It's a 3 grand hit for us.
We get free Holiday Insurance with our bank account, so need to call them to see how decent our cancellation policy is.

If it can go ahead, why not just go?
I'm a twit
Because I don't have anywhere to self-Isolate for 14 days of my 11 day holiday and spending 14 days confined to a hotel room with 2 kids is possibly the only thing less appealing than losing 3 grand.
Can you just fly to a nearby country and drive over the border?
EDIT: Ah, that's a lot of new flights to book. Ignore me.
Justin Trudeau’s wife has it (after returning from the UK), so he’ll probably be the first world leader confirmed, unless Bolsonaro’s results come in first. What a race.
It’s like volcanic ash gate, only a more entertaining film.

You just want all the rewards for yourself you parasite.
Probably. They're not wrong. We can technically still go.
The mrs has called the insurance company and they're saying they will deal with things on a 'case by case basis within 28 days of travel'. Nice little non-answer.
That leaves claiming it back through the Credit Card company (if you paid any on a credit card, which we paid the last Ł200 thankfully) but I reckon they'll slam the door shut on that somehow too.
I was watching Martin Lewis on this yesterday and the rub of it is that if our foreign office aren't advising against travel to an area you won't get a penny back if you don't go.
Top drawer that, Mellin. Especially when 'catching a falling knife' was basically your trial defence. #turnaround
Czech Republic have announced a 30 day ban on visitors from the UK, among other countries. My flight to Prague is in 39 days so I'm either hoping for a quick recovery from this thing, or it continues and forces a further lockdown to get the money back.
Parents-in-law are meant to be going to New York next week. They're trying to see if they can get their money back, but it's looking like a no-go unless Trump extends the ban to the UK.
Seems like those Brazilian officials were rife with it when Trump was over. This is going to do him in, isn’t it?
Trump completely fucking up his speech is a new low, even for him. The travel ban doesn't apply to US citizens, nor does it apply to trade - something is failed to mention in his speech (actually he said the complete opposite regarding trade).
If one good thing is to come out of this it'll be that I suspect it'll genuinely take him down.
It's one thing bullshitting your way through when all people have to worry about is when their next beer is happening, but entirely different when you're dealing with a global pandemic.
My daughter is supposed to be going to NYC with my mum in 2 weeks...likelihood of it getting cancelled?
And I'm going to Hamburg in 4 weeks. FFS.
Yep. I was discussing this with someone on our group whatsapp (the others are all just 'staying positive' and thinking the pandemic will recede) and we believe that even if UK goes into total lockdown, we won't get anything unless there's specific advice against going where we're going.
In a way I don't begrudge them, as no one will benefit from travel companies going bust over this.
I've got nine days of leave to waste before the twentieth of April. I'll be seething if I have to sit in house because everything is closed. Especially if we're all signed off the base anyway.
Thanks.
I'll stop banging on about it now. Final words on the subject. If anyone pursues it, I'll repeat, please be careful. I appreciate it makes people nervous, so I'd suggest bare minimum opening a play money account on a CFD (Plus500 has one), familiarising yourself with the processes and behaviours of the market and catching it on the upswing. Even if you go on to buy certs, it'll build your confidence and understanding ready for the recovery.
I've been in NYC on holiday since Monday and it's been wonderfully quiet. I've not been before, and it's probably always quieter this time of year, but it's been noticeably quiet.
Wanted to go to the Frick Museum and a Broadway show yesterday but all cancelled. The Met and MoMA have closed too so that's
also some of today's plans out the window. Wank.
Fly back on Saturday evening, which doesn't look an issue at the moment, but who knows with everything getting banned left, right and center.
English football off until 3rd April.
Sounds a long time, but it's only 2 games for Liverpool.
Yeah, I can see how you postpone the international tournament for a year (fully fit Harry Kane wahey), but how do you put the regular season off without it rippling across the next few years?
They could finish it quickly in June or whatever.
F1 thinks it will reschedule all the missed races for August.
Scottish football all cancelled now. For fuck sake
AFL, NRL, Super Rugby and the A-League are to be played in empty stadiums for now.
I'm gonna have to get creative with next month's football thread as it stands.
Vietnam officially closed its borders today. No new VISAs at all, from any country.Tourist attractions, including a whole city have been closed.
It's gonna be a quiet, boring, shitty few weeks.
The boredom for us sports fans is going to be the thing. What am I meant to do, watch Downton Abbey for weeks?
Vietnam must be doing a sterling job on this seeing as they've managed to send an infected tube driver back to London.
Charles Barkley possibly.
Poor bookmakers are going to struggle with absolutely no sport on. What a shame.
My cricket club practice nets (which constitutes a gathering of, maybe, 25 people) have been cancelled by the venue. In a week nothing will be left except work, TV, books and shagging.
Even new TV is questionable so Dad's Army re-runs ahoy.
Just done a big tesco click and collect order to pick up on tuesday morning. Should keep me going for about a month.
