There's waste absolutely everywhere. It's not a bad thing, it's called preparedness. I can't think of a more wasteful part than the MoD. Or should we just cut their budget because we can't even stop Russia starting a war in Europe.

I'm not complaining about the storage costs. I'm saying people now moaning about them (and that we ended up buying too much) are the same people who were moaning that we didn't have a massive stockpile, which we didn't have largely because of these sort of costs which people would have moaned about.

Are they the same people or have you just conflated them to give you an easy imaginary person to get angry about?

edit: my bad I misread the question. Rayners a knob.

A new wave of COVID is “kicking off” in England, an expert has warned.

Kit Yates, a Mathematical Biologist at the University of Bath, advised people to use existing infection control techniques due to rising cases.

“There is another wave of covid kicking off," he tweeted.

“The good news is that the same things that previously worked will work against new variants.

“Wear a mask in indoor spaces. Meet outdoors rather than indoors if you can.

    “Ventilate indoor spaces. Test. Vaccinate.”

There have been a few cases around me over the last couple of weeks. I'm more worried about the gaypox.

Everybody I know had a cold before Christmas, and the two people stupid enough to test both tested positive, so we can't be worse than then.

It'll keep cycling around. Which makes he laugh at John Campbell's insistence the warmer weather would kill this off.

I was hoping for it earlier this week as I’ve two things I don’t want to go to at the weekend, plus work is riddled with it. Clean so far though.

The Mrs has just sent me this as it turns out this weather makes it not a great time to be a Shih Tzu, and it clearly hasn't been updated for a while because it contains this peach:

"At the moment, social distancing rules mean you might not be able to top up their water at a public tap when out and about, so take plenty of fresh water out with you."

    What times we lived through.

I like to think I was in the vanguard of brave men (and it was all men) who were calling them out as preposterous at the time, but I don't know really.

Me neither, officially. I reckon I might have had an asymptomatic case or something. No way I’ve escaped it all this time being coughed on in the hospital 4 days a week.

Finally got it this week, was sat next to my boss at some stupid away day last Thursday and he had it so it's not hard to work it out. I do feel pretty shit but no more so than a flu, though the heat isn't exactly helping with the fever.

Is it all that different to the cold at this point?

I still haven't provably had it which I find hard to fathom. Pretty sure I've been ferrying around a kid with it all week (his mum has it and he had 1 positive 1 negative on Monday so we just rolled with it).

I may now have only slightly above average body hair coverage and the libido of a fat gammon but I'll still be dining out on the victories of the past 2 years long into the decade.

As Niko said, "excess deaths" need to die in a fire.

And 25,000 over twenty years, fucking hell, I doubt even the relatives would notice that.

    In a similar vein

"Britain counts cost of historic heatwave as 13 die"

They didn't die because of the heatwave, they died because they went swimming and unfortunately ended up drowning. I'm just not sure attributing these deaths to the heatwave are that useful. If you house spontaneously catches fire - fair enough, blame climate change.

All things being equal the ethnics would be more likely victims owing to being naturally weaker swimmers, but their ancestral fear of open water means that they aren't jumping in rivers and old quarries to begin with, so this will be a majority gammon tragedy.
