Do you play every game Mahow, or using some instant result skin like Smiffy?

Into March now with Slough and I can honestly say this 4th season is one of the toughest I've had on FM for a while, and yet one of the most enjoyable. We're one of only 4 semi-professional teams in the National League and the sheer glut of games that we've had is causing a serious strain on the fitness and ability of teams I can put out. It's not been helped by a cup run that sees me in a two-legged FA Trophy semi-final, and it's taken 3 replays (and 2 batches of extra-time) to get this far. We've got 22 games scheduled for the last 12 weeks of the season.

And yet, we still pull out results when you expect them the least. Like a 2-1 away win at runaway leaders York, who hadn't lost in 21 games, with the winner coming in the 92nd minute. Or conceding a 90th minute goal away at Crewe in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy, only to score an equaliser in stoppage time and force a replay 4 days later. Hoping for a solid mid-table finish to set up for a playoff push next season.

Every game, I don't like the instant results thing.

I have a lot of time on my hand and I've knocked a lot of my other gaming time sinks (FIFA mainly) on the head.

Bit off topic... Whats your long term plan mahow?

Do you fancy an apprenticeship or part time job?

Bit off topic, but genuinely interested. I love sitting about watching films and tv but need a routine of work.

Ive tried a few times to get into FM but I struggle to stick with it. Maybe smiffs instant result is the way to kick into it.

The long term plan is to get a part time job but I need to work through my anxieties.

Didn't help that Covid came in just as I self-referred to get myself some extra help focused solely on those issues.

Well good luck to you. I think it would really help you, probably just need to dive in at some point. Something low key and relatively low maintenance or stressful.

It’s pretty daunting at first but gets easier.

Smiff, did you really spoiler your game using that shitty loop hole to sell a player? Please no.

I threw my 8 point lead over Chelsea almost as soon as I'd noticed it and spent three months two points behind them until they finally slipped up

Their fixtures saw away at Man Utd followed by away at Man City which was delayed from earlier, so with that game in hand they could have still taken it to a point difference going into the last day but then this happened

    Matthew Andrews, you beautiful man

This must surely top the League and FA Cups as our finest achievement, right board?

This fucking sucks. We have £3.1m in the bank so don't need money anymore and with squad restrictions this will fucking suck as I can only have 4 non-Venezuelans in the team for the league so selling our best Venezuelan who also happens to only be 19 years old is a real kick to the balls.

Edit: And he's gone. Can't sign anyone as we're out of our window. Fuck.

They stuck him on the loan list the minute he signed.

Nope, dickheads accepted a straight £1.1m transfer. They originally accepted a £600k transfer which I got them to reject, then Udinese came in with £900k which I could only tell them to re-negotiate and they took £1.1m.

Happened on the last day of the Italian transfer window too.

As I said earlier I can only use 4 Venezuelans in the league and right now I have Bubacarr Kebbeh, Dermival Leira, Francisco Valdivia and an Argentinean striker I have on loan.

The plan when this season ends (I'm out of the Libertadores and we still have 7 league games before the play-offs) is to gut the squad a bit (I'd like to sell Maldonado, Ruiz, Chavez, Cabrera and Carvajal) and go all out to try and win the Libertadores.

    Hermanos Colmenarez Season 2022/23:

    League results:

    Table:

Absolutely pissed it. Can't see us not finishing first again.

    Playoffs:

Annoying that we lost every single second leg, especially after that run of wins, but job done.

    Libertadores:

We were tremendous in the group stage and thought we might see off Palmeiras as we scored within seconds in the first leg. Sadly 34 year old Taison shat on us and we just couldn't come back from that.

    Squad:

Already sorted out a deal for this chap who was on loan for us:

And I have a better Venezuelan GK coming in. I also might turn Barrios' and Cabello's loans into permanent deals.

My board are really pissing me off now. We have £5m in the bank and are doing well in the Libertadores right now but they're still acting like we don't have a pot to piss in.

They accepted a £675k bid for:

And this guy has also had his head turned:

They're a fucking shambles. More bids have come in and they've accepted them all for both players and I can't protest them.

    Nine hundred thousand...

They've sold one of our best players for fuck all. Just 3 weeks before our Libertadores semi-final first leg.

I can't sign anyone right now but even if I could that 900k would not get me anyone close to his ability.

At least the board got £900k for our best midfielder.

I've resigned and now looking for a new challenge. It's a shame it had to end this way as I wanted to bring Libertadores glory here and would have achieved it this season or next if the board weren't absolute cunts.

So I took some time to look for a job and then I noticed Allianza Lima's manager's contract was expiring and I kept declaring interest. After a few weeks he resigned and after a job interview they offered me the job.

Got £1m in transfer funds and £21k left in the wage budget.

I'm really hoping we get Hermanos (who sold their best LM and the best 2 CM's for peanuts) in the Libertadores group stage.

    Oxford City - 2042/2043

    Season Summary

We captured our eighth Premier League title and our fifth on the bounce in emphatic fashion and were crowned champions on April 4th.

    The Squad

    Toggle Spoiler

    The Back Bone.

Now in his 10th season as the clubs number one, Ollie Armstrong has won it all at club level, (as have many of the following players) but just 42 caps for England in that time is a little underwhelming. He's not 'that' good in terms of average rating as he's not had a season above 6.94 however he's one of our own and that counts for something for some reason.

My own flesh and blood, a club icon like daddy'o, and a world renowned name. Rood. 11 seasons as an automatic starter, 357 appears, 305 goals. Lovely. Quite possibly one of the best in the world.

In years to come and people talk of the games greats, Proctor's name will come up in conversation as one of England's most underrated centrebacks. What he lacks in leadership he makes up for in determination. He's a club legend, an international regular and has now made 354 appearances at the back. Not too much of a goalscorer from set pieces so to score ten this season was an odd one but another of our own and one of our old and gold generation.

Quite possibly the man who made it all possible. Yan Canti, real name Yan de Oliveira Cavalcanti ended the campaign with 31 goals in 54 appearances at the grand age of 34. 642 career appearances, 423 goals, a Brazilian legend, an Oxford legend and after 16 seasons at the club, he's still going strong. I hope he doesn't retire any time soon.

Aliu has been at the club since we poached him from Southampton in 2028 and has gone on to make 411 appearances scoring 53 goals. He's another legend but I think he reached his glass sealing three or four years ago.

    The Reserves.

    Toggle Spoiler

    Yeah, stocked.

The pick according to the star ratings are:

    The Rest of the Season

We won both the Super Cup and the Community/Charity Shield early doors whilst defeating Newcastle United on penalties in the EFL Cup. We had knocked out Liverpool (3-1), Man United (1-1p) and Tottenham (3-1agg) en route but only the third time we've won the competition. A long way behind Manchester City's 13.

Manchester City as it happens were our opponents in the FA Cup final as we successfully retained it to complete a hattrick of wins taking our total tally to 6. Still nine off Arsenal's total of 15 though.

And sticking with Arsenal, they would be our Champions League quarter final opponents after we knocked our Schalke in the 1st knockout round. A 2-1 home win gave us the advantage but Kelvin Ikenna's solo effort in the return fixture gave The Gunners the 1-0 win and the away goals rule went in their favour. Ikenna....the very same Ikenna I sold to them four years ago. He ended our four year reign asEuropean Champions. Thankfully Liverpool who finished poorly in the league ensured Arsenal wouldn't claim our crown, instead it would head back to Merseyside for a 10th time.

I feel that doesn't do him justice. So without further ado...

    The Career of Yan Canti.

Signed as a 19 year old from FC Porto in the 2028 January transfer market. He'd not spent too long in Portugal but it was clear that he had an abundance of talent and so we splashed out a club record at the time of £54M.

Prior to this he'd claimed FIFA U20 World Cup with Brazil and the French Youth Invitational. Major honours init. Just months before joining us Canti took home both the European Golden Boy award and the FIFA Best U21 Men's Player award as well as gaining his first cap for Brazil in a 2-0 win over Senegal. Seven strikes in the few games he managed once joining was a decent return, little did I know how many more were to follow but they helped us finish 10th and cement our top flight status.

    2028/29

His first full season at the club and one that yielded 21 league goals as he was an ever present which put him in 3rd place in the goal scoring charts. Also claimed the Copa America with Brazil but after 16 caps, he'd still failed to register for the national side however they did help us finish 6th and ensured we qualified for the Europa League.

    2029/2030

Finally got off the mark for Brazil when scoring his first goal against Peru but it was his exploits at club level that had the football world taking note. 31 league goals in another ever present campaign was a phenomenal as was his complete mockery of the Europa League. Named Premier League Young Player of the Month on four occasions, voted the European Golden Boy for a second time, broke the Oxford City all time record for most league goals with a total of 56 at this point. Finally, voted Players Young Player of the Year, Players Player of the Year, Footballer of the Year, claimed the top goalscorer award as well as the Europa League scoring the second goal in our 3-0 win over Tottenham.

    2030/2031

The season saw him break the club record for most goals in a season with 41 and he was also named the clubs new captain. Scored the winning goal in the Super Cup final against Arsenal too. Monthly accolades continued to stack up whilst he claimed the FIFA Best U21 Men's Player again and was named in the 2030 FIFPro TotY. How long before Brazil start playing him upfront is anyone's guess.

    2031/2032

Won the Olympic Games with the Brazilian U23's, took the top goalscorer award in the Premier League as he led the club to its first top flight title. Voted Players Young Player of the year, claimed the FA Cup and broke his own record of most goals scored in a season.

    2032/2033

Named the forward of the season in the Champions League as bowed out at the semi final stage to a late late Barcelona sucker punch. Won the Golden Shoe, named Brazil's new vice captain and the goals continued.

    2033/2034

    2034/2035

Claimed the Charity Shield, was voted Player of the Month on three occasions and named in the Premier League's team of the year. Lost his top scorer status to Manchester City's, Sebastiano Esposito who'd become one of the games greats.

    2035/2036

The first time in many a season that Yan Canti failed to be the clubs top scorer as his new strike partner Adel took the honours but he did continue to win plenty as we claimed the treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League final, Yan Canti scoring our first, now club legend Matthew Proctor levelling in the 90th minute as we defeated Manchester City on pens. He also broke the record for fastest Premier League goal. 13 seconds.

    2036/2037

Now we were getting serious. Challenging as the games elite striker, Yan Canti finished runner up in both the FIFA Best Man's Player award and the Ballon d'Or but he's getting there. Top goalscorer once again in the Premier League as we claimed the division and the Champions League crown once more. Yan Canti scoring in the final.

    2037/2038

Yan Canti started the season off by claiming both the Charity Shield and the Super Cup, the finally got his hands on the FIFA Ballon d'Or after missing out last season, won the Golden Boot as Europe's top goalscorer, the Premier League's top goalscorer and was voted Forward of the Season by the Champions League. Sadly we missed out on the title as Manchester City dominated from start to finish.

    2038/3039

It was the talented Diguinho who ended the season as the clubs top goalscorer on this occasion. I do miss the trio of him, Yan Canti and Adel but Adel moved to Barcelona eventually. I couldn't turn down the sums offered when we'd signed him for nothing. It was the first time Yan Canti would find himself seriously injured too as he broke down in February due to wear and tear and had to go to see a specialist.

He still had a great season though. He broke the Brazilian record of most goals in a match with six against Turkey in the World Cup, thus breaking the competitions record too. He broke the most goals record with ten as Brazil finished 3rd. Domestically however his injury meant he only finished in 3rd place in the goalscoring charts but did win the Premier League and the Champions League too.

    2039/2040

Yan Canti came back from his injury stronger than ever as he claimed the Charity Shield and Super Cup early doors. Voted FIFA Best Men's Player, named FIFPro Player of the Year and named in the FIFPro TotY. Clinched the Ballon d'Or for a second time, top scored in the league as we took the title and retained the Champions League.

Every striker in the world was completely blown away by Diguinho's season but Yan Canti still played his part as we won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup whilst putting the memory of four years earlier to bed by claiming the FIFA Club World Cup at the second attempt. Finished runner up to Diguinho as the leagues top goalscorer, his fellow Brazilian beating Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's totals from the 90's.

    Colossal effort Smiff.

I am back with Oldham. Relegated as predicted. Back in League One with a talented team I thought I would be ok playing my preferred attacking, possession, attractive game. Despite a couple of nice spells including one where we smashed 5 into Blackpool without reply before half time, our form was all over the place and it was clear an immediate return to the Championship was under threat if I didn't bite the bullet and change things up.

Long story short I have gone to a 4-1-4-1 Big Sam wet dream all about the set pieces at the expense of my fancy dan AMCs and it is getting results. Season has a long way to go but interesting to see how this plays out.

    Saison 2029-30

It's a been a while. I promised an interesting summer in my last update and so it proved as we added quite a bit of meat to the bone. Arriving to bolster our defensive ranks were former academy product Frederic Guilbert and the French James Milner, Anthony Caci. Given his previous ties with the club Guilbert was awarded the captaincy. Moving on to the midfield and Ilaix Moriba was picked up on a bosman after his Barcelona career had come to a stand still. 25 and with little playing time he could improve significantly. Joining the Spaniard was fellow countryman Adama Traore for a measly £2m from Fiorentina. Granted he is 32 years of age, but his pace remains electrifying at 19. Not too dissimilar from the current time his position will oscillate from right wing back to second striker. Another academy graduate returning to the club this time in the form of Thomas Lemar. Here's hoping he can bring fresh ideas to the left wing back role. Last but not least Moussa Dembele came north from Lyon for £1m. It's an absolute steal for a striker who is very much still at the top of his game. All those additions left our first eleven looking like so:

    GK - Brice Samba
    CB - Badiashile
    CB - Tanguy Kouassi
    CB - Zidane (Newgen)
    RWB - Guilbert
    LWB - Lemar
    DM - Ntcham
    DM - Tousart
    CM - Reine-Adelaide
    AMC - Adama Traore
    ST - Dembele

    Ligue 1

By far and away the most consistent league performance to date from either Caen or Toulouse. No higher than third and no lower than sixth, our performances led us to another fourth place finish. As ever we had the most formidable defence in the league, but it was our goalscoring exploits that kept us in the conversation. The Lemar-Dembele connection proved a real hit as they contributed to 44 of the teams goals. Unfortunately for Dembele his Lyon exit proved costly as they became Ligue 1 champions for the first time since 2008. Nice and Toulouse weren't far behind, PSG (the demise is real), Lille & Marseille made up the European places. In keeping with domestic matters we once again blew a great opportunity of silverware painfully exiting the Coupe de France quarter final on penalties. Nice would go on to lift the trophy adding to an impressive season under the tutelage of one Paulo Sousa.

    L'Europe

Dining at the top table of European football is still a new experience for Caen and we were helped tremendously with a group consisting of Milan, Salzburg & Standard Liege. A second placed finish was brutally punished in the last sixteen as we drew a very talented Manchester City side. A dire 0-0 in Normandy provided a glimmer of hope, but this was quickly dashed by a first half hat-trick from one Phil Foden at the Etihad. Karanka's Valencia would go on to win the competition.

Steady progress it would seem and for once my job isn't under threat. With fifteen players in the first team squad over the age of thirty, I'll have to look to youth in the coming seasons taking some risks along the way.

    That first XI looks quality.

Managed to get back into the Championship by the skin of my teeth on the final day, avoiding the playoffs. The question now is do I stick with my new approach or adjust it, and I need to work out what I am prioritising this summer to give me the best chance of staying up. I think it's quite telling that the board, having been very lenient with me the whole save since I always overachieve have set the immediate objective this time round (3rd time in the Championship) of 'Mid-Table finish - Required' as opposed to 'fight bravely against relegation' etc. The kicker is last time I went up (possibly because it was as champions) we got a hefty £4m to spend but this time it's £500k. I am being offered £10m for my right wing wonderkid but his release is £12m and I would rather give him a new contract than lose him, he is that good.

I think my best bet is to identify the best loan targets I can secure and then shop the bargains after, primarily focusing on shoring up the defence to try and prevent 38 hidings which made me lose interest last time round.

Due to the nature of the Peruvian league I thought I'd do a mid-season update, so...

    Allianza Lima 2024/25 Mid-Season update:

    Transfers out:

The squad was absolutely packed when I got here and the quality was a little low. We're also only allowed 5 non-Peruvians and after a quick search on the transfer market I saw that they were nowhere near the quality I could get.

    Transfers in:

    Toggle Spoiler

So I decided to go back to Hermanos (who lost every group game in the Libertadores and are sitting 5th in the league, well done board) and poach Medina and Gabriel Garcia. I had been grooming Medina to be our next big CM just after they sold Romero. He was only playing in the Libertadores (as we could only register 4 for the league) but he was flourishing in the Libertadores. Garcia is a natural RB who I spend time training into a LB too to provide depth at Hermanos and his physical traits are fantastic.

Aivar came in and has been World Class, he's lethal. CM was a problem for us after the sales which is why Ramos (who wont be here for too long) and Barranzuela came in and the other 2 cheap loans to help at CB.

I also have the following two already signed waiting:

I wanted to sign him in the first window but he wasn't too interested and wanted £9k a week in wages. I went back in for him when his interest rose. £775k with £6k (IIRC) in wages per week. Absolute steal as he was a monster for me last year and some big clubs were after him. He was also born in Peru too so wont count as a foreigner. I'll have to play either him or Aivar up front as I need them both in my team.

Found this guy and he wont sign for a while but I couldn't say no for £10k especially as my scouts absolutely adore him.

    League:

Apetura won easily which means we qualify for the playoff final to determine the champion at the end of the season.

    Libertadores:

Was nervous after we drew with Millionarios and then lost to Corinthians but we came back strong and we qualified in second on 13 points with Corinthians also on 13 but with a +4 better GD.

We face Bahia next who finished top of their group over Atletico Mineiro, Liga de Quito and Atletico Tucuman on 12 points.

    Squad:

Aivar has been the main man but he missed 7 games due to injury although he came back strong after that. He will be playing as a ST in our next match as Leiria will be here so will be interesting to see how he handles being more central.

The experiment went well until Aivar fucked his ankle and will now be out for 4-5 weeks. Leiria also had an assist so it was going really well.

    That was horrible.

Second round first leg. Annoying to concede 2 away goals, even more annoying to lose both of my main CM's for the second leg.

    That booking list

Stuck with the shithouse 4-1-4-1 for promotion, done some alright business including managing to sign some of last season's loanees permanently. Every position is at least 3 stars of above, I know the star system is subjective but still. Highlight of the window was someone coming in for my moany right wing wonderkid and activating his clause, only for him not to agree terms meaning he is stuck with me until at least January.

I actually found a superior replacement if he does go, but I suspect he will have the last laugh by being so awkward I never get to cash in on him. Hopefully he bags double figures before the next window so I can sell him for a fortune, already safe from relegation.

The star system needs going in the bin imo.

Looking to see which wacky club/manager combos had come up (Dybala at Dundee and Cannavaro at Bristol City early standouts) and Chelsea have stuck with Lampard for the full 14 years and counting, during which time he's become top of the pops. Shout out to Gareth Southgate's 2022 World Cup and subsequent domestic sweeps with Porto and Bayern Munich

Star system needs to be worse imo. At least the potential stars. Only the 19-20 JPA scouts should ever come close to being consistent at predicting a player's potential, and even then they shouldn't be getting it right more than 50% of the time. Otherwise once you buy up all the top 16 year olds you know you'll be set once they come of age

The star system is only relative to your existing squad isn't it? I like its mix of guesswork and general wrongness.

Yeah a five star player in a Vanarama National team could be a 2 star player in a League 1 team, and if you have a 4 star left back and sign a better one, the original player's star rating will decline.

Is there any point in the actual numbers then or just better to pick the team by stars?

The attributes are the most important figure and I would always compare players based on this when making decisions, however stars are good for an overall glance, for me anyway.

I go with attributes and eyeball them against the current crop. I'll look at their form to see how consistent they are as well. Scout reports are kind of the last piece of the equation but I'm usually scouting them just to take away the fog of war.

I've just had a look through the personalities of my squad. Thomas Lemar being a model professional has thrown me.

That is surprising. The best personality type you can get, supposedly.

So I stuck with the shithouse tactics upon promotion to the Championship, and I think the fact I was able to keep a lot of players together I had signed during their developmental stages bore fruit as now my starting XI has green lines all over the shop. It's been quite the season, given my objective was to avoid a relegation dog fight. It's currently January 28th and I'm 6 points clear at the top of the Championship I got some decent loanees in but to be honest the best players are all mine. Got Brighton in an FA Cup 4th round replay and just lost the Carabao Cup Semi Final second leg away at Old Trafford to an Mbappe VAR given penalty.

It's fair to say on the pitch things arw going swimmingly, the problem is off the pitch my best players have known for some time they are worth more, resulting in me being unable to agree new contracts with them and raise their release clauses. No-one will go for my right wing wonderkid because his release is too high but he will go for nothing in the summer if I don't sell now, so I could potentially lose my first choice right winger, left winger and one of my centre mids with 72 hours left in the window and the board not willing to let me offer wages befitting top Championship players. Going to be interesting!
