    Patrice O'Neal

Any other fans on here? As a pretentious dorky left-wing loser who generally prefers pseudy comedy, I should hate his work.

Pretty dodgy views on women, and most of his material is observational stuff/"women are like x, men are like y! ho ho ho". Any of those doubts are just overridden by the sheer quality and force of his comedy. He was fucking amazing.

Rediscovered his stuff again this weekend and have been bingeing on his stand-up shows and even his chat show appearances etc on youtube.

Elephant in the Room is easily in my top 3 favourite stand-up shows.

I reckon he is pretty overrated. The whole O and A period of stand up has dated quickly IMO.

I've never got it. It's like The Thick of It. It's crap, but the hundred people who think it's great are all prominent media and/or political wankers so we hear about it loads. He seems to have been mates with everybody people have actually heard of, and they all cite him as the best of them because he never got that popular and died.

Dieing was the best thing that happened to his comedy and Bill Burr running a night of comedy in his name every year.

Fucking love O'Neal. One of the best observational comedians to do stand-up and he'd be donning it with Bill Burr right now.

It's a weird one because I really can't stand Opie and Anthony and everything they stand for, but I just think Patrice was very very funny.

It's a subjective thing but I must admit that Patrice does occasionally annoy me in the same way Stanhope does; all the sorta switched on counter culturey American stand-ups of the last couple of decades seem to be big smelly small state liberals. I do appreciate the different perspective but they should all agree with my big interventionist socialist views gosh darn it!!

I'm surprised you dislike both of those. Name like a handful of stand-ups and comedy shows you think are funny if you can be arsed, I'm intrigued.

He is definitely funny and far too good for that shite that he was on last decade. It is a shame he didnt get a chance to go head to head with Cumia now that he is a full blown racist asshole.

I guess when I think of Patrice it is always his views on women, O and A and his many Fox News appearances.

He is definitely funnier than Jim Jeffries, Jim Norton, Bobby Kelly and all the other comics they got on. Apart Louie CK and Bill Burr

Edit: I think Stanhope suffers from a similar problem as Patrice but instead of dieing he drank himself to early state of.dementia. His young counter culture Bush era stuff is pretty good. IMO

I always found him funnier than Louis CK and bill burr tbh. Even before wankbeast shenanigans I thought Louis's sharpness and observational genius was overrated and Patrice's underrated. Burr is a good egg but not as laugh out loud funny for me, clive.

Burr's wife has killed his podcast for me. That and I feel alot of it can ruin future specials.

Patrice going head to head with other comics was always good value. He definitely got the better of everyone including Burr.

I think Norm Macdonald has a load of great singles rather than any decent albums. I really like some of his stupid jokes, but I don't think I could watch him simpering his way through two hours.

I tend to find stand-up comedians a bit annoying, but I like Bill Burr. He seems to have stood up to his profile growing, unlike Louis CK and Stewart Lee, who I did like when I first found them, but who seemed to almost become lower grade parodies of themselves as time went by. There is probably a distinction to be drawn between natural comedians who could make anything funny and [frustrated] writer comedians who couldn't.

I'm too out of step with it all to make any sort of list really, but I was thinking the other day that Fleabag (I never saw it first time round) is the best thing I've seen in years.

Actually, what am I saying. Mitch Hedberg is the best.
