Is there any evidence of this? I thought they'd just gone with reduces severe illness (ie the main point), but by focusing on cases and transmission the waters are somewhat muddied allowing for [endless] restrictions.
Thought Moyes' comments were strange to that end today. Wanting to know the person next to you is vaccinated only really works if that is of any benefit to you (which the fear-mongering would suggest not seeing as the general population is vaccinated to the eyeballs) unless you're some sort of super altruist and are worried about maybe killing them if they aren't. It's not a great conspiracy though, it's just weak leaders doing stuff for the sake of it and worst case scenarios being allowed to be the de facto starting point for policy.
The rampant case numbers would suggest otherwise, or at least that it doesn't that much.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a grand conscious conspiracy, but I'm in increasingly less doubt that money is the underlying motivating factor that keeps driving this shitshow forward.

I’m not convinced. The likes of Pfizer and AstraZeneca are multi-billion dollar, multi-national powerhouses in the vaccine / pharmaceutical world. They’d still be those things with or without a covid pandemic.
That's the same as saying "there's no way that MP could have done anything against the public interest to feather his own nest as he's already a millionaire".
It would also make Pfizer and AstraZeneca the first multi-billion dollar, multi-national powerhouses to say "yeah, we've earned enough money now, let's stop driving that revenue stream".
Correlation doesn’t equal causation. They might be profiting off this pandemic (and thank god they are), but it doesn’t automatically mean they are driving the fear train and forcing governments to give boosters.
