I remember first time I tried them and was expecting some sort of proper ace meat pie and was thoroughly disappointed that it was some sort of faffy sweet pastry.

That disappointment will never really fade.

The best 1% of mince pies are edible, but anything below that is absolutely revolting.

If they were any good you'd have them all year round.

Shop bought ones are obviously shite. A batch of this should do you the month:

    1kg mixed dried fruit (sultanas/currents/apricots)
    500g grated apple (fuji/granny smith)
    400g sugar
    Pinches of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg
    Splash of brandy

I thought the same as a kid.

Doesn't help that I hate dried fruit especially the little devil shits that are raisins.

Only warmed up or in a particular context. November is not that context.

They're great in all forms, homemade or shop bought, cheap cheerful and poncy expensive ones. Would happily have one room temperature in the middle of July, fuck you all.

I don't rate Stollen but it's definitely more Christmas to me than a mince pie.

Mince pies are mega, but give your head a wobble if you're bringing up Xmas stuff in November

I went to my local Chinese tonight which is an Eat as Much as you like non-buffet restaurant and they had a Christmas menu.

There was nothing Christmassy about it but it was a little strange that they were pushing it early.

Had some new new things on it though including sizzling mutton in satay sauce which was incredible as was the egg fried rice with crab and asparagus.

A little strange that the Chinese were trying to sell a load of fake branded tat? Where have you been?

The Mrs is away the weekend of the 7th and we've our work parties () the weekend of the 14th so we're putting ours up on the 30th of November. I suggested the 21st of December but she won. Tree up in November is just wrong.

The mrs would put ours up the day after Halloween if she was allowed. I'm sick of the thing about 4 days after putting it up. We put it up the first Saturday in December as a compromise.
