The kids weren't at any sort of personal risk, statistically speaking (listening to that radio 4 stats programme the 'risk' to anyone under 15 is insanely low to the point of basically being non-existent - 1 in 3 million or something), but the wider points about them being a (potential) risk to their grandparents seems strong (1% of the over 90s have died of covid, not 1% of those who have had it, 1% all in!) and fuck knows where driving the length of the country fits in with essential travel. It's probably 'within the rules' (as he's not a total idiot) but all that shows is that the rules (which he probably had a hand in) were a bit shit.
