A dickhead in "peads" thinking he's a virologist.

    You don't know then?

I get that viruses mutate but already early doors we've seen people with allergies are unable to have this vaccine, no? So what if the virus continues to mutate? Can the genome protein change to the point the vaccine can't stimulate a response? Genuine question.

Most people with allergies can have it. You'd need a virologist for your other question. My educated guess would be that it would take some serious bad luck for the spike protein genes to mutate sufficiently to render the vaccine ineffective without making the spike protein itself ineffectual. But I don't know

Well we've hardly been blessed with fortune this year. I guess I'm just sceptic on the whole thing now, it's as though if there is a decision to get wrong then you can guarantee we'll choose that path. I can almost imagine the vaccine going from the light at the end of the tunnel the the light at the end of the tunnel for only a percentage and others will have to wait for a new version and so forth.

    It just seems never ending.

If this new strain has originated here then surely the rest of Europe would benefit from closing their borders to us?

Aren't most borders closed (in the sense that people are required to quarantine after travelling in to most places) anyway?

Someone on my Facebook has just posted a picture from the shopping centre (for lack of a better term) in Southend. It's rammed. This announcement should have been both later and with immediate effect, surely?

Nothing has been with immediate effect in this pandemic, could you imagine the chaos. 'Midnight tonight' is the best you can ever do.

Especially with the press sources inside Westminster always leaking shit ahead of time.

Highland is jumping from tier 1 to tier 4 on Boxing Day.

    Smashing.

Gym closed for lockdown so probably stuck up here to work for a while too.

My work whatsapp group started going off earlier, which never happens - suspect this has finished everyone off, morale-wise.

    Sorry about that, Alan.

I've had to log off twitter because of all the shrieking 'Think about people dying! Not having presents is hardly a sacrifice!' or worse still, the ones about how people went through much worse in World War II. How to misunderstand what it is to be human in a single tweet.

Not legally. My sister & husband were going to make the opposite trip but now having to sit in their flat in Edinburgh and eat chips soup or whatever the staple is up there.

I don't think you were allowed to travel anyway until the Christmas relaxation of 23rd, which now does not exist. You're in a Tier 4 zone (presumably) so can't leave it as of midnight tonight, hence the stations are currently packed to bursting with evacuees.

Shouldn't you be one of the many now fleeing London by any means possible? Midnight apparently, but what does it really mean to be 'within the rules'?

I'm in tier 3 Manchester right now and would be traveling into unknown tier Scotland tomorrow on the train.

Unless you have armed guards at the stations, this shit was always going to happen. I'd love to fuck off any sort of traveling during this. The only time it was good was during the second lockdown when you had a double-decker practically to yourself.

Monday morning's going to be so shite.

You haven't been able to enter Scotland legally since 19 Nov unless you're on the list of exemptions, so it's up to you whether to stick with that, or make a dash for the border like Bonnie Prince Charlie. I'd probably do the latter if I wasn't concerned about then getting out again.

If I was a programmer, I'd definitely make a little Windows pop-up minigame where you play as Kiko trying to cross the Scottish border by air, sea or rail while having to dodge Giggles catapulting bottles of home brew at you from passing vehicles.

The new variant is not limited to the Tier 4 areas. It's just where it's most common. It will spread. As will the new tier. We have zero capability to stop it.

It's bollocks. People were happy to meet with their parents/family for Christmas up until someone them not to this afternoon. Nothing significant changed from yesterday or earlier this weel when the cases were already high. Absolute sheep.

P.s. I live in the South East.

We decided last week as a family to just spend it in our separate households.

Funnily enough, the ones that were the quickest to bend previous rules were the first ones to start talking about how Christmas should be cancelled.

There are a lot of preachy people in my family who are happy to do one thing and then say we should all be doing something else.
