The only real thing these measures will do is manipulate more people to get vaccinated/boosted and start the erosion of the faith in science we're going to end up seeing off the back of this shitshow continuing.

Alternatively don't get vaccinated/boosted because it won't change anything.

And I think that's where the erosion of faith in science comes in. The deal was quite clear a year ago, vaccinate enough of the population (we have) and we can move on (we haven't).

Just for clarity, that’s not the medical profession or actual scientists fault. The clowns who govern us may present science in a terrible light but there can be no dispute that the vaccine and the multitude of treatments we now have for covid are saving lives.

Agree to an extent, but it all gets wrapped up as one in the public consciousness, which is why you get people defending multinational organisations that shit profit when they wouldn't do the same with one in any other industry.

For me, there's science, which is a wonderful, wonderful thing that understands incredibly complicated subjects and provides solutions to problems that nothing on this planet could have had any hope of solving. Then you have SCIENCE, which encompasses all the chancing wankers who're feathering their own nests and agendas on the back of actual science - which I'm afraid does include medical professionals and actual scientists from time to time.

If I have followed this correctly - massive pharmaceutical companies are engaging in super competent moves to maximize profits in order to undermine not simply a single product line but their entire business?

Being hysterical about others’ hysteria is still engaging in hysterical behavior.

The aim is obviously not to undermine their entire business, it's to make (more) money, but actual science may well end up being undermined if this shit continues. People are losing patience.

I got a fucking positive test result yesterday after returning to the country on Monday. Obviously I'm fully vaccinated and everything. I also feel absolutely fine, annoyingly. I should have listened to whoever it was on here who said "you don't really need to send the PCR back, just get the code to go".

The "Test and Trace" people (despite me specifying on the locator form I was to only be contacted by text, as I work on the phone 90% of my day and can't usually answer my own phone) have been pestering me all day too. By the time I finally could answer at about 7pm, on probably their sixth attempt of the day, I was that fucked off I basically jogged them on and told them to text me the link to the form I can fill out myself, like they should have done in the first place, and leave me alone.

The lad said they would only have been flagged to ring me if I hadn't used the link they sent via text message to fill it out myself, to which I responded that I had not yet received that link despite them clearly having my phone number as they've texted me a code to put into the app if I have it. He still persisted with us needed to carry out a 25 minute (!) telephone conversation.

Trying to simplify it down to "Let me save you the hassle, I haven't left the house, I won't leave the house, I haven't been in contact with anybody unvaccinated and people, everyone else I travelled with returned a positive test when they got back, you know as much about the other people on the plane as me" did nothing to stop us apparently needing to have this phone conversation.

In the end when I said "I'll give it ten minutes, let's crack on" he began the process by asking me to tell him all the information, bit by bit, that I had already filled in on the locator form, which they used to get in contact with me in the first place.

That was enough for me to go down the "Why would you need all this again? I'm sure you can appreciate that from a data protection point of view I find this all a bit strange, and I'm sure if you do work for or with the NHS it won't be a problem for you to get them to sent me the link via text as I requested". Male Karen behaviour? Possibly. I'm not sure. The number was certainly legit according the NHS website, but the process was legitimately suss.

He just left it after that. Said they would put a note on the file to get the link re-sent. I think "data protection" or something to that effect must be the magic phrase to get them to go away. I'm still stuck in the house until the 16th though.

I suppose the only upside to this is I returned to the country the day before you had to start taking a test to even get on the place to come home. Presumably if I had flown home yesterday and failed the test at the airport in Gdansk I would be spending a certain amount of time in some sort of Polish quarantine residence right now? Whatever that would entail. Not the best experience, I'm sure.

I imagine anybody manning track and trace phone lines has about 2 days worth of training and 3 days worth of experience. Hopefully I never have to interact with them.

I tested positive on Sunday with a lateral flow, then confirmed with a PCR. I had a headache and cold from last Thursday and did a test but was negative (as expected since they're not really symptoms). On Monday I had to fill in a form saying everywhere I'd been, which included work/school all week, the gym twice, a school trip, the pub and the Sunderland game. Scary how many people I'd been in contact with.

I only showed symptoms on Monday, losing my smell and taste.

Wanting to know the person next to you is vaccinated only really works if that is of any benefit to you (which the fear-mongering would suggest not seeing as the general population is vaccinated to the eyeballs) unless you're some sort of super altruist and are worried about maybe killing them if they aren't. It's not a great conspiracy though, it's just weak leaders doing stuff for the sake of it and worst case scenarios being allowed to be the de facto starting point for policy.

This talks about waning effectiveness of the vaccines v Delta but it does confirm initial reduction of transmission.

But seeing as 100% reduction in transmission appears to be the [completely unrealistic] benchmark expected by the anti-infections mob it would appear vaccines aren't a way out of this particular pickle.

If they torch Christmas and hospital/ICU admissions don't rocket in January then SAGE should probably be disbanded [or have its members burnt at the stake]. We can pile them all on that shitty Trafalgar Square tree.

The way out of this pickle is to adequately fund the NHS.

Already had two hilarious people tell me "it's a good job the virus doesn't spread in pubs" or "why can I not go into work, but I CAN go to a party".

Are they just not paying attention? The rules are obviously nonsense, but they are consistent (within the aim of slowing spread) nonsense.

Bit like watching a Marvel movie and moaning about Tony Stark flying. How's he flying? Human's can't fly.

From what I've read this morning, I think we may all be in a tizzy over relatively little with this variant.

Certainly Mark Drakeford thirsting to lock Wales down over Christmas might be a little off point.

I would put very good money on that being the case. It'll be more transmissible and more people will end up in hospital and more will die as that's the way numbers work, but it won't be that many more and that'll be that.

If they're trying to bring more restrictions at this point what the hell is the end game? Do they expect us to do this every year?

It's the disconnect between what they can do and what they should do. Government decides it's a good idea to work from home. Comedy writers on twitter scream '...erm, so why are we allowed to have Christmas parties? How does that make sense?'

Why does it have to make sense? Why would the government ban Christmas parties? It's not the government's job to make a perfectly stitched, but also highly dynamic, patchwork of laws to cover everything in everyone's life. It's their job to govern the country. Those are not the same thing.

Maybe a decade ago but even without covid this is the government that tried to ban internet porn on a household by household basis, that's not governing the country it's the nanny state on steroids.

I dunno, we've taken great strides against the ForeverFlu. The reason the other coronaviruses are so benign is down to centuries of exposure and mutations. And vaccinations. We're trying to stamp this one down in a matter of years.

Have we vaccinated against a CoronaVirus before? I didn't think we had SARS and MERS vaccines.

Sorry, I jumped to the 'sure, this sounds right' conclusion that flu was a coronavirus. A SARS one was in development but the virus vanished before they could get properly going. Sure enough, this is the first batch of successful coronavirus vaccine.

COVID passports in Wales are a complete waste of time, all people without them are doing is getting their mates to screenshot them and they all use the same picture to get in anywhere or changing the name on the texts..

Last year I had to watch my Auntie pass away with most of our family stood outside the hospital looking through a fucking glass window all the while these cunts in power are throwing parties behind closed doors.

Now it seems Drakeford is calling for Wales to go into a full National lockdown over Christmas.

Maybe if this Muppet had his wages stopped every time we closed everything down and it hit them personally they wouldn't be so quick to repeat this insanity.

Fair play to the young uns for doing that. You try and manipulate me into getting a vaccine I don't really need? I'll manipulate your shitty system.

Seems Gary Neville has joined the queue for the bus to end this shit and has told his staff they can work in the office if they want, while also rallying against vaccine passports and mandatory jabs.

This is not going to end well.
