This is all second hand but a mate was telling me that a bird who works as a nurse with his sister came on back into work straight from a holiday in northern Italy because "she felt fairly alright". If it's even remotely true then there's no stopping this when you're dealing with such absolute stupidity.

China's lockdown has been impressive. From 4,000 new cases to 40 in a month. A fortnight quarantine would absolutely sort proper countries out.

I'm genuinely surprised that the UK hasn't done anything yet. They seem to be waiting for it explode, at which point they will start closing schools and playing behind closed doors - you know, when it's kinda too late.

I still keep flip-floppen on this. One second, I'm thinking this is killing 2% of everybody it infects... why aren't people doing more, then 2 minutes later I'm thinking that this is just a shit flu - let it infect young people, and run it's course... the old people...well...

That's a lot of the thinking from western leaders too. Old people = free money in the form of pensions, so.....

They're scared to stop business. The majority of these cases come from overseas travel but, the longer you leave your borders open, the more likely you'll just become a new hotspot. That's how Italy, France and Germany have wound up. I guarantee you Boris is being advised by someone, "Let's just see how Italy plays out." Ignoring the fact Germany's cases have doubled overnight.

They will know what they're doing. While there's still a chance to contain it, there is no point in collapsing society around it.

Korean numbers continue to improve, and the Chinese are all going back to work (Hubei aside). However, I would suggest that in those societies, selfish idiocy is much less prevalent than it is in Europe.

In fact, this seems to be a first world virus at the moment.

I would agree that those cultures are much more likely to do what those in power tell them to than Europe. I mean, look at people shitting into nappies in the Beijing opening ceremony. No chance anyone in the West is doing that.

People also keep saying to me that it's killing off all the Brexit voters, lol. But then equally, this must be far harder to stop with open borders. When I did the rally to the Nurburgring I didn't even know I'd entered a different country until my phone told me via a network change.

We have that mong of a health minister telling everyone that it will probably get to Italy levels here yet you can still land into Dublin from northern Italy as it stands right now.

It's a tough one. You could shut the whole world down, send thousands of firms out of business overnight. Will mortgage companies stop calling payments in? Will they fuck. Life, ultimately, has to go on as best it can.

Yeah it’s definitely going to keep getting worse until it’s clear what the fix is.

Our share price is another 20% down. If I needed to sell shares any time soon I’d be raging. Thankfully I can just ride it out.

Where is best to buy shares? Ideally not somewhere that has a minimum buy too far into the hundreds.

Depends what you're looking for. I use a CFD as I trade intraday. There are plenty out there. They're tax free and your only real charges are on the spread (and overnight fees). If you're going long term then use a broker and get the paper.

I mean, the buy point would literally be to dollar cost average through this entire thing. Just set up 10 entry-buys monthly for the coming year and I'd wager your getting in at a pretty decent price.

Only 2 deaths in the whole of the ASEAN region is a bit fishy. Granted hot weather is helping a lot, but one suspects some slight under-reporting also helping.

It doesn't even work as well. Surely cases/recoveries/deaths all have different weightings, in which case the countries with fatalities should be top or bottom.

I want to buy a few hundred quid worth when the shit hits the fan then sell it all when the market bounces after we're all allowed out again / back to work / to the football.

Don't use a CFD then. Hargreaves have had bad press today (struggled to keep up with demand. One off due to circumstances), but are big and only charge about £12 per trade. I'd do some further reading, but they're probably a decent bet.

Your bank will have a share dealing facility, and that's probably the best way to do it as the paperwork to get set up will be easier.

The one thing I don't understand is why we need to cancel 'public gatherings' but not shut the tube. Until we shut the tube, they are not taking it seriously.

Football without fans is a complete waste of time. It probably looks worse for 'the brand' than simply not playing.

You'd have to figure there's no way the Champions League is getting completed this season.

Football you might as well abandon and start again in August (hopefully). Formula 1 will end up getting boshed, even if they have a couple of races first. It'll probably go round the paddock, if people are actually coming from Modena (something had to finish Bernie off). The last to go will be golf, as golf is outside with people spread out, and is always the last to accept reality in all things. Maybe county cricket will survive as well. Pretty sure that would survive an asteroid.

If it keeps up into the summer hopefully it'll cancel the 12th July parades up here.

Probably end up with riots though as those idiots would try to carry on anyway.

As hard as it’ll be getting people to stay out of the pub and all on the 17th here, there is nothing in this world will stop your July parades going ahead.

If the Champs Elysee is choked with corpses the French might consider postponing the Tour de France.
