So after being harassed (two messages and two emails with the threat of phoning me if I did not comply) into filling in some shitty online tracing form which bothered me for things like "what is your NHS number", "when did you have your vaccine" - do you not already have these things from the passenger locator form, you arse holes? I was guilted into taking a PCR test, my second in a week. Result has just come through and I don't have COVID. Surprising.

My mate who was on the same flight back as me but at the other end of the plane (due to us both outright refusing to give Ryanair more money to choose a seat) was not contacted, so if it was the flight that triggered this and they do it on the basis of how close you are to the infected person (within x rows) I am livid - I sat on that plane with a mask on the entire time, with an empty seat next to me and spoke to no one. Shambles.

That's what I was thinking too, it's a PCR test not a fucking kidney donation

I suspect it's just more a defiance thing than anything though.

There was an interesting stats/Spiegelhalter thing the other day about why a 'confirmatory' PCR test is a bit of a waste of time and the idea that they are 'the gold standard' of testing is a bit misplaced. You probably shouldn't need one if you've already been tested related to travel and have a negative LFT.

But he does need one, because he's been told to get one.

And that's fine, but is also probably a waste of resources in terms of his time, the person doing its time, the lab processing its time and the government paying for its money.

The point was we should probably move to a model where fully vaccinated people, displaying no symptoms should probably be required to take an LFT rather than a PCR if deemed a close contact etc, and the result of that test should be deemed sufficient (be it positive or negative).

Those of you focusing on the minor inconvenience to me of this are doing it wrong. That is a pain, but obviously only temporary, whereas the bigger issue is the colossal waste of money this all is, that if you need reminding (and it seems you do) we're all paying for.

The test centre I went to was the most overstaffed place I've ever seen in my life, which on the one hand I have to give kudos to for the organisation of but on the other that comes at a ridiculous cost. A cost that manifestly (as our test and trace efforts have done the square root of fuck all in this pandemic) is clearly not worth it.

Nobody should be summoned to a test centre with the threat of a 10 day isolation front and centre of the summons (which isn't even a thing anymore) on the back of sitting on a plane with a mask on, let alone if they've been double jabbed. But if you're all fine with that and enjoy doing things for the sake of them, at obscene cost, then it must be me with the problem.

Oh and before yesterday I assumed the hospitality industry and others were struggling for staff due to 'free' rent and Furlough monies, I now suspect their target market is earning double what they would ever offer standing around in a car park drinking tea and moving the occasional cone.

They're not paying double to stand in a car park. These centres are staffed by people on minimum wage.

The vaccination is a brilliant, brilliant thing. I wish as a society we would trust in it more. A wish I aim at both the Dons and Magics of this World as well as those who seem hell bent on keeping this testing and restrictions shit show going. Boosters aside this is done, so can we pur-lease move the fuck on.

I think the vaccination itself is worth it but the problem is there seems to be little upside beyond the medical in terms of what happens afterwards, and the booster is a PR disaster because it plays into the anti-vax line of 'aha now they want you to have continuous vaccinations'.

Fair point. Upon further investigation it's Ł10 an hour to move cones and Ł13.50 an hour to improve people's deep throat reflexes + whatever the agencies are creaming off the top - which I realise doesn't go to the poor sods standing in the cold, but does add to the overall cost of this massive waste of time and money.

I'm sure the anti-vaxxers, like any good conspiracy cretin, would twist it either way. "Oh, we don't need boosters so we've just magically created a vaccine that's perfect and will work forever yeah? Yeah, pull the other one mate! #scamdemic"

    "Alright, let's have boosters then."
    "Aha!"

Alot of people are already doing this and as time moves on more will join. Forget about the rest of them. And definitely don't spend your time worrying about how this Government spends money. This is the tip of a massive, fuck off, crooked Iceberg but the masses don't care so it isn't going to change. Treat Covid the same way. Imagine it's Stephen King's IT. Ignore it and it goes away.

As dumb as the anti-vaxxers are the real ire should be directed at the fear mongering wankers who thankfully have been starved of oxygen of late, but used their actual scientific roles/qualifications or quasi ones to borderline deny the existence and effectiveness of the vaccine and all from a position of reasonable power and influence.

My plan to be in charge of everything is not going well, but if there's an uptick on that front Pep as my 'lord of all science' will stop this shit from ever happening again.

Yep. Whatever deaths we get from this thing from here on in (and I appreciate they will decline further with better treatments) sadly need to be put down to 'shit happens'.

Second. Phone 111 and a minimum wage bod can Google the solution for you instead. Probably quicker than my GP too.

I’m assuming someone doesn’t need to go for a booster if they’ve had it anyway.

There's probably a minimum time between having it and receiving the booster (as was the case with the initial run).

6 months under normal cicumstances, but someone surely wouldn't go for one soon after testing positive I'd say. The 6 months probably shouldn't be taken as set in stone as you're saying it there.
