TTH - Team of the Decade

Shamelessly ripped off from the Premier League twitter account but it's worth a stab, I reckon. Your team of the last decade, chaps.

I'm going to try and be as non bias as possible so here goes.

    Petr Cech

Branislav Ivanovic - Rio Ferdinand - Virgil van Dyke - Ashley Cole

    N'Golo Kante

Mohamed Salah - Kevin de Bruyne - Eden Hazard

    Sergio Aguero - Luis Suarez

I think Van Dyke might be a debatable one given his rapid rise in profile since joining Liverpool but equally, it's your best team of the decade, it doesn't mean they have had to play at that level otherwise it would probably be John Terry. Luis Suarez in my mind would have surpassed most of the Premier League strikers if he never left when he did but some of the things he did in his short time were phenominal. I can't really include Thierry Henry who would have taken his spot as he left in 2007 and I'm not including his short loan spell back. Sergio Aguero makes it on the basis he's been the best out and out striker in the league for so long. Salah might be an iffy one to some but clearly he's a step above the majority.

    Your thoughts and your teams.

De Gea; Azpilicueta, Kompany, Terry, Baines; Kante, KDB, Toure; Bale, Aguero, Hazard

Went for an actual starting XI rather than fitting in as much attackers as possible. You could argue Van Dijk I guess.

Anyone not putting Vardy in is an idiot. 5th highest scorer of the decade and he only turned up 5 years ago.

Than Suarez who played for 2 years? Or Kane who still hasn’t won literally anything in his career?

My reasoning for Suarez over Vardy is he was much more than just a goalscorer. I think if you had Kane, Vardy and Aguero as a front three then you probably couldn't argue but the way I look at Vardy is he's a goalscorer who needs a team built around him and to play in a certain way to get the most out of him whereas Aguero has proven he can adjust (and has done) whilst Kane is Kane. I don't see him as much more than a goalscorer albeit not a very clinical one given the amount of shots he doesn't put away.

He was very clearly saying Aguero is better than Vardy.

Kane and Vardy had their first full Premier League seasons the same year and Kane has outscored him by a fair amount.

It really was. Right back had an okay selection but left backs were all guff. Liverpool’s pair will sort that out in due course.

I think it has to be defined by performance within the decade, rather than x player at his peak if he played in the decade.

Otherwise you'd just go 1 to 11 with the current Liverpool team.

Make that thread too. Could be interesting, as long as that Cabaye and Ba Newcastle team doesn't get within a thousand yards of it.

Liverpool win the 70's and 80's, United the 90's and early 00's, Chelsea the mid 00's then City thereafter I would have thought if that were the case. Unless it goes worldwide in which case, how much did any of us ever really see? It's why I believe Messi to be the greatest of all time as Pele/Maradona were before my time. Well, less so Maradona but he was nearing the end of his career by time football became a passion in my life for certain.

It's why I can't get excited about those famed Brazilian teams either. Best national team of the decade for example would be Spain for me but then their conquering sides were right at the end of last decade and beginning of this. 2008/10/12. Just amazing.

Not enough Gareth Bale. His three seasons in this decade were world class and topped half the players mentioned. If we’re having Kante, then he’ll have to do too.

I feel like Bale's best work came at Madrid but that's arguably because of the bigger stage. Full backs are a wasteland, too. All the right backs have been mentioned and there was a slight thought crossing my mind of, "Err ... Bellerin?" just because he was quick once.

If we're doing "guys who played for our clubs and were good-to-great most of the time" Carrick is in front of Milner by a fuckin mile.

Surrounded by quality and hounded by supporters who don't appreciate him. He proves how good he really is by constantly taking the game by the scruff of the neck with players who will perhaps never reach the level required to play for the likes of Madrid, let alone the top flight football.

Prior to Ronaldo leaving Madrid he was always more of a supporting act hampered by injuries. I'm pretty sure if you asked him too he'd claim his greatest feat is reaching the semi finals with Wales than anything he's done with Madrid.

    De Gea

    Azpilacueta, Kompany, Van Dijk, Evra

    Kanté, Milner

    Salah, Hazard

    Kane, Aguero

Went for a 4-2-4. Once you realise that you've gotten old and the likes of Rio, Terry, Cole and Cech all did their best work in the 00's, the defence kind of picks itself.

Kanté is a gimme but I've put Milner alongside him as he is criminally underrated and he deserves more recognition. Up front however it gets a lot more tricky. You cant really leave either Aguero or Kane out, but you've also got Vardy who deserves to be in there. Then you've also got those like De Bruyne, Suarez, RVP and maybe even Costa who you could argue. It's also getting harder to ignore Sterling on these lists.

A Kanté-Milner road movie would be better than them being a midfield pair.
