Mike Ashley keeping Sports Direct open on the basis that exercise equipment is essential during the lockdown.

What a cunt. I hope he’s arrested and put in the nonce wing.

He's just doing what every desperate, wrong-headed employer is thinking or doing right now.

The rules are too wishy-washy. Either tell us all to crack on, or don't leave wide open gaps for people to claim to be 'key workers', which is already the worst phrase in the English language.

Yeah, they should define what a key worker is and then tell everyone else to shut or provide their staff with the ability to work from home.

They defined key workers in relation to the school closures, and it has clearly been obvious enough for most companies and people to realise. The only weird anomaly is construction. You would think that would be shut down, but then maybe there are safety elements to leaving jobs half done or unattended for long periods, and then you could argue inside/outside work.

The virus was detected up to 17 days after passengers left on some of those quarantined cruise ships. Fuck.

I'm genuinely proud of my company for closing when they didn't have to. Mike Ashley on the other hand is scum.

The official guidance refers to exceptions for 'health shops' and 'bicycle shops', which leaves enough enough wiggle room in there for him if he insists on being a wank, but otherwise - and assuming the majority of businesses aren't wanks - it's all pretty comprehensive (other than construction). I bet mobile hairdressers are going to be doing a roaring trade going from house to house on word of mouth.

With the amount of social payments being paid down here climate change is going to be an after thought.

This is shoddy and dangerous reporting. Finding traces of the virus (in this case, viral RNA) does not necessarily mean it is the live virus that has the ability to infect people (it may, but it also may not, and the article makes no claims to that end as far as I can tell).

I have only read and heard positive feedback. Especially since Sydney is our Lombardy.

The Gold Coast border will be mess I assume because it has the NSW/QLD running through it.

The lol problems are from grey nomad Boomers racing to get to their preferred holiday destination.

How is day to day life in Vietnam?

The warning, or the $52 for a bottle of Smirnoff?

Even coming from Canada, the first time I walked into the bottle-o near my house in Sydney I was astounded.

Yeah for beer and wine it is rude but taxing away spirits and ciggies is probably a good thing.

Boring as hell. But, the sky is blue, pollution is at its lowest levels and traffic is an all time low.

I fear we are just about to hit a full lockdown as the number of cases, whilst low, are increasing daily, and the government is scared shitless. The biggest problem for expats is that the Gov have basically put a hold on all new VISAs, WP and Residency - so there's a lot of folks stuck here without permission, hoping for clemency when this blows over.

I have a hope that something on this scale might actually help climate change... In the sense of 'we can't have anything like this happen again, the consequences are just too significant'.

    I'm probably wrong.

Food isn't really an issue here. Vietnam is one of the largest producers of rice in the world, and thankfully people aren't stockpiling. The amount of imported luxury food (hello Country Crunch cereal) I imagine will dry up soon!

I went to a small town outside of the city last week - life there seemed very much as normal. Just the big cities affected.

You good for big roll? I could DHL some over.

Yup. The problem with Climate Change... Is that its slow. The effects aren't seen overnight. Deaths can't be recorded in daily league tables

Yeah it never was a problem for me as all the Shell petrol stations have been selling 20 packs.

Rice and pasta is still out if I go at the wrong time.

I had feeling it would be quite civilised up your way.

    There will be soon.

Interestingly, the Gov have literally just announced that anybody who arrived back in the country after 8th March, they are going to get a knock on the door from the cops and have mandatory testing.

In comparison, snowbirds from Florida have been ‘strongly urged’ to immediately self-quarantine for 14 days, but many are, of course, going for a shop, getting gas, and visiting friends and family.

    Fucking selfish cunts.

This is a good read on the Vietnam approach.

    https://amp.ft.com/content/0cc3c956-...mpression=true

Apart from aggressive tracing of infected people’s contacts, the communist leadership’s measures have also included forced quarantines and the conscription of medical students, retired doctors and nurses to join the fight.

Speaking of, what’s been the Gladys response to all this? How much power to ‘shut up shop’ and take drastic measures is devolved to the States?

That’s the problem. The Canadians who spend 6 months of the year in Florida are now legging it back north of the border. They’re old and now likely riddled with disease, and aren’t doing what they’re told to do (because nobody is policing them).

Each state is responsible for their own in house response. Testing, treatment, systems etc but Im not really sure what people think of her as Ive been only focusing on QLD Health who are kicking goals everyday.

Having 20 000 people at Bondi Beach on Saturday surely falls to.her?

The Federal Govenment have been taking care of the UBI (benefits whatever you call it)for the masses as well as Business.

Fair bit of backlash to this now as it's sending the message "I've the virus but I'm grand and still working" when they're trying to get people to behave themselves.

Covid Premier Deaths per 1m Population League Table

Some big news today, with the UK recording the highest ever climb in the table, moving up an astonishing 8 places, sitting just outside automatic qualification to the Europa Covid League. Western European nations continue to dominate, with France and Netherlands both climbing 5 places. However, this is offset by Austria (-6), Germany (-8) and Norway (-10) also dropping.

At the summit, and the race for Champions Covid qualification, Italy and Spain all but guarantee their qualification, achieving more than quadruple and double the 3rd placed team deaths per 1m, respectively.

USA continue to defy the odds, with just 582 deaths recorder thus far - however, these numbers continue to be questioned, with China threatening to ask WHO to look into this, and possible even to get CAS to get involved.

At the bottom, Denmark were dumped into the Championship after reporting sluggish numbers, and Malaysia, who quite frankly were always punching above their weight, were finally relegated. The first South American nation were welcomed, with Samba-plagued boys from Brazil being joined by another European outfit, in Turkey.

My prediction for 2 days time is to see Brazil rapidly climb the table, baring some mischievous reporting, whilst the Top 10 should consolidate their positions.

    BONUS COVID-19 CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE TABLE

For all you fans of dodgy and unreliable figures, take a look at The Championship league table, with such bastions of Human Rights records as Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Qatar! Bottom Ireland also feature in the Championship, pushing valiantly for a play-off position with fellow no-mark countries such as Denmark, Slovenia and Greece.

Still in work at the office as expected. Very subdued atmosphere but I don't think we can close down whatsoever, so it's a case of managing the workforce to at least get some production out.
