Cosmic order restored then. Simply no way that chancing fuck could have had a World Cup win against his name without the universe collapsing.

France are super strong. However I think they have argentina running through their DNA. They will lose back-to-back finals for me.

It's better this way. To win a World Cup we should have to face down our oldest, most genuine enemies.

Varane was a monster. Giroud does help with linking the play but he’s still a bit of a dumpling.

I just need it to be 7pm tomorrow now. I'm not sure I can deal with a full day of work beforehand either, I already feel like I can't settle!

On Giroud, I'm not sure they need any pace up there when they have Mbappe on the right (even if he's forty metres away at the time).

If Real Madrid still have a liking for the galacticos thing, they've really got to go for him, haven't they? Got to be the likeliest player in the world to do a Messi/Ronaldo-like reign at the top.

I'll be at work as it happens. I was pondering skipping the whole thing but I'll probably have the radio on my phone and suffer with the rest of the country.

No option for an early finish?

I was meant to be in until 8pm, but I'll be out of there early. I would have happily thrown the most shameless sickie of my life if they hadn't sorted it out.

Nope. Surprised they haven't offered 10-6. Our company's French so that might be it. It could be all over by the time I get in at 9pm.

Aldi stores are all closing early so all their staff can be home for the football, if England get to the final. All workplaces should do that. For every game.

We're the only country in the world (of football nations anyway) that works during our own World Cup games. It just stops in most places.

I find the Mbappe fawning a bit much. He's obviously having a great tournament, and is a great talent, but you don't have to shit your pants every time he punts the ball past a 30 year centrehalf and scampers after it or completes a 5 yard pass. Lest we forget Wayne Rooney was running riot over an international competition at the same age.

Giroud's first shot on target is obviously going to be some ludicrous fluke goal in the final.

Mbappe's nineteen. How is the Rooney example an argument? He was on the way to being world class at that age too.

There's no real football history to that rivalry, right? Have you ever met in a really big game? I honestly can't think of one, which is surprising given the teams' strength. It's like how Germany and Brazil have only played once at a World Cup.

    Twice. 2002 final.

England have only played about six really big games ever, and about four of those were against Germany.

Who is going to win Player of the Tournament, btw? I'm wondering if my boy N'golo is in the mix at 80/1. I guess it'll be Mbappé as he's the more famous star.

I too am overly optimistic. If we were playing anyone else I wouldn't be, but I just don't think Croatia have anything to worry us. They haven't played anyone good to get here either.

    Neither have England though.

If the game were a fortnight ago I'd have been with Croatia, but I think fitness swings it. England should spend the first half knocking it about and wait for Croatia to PRESS themselves into a coma.

I do have worrying visions of England of old just utterly clueless in the face of talented midifielders knocking the ball about for 90 minutes but I think this England are different and Southgate will have more of an idea of what to do. Hope we start fast and grab the first and hope they wilt under the pressure and tiredness.

If it stopped today, I'd say Modric by a fairly clear margin. Even though he didn't quite hit his best, I'd have Hazard at two, and then Trippier at three. If England win the thing, he's surely a bolter for the Golden Ball, as crazy as that must have seemed.

    Mbappe gets young player.

I'm more using the FIFA logic of 'best player from the team seen as most likely to win the final'.
