Just found out my pals younger brother caught it whilst attempting to escape Paris when they were going lockdown.

Realised he had as soon as he landed and isolated.. apparently hot and sweaty unable to get out of bed without feeling you’re going to faint and just couldn’t stop coughing.

Sounds miserable but he’s past it after a couple of days.

The whole mass exit strategy doesn’t work if you’ve lost the initial battle... if London is going under then you need to lock them in there. And good luck with that.

A woman at my girlfriend's work has it. The last time she has interacted with her was Thursday last week, and we have now been asked to isolate for another week.

Should have hoarded more, I guess.

Dunno. Not short where we are as far as we know but we don’t have many cases. Not that we know how many we need locally anyway. When I asked last week about what regional modelling we had I just got blank looks.

Newsnight has some footage of people in the pub coming up I believe. It's going to make me angry.

I'd rather not even see it. RL's picture from Norwich riled me up already.

Would many Londoners leave London unless it was to ski or something? They can’t go anywhere that they’re not let in. Like I can’t see too many visiting Norwich or Birmingham.

So many people in London are originally from elsewhere in the country. They'll all leave to go back to their parents' houses. The place empties at Christmas.

Is anywhere else in the world flouting the lockdown requests in the way our population are?

London will also have loads of immigrant [descended] families living three generations to a house like the Italians. They're in for a battering.

    The video in this:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-51982495

"It's really messing up with my spring break"

"There's more serious things out there like hunger and poverty and we need to address that"

Having moralised about how shit and selfish everyone else is, Generation Z and the younger Millennials really are outing themselves as a complete hypocritical shower of shit, only interested in changing the world if it involves nothing more inconvenient to them than an instagram post.

With our approach and population density we really could be leading the world on this in the not too distant future. The West Midlands are absolutely riddled with it too by all accounts.

Thinking about the long term implications of this makes me so moist. Please be the death of the experience economy. Please be the superboost to remote working and flexibility. Please be the end of the drinks after work culture. Please be the end of the fetishisation of 'travel'. Churn out the statistics on variations in the state of the environment, alcohol-related hospital admissions, wellness and happiness indicators, divorce rates...it's a fascinating dystopian human experiment. Either that or we'll be back to normal in 6 months.

variations in the state of the environment - nothing will change
alcohol-related hospital admissions - everyone in hospital will be dead or dying of coronavirus
wellness and happiness indicators - probably not great [see above]
divorce rates - probably through the roof if the fog ever lifts

RTA deaths will probably crater though, on the bright side (c.300,000 this year apparently)

Suicides (c.235,000 thus far in 2020) may increase though.

Good old worldometer, where would I be without it's nonsensical yet relentless tickings in times like these?

I'm not a scientist, I'm not even Yevrah, but I think it will get very bad for a while and I am a bit frightened.

That said, I think other countries/locations within countries will have it worse than us.

It's going to run fucking crazy through somewhere like India, they're totally unprepared to handle something on this scale.

Surely the impact of this shutdown on the environment will be significant and noticeable. I'm waiting for reports of dodo sightings and shit and a ray of hope.

Alcohol related hospital admissions are a big number (?idk), if that's largely made up of punch-ips and peer-pressured drinking then that could plummet. Equally us all becoming house-bound alcoholics is a serious possibility too so could go the other way. Our relationship with the drug (as well as all others, stocking up on psychedelics could have been fun for this) will change.

I imagine divorce rates will shoot up. But so may the value we place on family and the household environment.

RTA death reduction, suicide rate, mental health statistics

I ain't got a clue, I'm just here to provide the 5am kitchen chat.

The longer we're indoors the more noticeable the environmental impacts will be.

Apparently you can already now see fish in the canals in Venice. Logical extension is that animals etc. will start coming back into urban areas. Good luck with that one Florida.

My other prediction for this is that when there is a US election, and assuming D.Trump is one of the candidates, the Democrat will win all 50 states and do so with immense comfort.

All available evidence would suggest the US are totally fucked, perhaps even more so than us (but perhaps not as I still struggle to visualise us being fucked even though I'm certain we are), so I'd agree entirely.

This has the capacity to comfortably topple them from their footing as #1 super power. If China have got it under control, I can't see how it won't.

Surely if there's one thing this pandemic has taught us is that (far too many) people don't give a shit about anything until it's on their doorstep, removing the oxygen from their lungs.

We'll never do anything to stop global warming before it's too late, unless there's a way to do so without it being a huge inconvenience.

I'm just out here hypothesising man, don't come at me with that negative energy unless it's got evidence to back it up. Until I can be arsed to look into it in more detail, I'll shed a tear for every airline that goes under like I did for Lehman Brothers.

I'm still balls deep into debauchery (with a love-hate relationship depending on how severe the damage) but remote working and flexibility should look to slowly kill it off, even if the Kombucha drinking melts of gen-z/Alpha/whatever-the-fuck would have got there anyway.

I would guess the narrative of this is going to move from Italy to Spain to us to wherever and when it properly hits America (May/June?) is when we'll start seeing the end of days stuff.

It'll then slowly, slowly clear in Europe and anywhere with a good public health system (not the US) and pop up to ravage different places in the subsequent few years.

We won't be back to globalised 'normal' for some time. Locally, I'm a bit more hopeful, but everywhere will have a dark month or three.

I bite my nails and I barely get ill as a result, so the Indians and Africans must have all sorts of HERD IMMUNITY the shit conditions they live in.

Apparently you can already now see fish in the canals in Venice. Logical extension is that animals etc. will start coming back into urban areas. Good luck with that one Florida.
It's a different, quieter part of the canals.

At the same time, there are a lot less 85-year old nonnas in Zimbabwe.
