I think that’s the biggest frustration. If we had gone full Strailia last March and not opened up the borders until this point whereby a vast proportion of the population are vaccinated now things would have been completely different. However, that was never going to happen.

It would of surely had less of a negative impact on the economy though.

Would we be vaccinated to anything like this extent then though? I doubt it.

If we had shut the borders after the initial wave, which was actually realistic unlike doing it in February or whenever, we would be, because the government could have scared everybody into it with a return to that looming.

Our vaccination programme went postal on the back of Alpha (the artist formerly known as the Kent variant) going mental. If you think the various functions of our civil service would have acted with anything like the same urgency without the clear and present danger of a thousand deaths a day, then I fear you are overestimating the capabilities of our national bureaucracy.

I think they would have still done the deals for the vaccine as realistically even back then it was obvious that’s the only way out.

Or just letting all the old and fat people die. Whichever really.

Actually don't - It's because I've been less wrong about a pandemic than many experts. Which is a shocking indictment of their ability and credibility rather than a comment on my intelligence or lack of.

Plandemic, for those asking, is put forward by those who believe this facilitates a great reset and point to some conference about change Prince Charles and others spoke at pre covid. Undermined a bit by the government's desperate need to get things back to normal as the treasury is bled dry from all angles.

Freedom day looming lads, and the double jab non isolation rule is 4 weeks away. Wonder what the figures are like by that point. Hopefully not another lockdown, but if the government announce there wont be there definitely will be, such is their record of u-turns.

I don't see why there would need to be a lockdown. Hospital numbers are way down on the equivalent from last year, to the point where there would need to be hundreds of thousands of infections a day to get hospitals to the same point as before. 'Freedom day' shouldn't make a huge difference, as many will continue with masks etc and social distancing in reality went weeks ago anyway.

Our run in the Euros was a bit costly as it created so many millions of indoor gatherings and close contact. Southgate arguably a mass murderer.

I don't know whether the BBC should have a stories section, but here they are again, trying to terrify people:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-57866661

He is one of the fourth wave of Covid patients in Bradford Royal Infirmary. Last month the number of patients in the hospital with Covid was down to single figures, for the first time since last summer. This week it is heading towards 50, as the Delta variant conquers all before it.
    Does it really?

You see, because elsewhere on the BBC I can do this:

Now, I'm not sure it's anything other than utterly irresponsible and factually incorrect to describe those figures as having conquered all before it.

Locally, we're up to 50 Covid patients. We were at 32 last week so it's not quite doubling. 5 on ventilators which is up from 3.

Nationally, case positivity is up to 3.8%. 1% up from last week.

People in hospital has increased by 1200 this week. Last week the increase was 700. The big question is when cases and admissions will start to slow again. 700 people from 277,995 positive cases gives you a 0.2% of this disease putting you in hospital but it's likely much less.

I don't know why people are still doing lateral flow tests. They don't work anything like properly enough and now I think about it the fact we were using them to test nurses and doctors before letting them back on a ward was crimous.

Dquincy, you've got COVID. Or at the very least you should be behaving as if you have.

It's a shame we couldn't hastily recruit and restructure the NHS to deal with any of this (on top of the usual NHS workloads). I wonder if any of those retired doctors that came back in the first wave are still around?

It would actually be useful if he could remember the numbers. Why is this happening now when it wasn't in wave 1 and 2? It suggests (as he does in a separate tweet himself) that these variants are more deadly, or at least cause more severe disease.

We also need cameras in our hospitals filming this stuff, warts and all. It can't be that hard to get consent from the families if you tell them it will help others, which it would.

The cameras won't happen because the reality is nowhere near as alarming as some silly bint's tweets. Recent cases on the news have had a 94% incidence rate of having a mobility scooter in shot.

Well if his little anecdote is anything to go by, the hospitals are admitting people who haven’t been vaccinated. At this stage in the game that is either through personal choice or unfortunate medical circumstances. The vaccines are still working.

Course, but our hospitals weren't having to do that (admit 30 year olds) when no-one had been vaccinated, were they?

The portion of the population that is most at risk has shifted from pensioners last year, to Magic and the Plandemics this year.

Okay, let's just run the numbers here:

Covid Johnson has had it twice. Both times he's got pneumonia. Infection gives you about 5-6 months worth of immunity. That's possibly 100 more opportunities to get Covid in his lifetime. Each time doing damage on the way out.

Didn't realise so many people on here had had it. Glad you've ok though. P.s. I'm not getting a PCR test.

I do find it weird how you can have it without any symptoms. Not to get all conspiracy theorist, but do the other coronaviruses have the ability to be asymptomatic in people?

We have viruses and bacteria in our bodies without symptoms all the time. Only 10% of unvaccinated people that catch TB ever develop symptoms. I don't remember the numbers with HPV but it's similar.
