I may be wrong, but I'm sure I looked into it a while ago and that was the case. I guess it's one of those 'intention' things, but it's never enforced on the odd occasions it does happen.
In that instance just then, I assume the Costa Rican was tying to pass it back to the 'keeper (as why else was he lofting it back towards him) and the fact that another player of the same team then touches it with his head doesn't (or shouldn't') break that chain as far as the backpass rule is concerned.
