Shutting everything down again will be the end of this country for a long long time for sure but I don't think we should be comparing ourselves to Germany or anyone else for that matter because the British are a different breed. Size of countries, living conditions, distances etc. I feel there are far too many factors. We might do the local lock downs but who is going to enforce them? No one. We didn't take it seriously enough at first, it's killed a load of people as a result and it possibly would have overwhelmed the NHS if they had just locked down the vulnerable at that point. But the NHS is fine now (well, as it ever was). I can't see a reason why the world shouldn't be business as usual for the under 50's with the overs and the vulnerable maintaining distancing / shielding. It's probably shit for them but there's no reason for all of us to suffer.

With regards to the NHS btw, it's such a shit show because for such a national treasure and something that's politicised so much, it's the NHS and our inability to have it functioning properly, coupled with 10-15 years of cuts that meant we had to stay away from it but how many times have we been here with that, even before Covid. Top down restructures, wasted funds, lack of PPE, lack of nurses, lack of ventilators. The only reason it got through the pandemic is because we kicked out the vulnerable, threw them into care homes without testing thus killing more people whilst letting those with other serious health issues miss appointments or delay treatment and thus, they died.
Given the NHS is disproportional BAME too and given how multicultural it is, they too die as has been proven as they are more at risk which means even less nurses and doctors and the mental trauma that comes with it blah blah.
