No one is ever going to admit the group I'm getting at in that question, but we all know if they'd stopped spreading fear and doom when there was just cause to do so (about 6 months ago when mass vaccines turned up), we'd be nowhere near where we are now psychologically as a nation.
The sense keeps on coming:
Double jabbed will not have to self-isolate from 16 August
Sajid Javid says the latest figures show the vaccination programme has saved 27,000 lives and prevented 7m people from getting Covid.
Both doses can reduce symptomatic infection by almost 80%, he says.
He says: "The odds have shifted in our favour and we can look afresh at many of the measures we have had to put in place".
From 16 August anyone who is a close contact of a positive case will no longer have to self-isolate if they've been fully vaccinated, he says.
If someone gets their second dose just before or just after 16 August they'll have to wait for two weeks to build up the maximum protection before they can enjoy these new freedoms, he says.
A lot of this points to those Hancock snog pics being leaked at exactly the right time for him not to be around to block this reopening.
Meanwhile on the other side:
Ashworth, Sir, you are a complete disgrace.Labour’s shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth says Sajid Javid talks about building a protective wall with vaccines, but the “wall is only part built”.
He says data from Israel suggests that the infectious Delta variant can be transmitted through fully vaccinated people, “yet he (Javid) is releasing control when infections are rising and hospitalisations will rise as well”.
Ashworth says he “understands the rationale for his announcement” but he says the “biggest barrier to an effective isolation policy” is “lack of financial incentive to stay home”.
On masks, he calls for a U-turn, saying that rules should remain in place. He adds: “Let’s have freedom not a high-risk free-for-all.”
“Keep masks for now; fix sick pay; and lets unlock in a safe and sustainable way.”
Javid knocking it out of the park here:
Under 18s will not have to self-isolate
Javid says we are not currently offering vaccinations to most people aged under 18.
But the government wants to ensure they can get the life experiences that are so important to their development while keeping them safe from this deadly virus, he says.
In line with the approach for adults, anyone under the age of 18 who is a close contact of a positive case will no longer have to self-isolate, he says.
Instead they will be given advice about whether they should get tested, dependent on their age, and will need to self-isolate only if they test positive.
These measures will also come in on 16 August ahead of the autumn school term.
The government is also looking at how to remove the need for fully-vaccinated UK arrivals to quarantine after returning from an amber list country.
I wouldn't wish to go against your fantastic knowledge obtained from reading news articles aimed at the masses but the point being made was, having likely had both, I can confirm some flu viruses felt much worse and yet no one allowed them to affect their behaviours significantly. It's important to bear that in mind to retain perspective. Also, suck my balls. Ta.
With everyone vaccinated presumably this will kill far less this winter than flu will too.
Nah Lofty, he's had both. He knows.
He still can't use that massive nose of his, right?
Yeah, COVID has the potential to be worse. It is very much comparable to the flu though. To tell mans to shut up for making such a comparison is merely an indication of how much you want to suck their balls.
I'd say it's comparable after we've vaccinated everyone.
I'd go with that. Post vaccine you're talking about a virus that has the majority of the worst elements minimised.
The vaccines changing the game step is the one that a large amount of the population (based on polling) seem psychologically unable or unwilling to make.
You need to learn how to communicate better.
Or just basic comprehension, really.
You need to put aside your prejudices. I realise it's difficult what with me being so FUCKING MASSIVE but it's for the better.
Stop arguing.
I'm a twit
The goalposts will keep moving with the outrage groups. Deepti genuinely looks unhinged on Twitter nowadays.
Are people still supposed to isolate if they test positive after the restrictions are lifted?
Yes, just not if they're contacts (is my understanding).
Obviously not. The legal requirement to self-isolate whilst receiving no support to do so has been a scandal. They've briefed that they're scared they'll have to keep it afterwards if they change SSP.
My response has been simply not to have the app.
Quite. I didn't want to have an argument with my directors about them not paying me for forced leave I didn't want to take so I never bothered downloading it.
It doesn't work anyway, so no biggie.
It also looked like a massive sinecure when it came out anyway (and we simply weren't bothering with any sort of proper track and tracing) so it's nice to have my complete apathy validated.
On the Israeli rise in infections:
Just like here, infections are going up steep but it's not translating directly to hospital admissions. The figures show that between May 2 and June 5, the vaccine had a 94.3% efficacy rate. From June 6, five days after the government canceled coronavirus restrictions, until early July, the rate plunged to 64%. A similar decline was recorded in protection against coronavirus symptoms, the report said.
At the same time, protection against hospitalization and serious illness remained strong. From May 2 to June 5, the efficacy rate in preventing hospitalization was 98.2%, compared with 93% from June 6 to July 3. A similar decline in the rate was recorded for the vaccine’s efficiency in preventing serious illness among people who had been inoculated.
We had 8 off last week due to track and trace, rather than positive cases. Glad that's on the way out. There's been two effective factors in all of this: Lockdown and vaccines. When the two came together (before Delta took off), we were seeing a disease actually dying off. Now it's here, vaccines are our biggest weapon.
Motherfucker, you can't still need convincing after 3.2bn shots.
Haha. Source: the evidence of all the fucking doses.
My wife got a notification on Sunday morning about needing to isolate so she rang them up to query the source of the interaction and after a lengthy discussion to try and narrow it down, was advised to delete the app and get a PCR test. The test was negative and she’s not isolating.
If the National contact tracing team are advising people to delete the contact tracing app, what’s the fucking point.
I'm a twit
I never installed it for fear of situations like that. Going back to the office would just set it off constantly. We take two LFT tests a week, so I'll cover myself with that.
Do you lads without the app fake checking into pubs (camera app, usually) or admit to not having it and writing your details down on paper?
I’ve been lucky that everytime I’ve been someone else I’m with has [claimed to] had the app so checked in for me, cos there’s no chance I was ever downloading it.
I'm a twit
Either who I'm with checks in or I fill in a contact form.
I don't have the app and just give my details instead and have never been contacted.
I just take a photo of the QR Code and pretend it's the app.
I've never downloaded the app and do a mixture of sign in/fake apping.
Er, why are you not giving your details?
So people don't follow him home.
I haven't been out that much, last time was last Thursday in Manchester and it was roasting so all gravy.
I would suggest most people are avoiding it because, as mentioned earlier, people who get full wages whilst isolating are in the privileged minority. A lot of people are likely to take a chance than risk getting SSP instead of £1000+ for the best part of a fortnight. It's not right but it's human nature.
I have a mortgage so I'm not risking 7 days on SSP because I've stood next to some smelly invalid in the toilet.
All valid responses as far as I'm concerned. Shows what a fuck up the whole thing is though. And yet another L for SCIENCE.
