we'd been more long-sighted and worried less about keeping our empire in the next 50 years, we could have a) destroyed France (always a worthy ambition) and b) avoided most of the worst 20th century atrocities. A British-German superteam would have kicked communism into the long grass, too.

I'm sure other atrocities would have replaced them, but if it takes Michel Roux Jr off our screens then it's probably worth it.

I used to agree with you but I stayed at this particularly excellent B&B in Whitby a bit ago and the black pudding was absolutely fantastic.

Probably six million more of them around in my timeline. German fascism happens because of Versailles. There's a reason the winning teams from WW1 never got it.

Licence To Kill is possibly my favourite Bond film and ITV showed it on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks back and it was cut so much it almost made it unwatchable.

I don't think euthanasia is particularly controversial these days (outside of religious mongs) and it will be legal at some point.

Aren't there a load of non-religious types who bang on about 'inheritance driven murder'? Which I should imagine absolutely will happen to a degree, but that collateral damage will be so worth it to stop the suffering for everyone else.

I think they're largely the same people just grasping for reasons that aren't "my book says no".

Can we stick to controversial amongst the TTH crowd, not general public? I reckon everyone except for Igor hates fancy dress, and assisted suicide, while not the most fun way to kill yourself, is probably accepted by most people on here.

Nando's is KFC for paedophiles and I will not be challenged on the clear lack of correlation in that statement.
