"Well, I dropped the kids off at theirs and then they became ill, leading to the second trip. I was fine by then, you see."

    Easy.

The "but he didn't break the rules" defence is incredible. Read the room.

That would be 15D chess, I reckon the maximum they've reached to date is 11.

Having seen more this morning. His wife had symptoms, he should have been isolating as a result. This superseeds every other reason justifying why he didn't break the rules.

It’s all so pathetic. This could just be avoided by saying ‘He made a mistake Under high stress, I’ve told him he’s a twat and we move on’

Instead this childish ‘he was only applying subsection 4 (3) (3) (5) of the Versailles treaty, stop being mean to him’

Take some fucking responsibility you utter mong.

As ridiculous as all the partisan howling is this beats it, just come out and say yes he did something he shouldn't have done but I'm not sacking him so lets all move on.

Even an apology from Dom would've gone alright. Now any apology he makes would be seen as insincere and forced.

There would still be calls for his head, but atleast they could justify not sacking him by saying 'look, these are unprecedented times and we are all dealing with it as best we can. People will make mistakes. That is why the police have been told to go easy on the fines and to talk to people with understanding'.

That said, the way they've handled this is perfectly inline with how they've handled the whole shit show, so it's better this way really. If we're going to have a shambles, then let's have a proper fucking shambles. I want riots on the streets and orgies in care homes. Bring it on.

Even if he didn't break the rules, how does it look to other people that have been very strict about not seeing their parents. I would have loved to see my father in law over the last few weeks but didn't. I would have done if I'd known that all the guidance was bollocks that doesn't apply to senior government figures.
I could have been seeing my workmates through all of this, but we don't all work for Asda. The rules are there, and - based on what we know at this moment in time - his actions were well within them. There is only a story beyond that because people want there to be one (notice it has moved on to him being a 'distraction', as if operating in a vacuum), and if you want to get worked up about it crack on.

    No they weren't.

The rules stated that if anyone in a household is experiencing any symptoms then everyone has to isolate and is not allowed to leave the house.

I think we've established that the website slogans don't quite cover all of the legislative exemptions, otherwise people would be getting fined for going to the hospital and dying of it.

Boris sticking by Cummings, then. Apparently there’s more stuff to be released tomorrow but they don’t think it will be ‘too damaging’.

No social distancing, all but a few not wearing masks, rubbing up and tripping over each other. Knobheads.

This is a stronger defense than anything Lewis can come up with because it's the truth. 'He's my mate, leave him alone.'

As has been said on here. All they have to do is admit he did it. It was a mistake, it won’t happen again, he’s very sorry and the PM has decided his input is too valuable not to have in this current predicament and it doesn’t get blown up like it has been.

You've just edited out saying that you haven't read what I'm referring to, but you're still up on it enough to question what I'm saying. It would be a suicide dive over the ropes having to deal with that level of stupidity.

While this shit is going on, it seems likely that the lockdown might be eased a bit which is of more long term interest (to me at least).
