I'm mostly farting about playing people I know with this but have done a little Ultimate Team and I declare it to be largely bollocks. Nearly MMO levels of "do a shitload of busywork in the hope of getting something shiny." I can see why it's popular, I have done some of said busywork in the hope of getting something shiny, but that doesn't mean it's not a bit rubbish.
It also somewhat undermines it's own "build a dream team premise" early doors by wanking on about how much better everything will be if you get players in the team who have CHEMISTRY because they share a hairdresser and hump the same glamour models. It's basically that dickhead in a dream XI conversation who goes "yeah but as if Zidane and De Bruyne would work in a 442" but turned into an entire game mode. And yes I see you can apply consumables to get around that but again, that falls back into the busywork thing.
I could also rant a good bit more about the UI having found more irritating things since my last post about it but I'll contain myself.
For balance, I do enjoy the actual games of football for the most part. The hilariously scrappy goals that weren't possible in the football games of my youth are a joy. I also twatted a free kick off the post and in off Manuel Neuer's arse the other day and if that's not worth another couple of marks out of ten I don't know what is.
FUT has been MMO levels of grind exchange for years. At this stage it seems almost grindier than your WoW / Eve Online fare.

I’d love Saka to get it as an Arsenal fan, but also as I did the PL TOTS just now in the hope of landing either Aubameyang or Vardy for a potential strong link and got the latter. He looks pretty awesome, so Saka would give me reason to properly try him out. I’ve also got 95 De Bruyne, so if I can, will try to fit something around what I’ve currently got as a La Liga / Ligue 1 hybrid featuring all of them. Kante might make it do-able.
Anyone know when they upgrade the showdowns? I’ve been enjoying Vinicius in his current form and can’t wait to see him with a further boost, hopefully to strength in particular.

That’s just lovely. He’s been awesome ever since I got him in, so that escalated will be fun. Atall on the other wing is also very fun, especially with Lala behind him, who is every bit as good as his TOTS from last year, and a bit better as he’s more agile.
So I thought I'd try the FUT rivals thing to see if I'd get much single-player mileage out of this. I endured 5 games of "Placement Matches" where every one of their players was much better and faster than every one of mine and my goalie was incapable of anything and thought when I got to the matches in the shitey division it put me in I'd be against people with a) similarly shit squads as mine and b) who are also not very good. Alas, no. First team I faced had a team with basically the same thing going on, so that's the end of that.
Friendlies against people I know it is. I enjoy those.

Well, since you asked.....
I've come to realise that some of it is probably that I'm playing on PC rather than the other side of the living room on a big screen but everything seems like it's spread across about four times as many screens as it needs to be rather than one screen having 4 or 6 "menu" options on it. But I'd just expect this series to be slick as fuck by now but I went to play a game online the other day, fired the invite out and the person came into the game and were then told that they had a player out of contract or an injury or something. Sure, no bother, hit the B button 28 times to get back to the main menu to move to the squad, fix that and if you're new and don't realise you can easily check for other stuff you then get another invite and go back in. It THEN tells him "Oh actually there's another thing we need you to do as well before you can use your existing squad." Great, cool, no way you could have put that into the initial message saying we'd missed something? No? Okay cool.
Then you've got how it seems to either give you far more information than you could possibly need or none at all. And it seems to explain the things you could work out for yourself, but then when you're in your umpteenth Squad Building Challenge sub-menu when it starts vomiting acronyms and game-modes at you without telling you what is involved in any of these things but feels the need to point out that "HEY PLAYING PLAYERS IN THEIR CORRECT POSITIONS IS A GOOD THING OKAY?" I feel like it explains the stuff I could happily work out for myself and doesn't on the things that could prevent me from having to waste my time or Google.
And finally, the most heinous crime of all, I keep turning off the soundtrack because every single song on it is a hate-crime against my ears and no matter whether I save my settings or whatever it comes back on every cunting time I start the game up.
There's more that isn't immediately coming to mind right now. I'll remember and post after I next finish playing with more as I find them. I'd hate to spare you my fascinating insights.
For balance, I did laugh at my own shit goalie's ineptitude earlier when I played a standard backpass to him, he didn't even try to control it and nearly Phil Babb'd himself on the post trying to recover the situation as the ball rolled in.
Oh, and Derek Rae's pronunciation of German names sounding like an Allo Allo Nazi is also good.

At this point in the game cycle pretty much every team you come up against will be stuffed full of top-rated cards. People still play like spastics though - with a bit of grinding you can pick up a solid enough squad without too much effort (look at Merse's for example and he only picked the game up a month or so ago).
Muller is a solid card - I have him as an AMC and he gets around all over the place with some banging finishes too.Keep it coming Ian.

Did the Bundesliga SBC and got Kostic. Better than Ginter, who I got the first time around, but it does mean I have 3 very good LMs from the Bundesliga now with Kostic, Perisic and Diaby.
Working on Verdi and Belotti and should be able to do them both for no outlay after some good weekly rewards.
Bought a bunch of 87 Dele's, 87 Maguires, 88 Mounts and then a couple of Sane's.
They were pretty much bottom of their ratings price and will office nice Prem/man U/Chelsea/England/Chelsea links that will likely be needed for whoever wins. Also nicely link to each other to get a good chem base if I use them.
I will do it if its Pogba and probably will if its Kante.
I am skipping Bundesliga I think. I got Kostic last time and there isnt a lot I would want. I do want to get Lukaku to use as my Serie A left back but will hold fire on that for now.

You are correct. Pogba will win but Kante would be ace. He's sort of been displaced from my team by Wijnaldun/Fabinho which makes me sad.
Rebic is available which is pretty interesting if you want to link Perisic + Zlatan/Ronaldo/Kessie

Apparently they messed up the Serie A TOTS and put the community players in there. Its still up right now so not sure whats going to happen but I did it and got Acerbi (93 so ill take it) just incase I get a free go at it later on.
I just did Vidal. Looks obscene with an engine - 93 is his lowest rating in any position (excluding GK)
Got TOTS Gnabry and Sommer from my pack reward. Right result.
