How can they get rid of Boris Johnson and the country will be worse off for it? Only the fucking Conservative Party.

Liz Truss is a terrifying prospect.

I'm all for bringing it to Russia to cut short this shambles, but at least I understand the very real risk in doing that. That our potential future PM didn't seem to is more than worrying.

Can someone try to explain what the tories are thinking here? They’ve been given a golden opportunity to turn the party away from the negative connotations generated over the last three years and they end up with the final two candidates who were closely aligned to Johnson.

Are they mental, or are we missing something? If Labour don’t win in 2024, they need putting in the bin forever.

It's because (as they showed many times) they didn't really want to get rid of Boris, but were left with no option.

Truss absolutely can't win an election, she's too thick. Sunak... dunno.

I'm trying to convince myself that Sunak, being a clever man, could be quite a good Prime Minister with the right people around him. What I think I mean is we need a Dominic Cummings comeback.

With hardly any time to govern, it's about the way they will pitch against Starmer. Sunak, against Starmer, could well look like the cannier/less naive of two serious and awkward men. Truss against Starmer will just look like a complete clown and lose 150 seats.

I think if they sort the migrants and the protocol (in such a way that it constantly has to be 'saved') then they can win again, since the adverts write themselves. If they can't mobilise the Brexit vote then no chance, although a 2017 scenario still seems more likely than an outright Labour victory.

Day one of any Sunak premiership Labour should be sending Ed Miliband out to peanut Rishi's tie in the Commons corridor. He'd be finished instantly.

Sunak would win the next election. Too much of England defaults to voting Tory and really, really needs to be pushed away to consider going anywhere else. Truss might be enough of a braindead headbanger to carry on doing that. Sunak just needs to come up with a good line to deflect remarks about his wife's taxes and to avoid standing next to any particularly hench little girls and he'll be vanilla enough to get the result.

We'd be drowning in Russian Warheads long before it got to that.

Or enjoying 3 day weeks with rolling blackouts in which every Labour voter starves to death.

Or she'd be too busy trying to reopen all the mines so she can shut them down again.

I'm convinced it will be Cosplay Thatcher. My bastardised and misused version of Maximum Pain Theory dictates that it has to be her.

Truss shitting on the Treasury is good as long as it leads her to conclude that the problem is nobody being allowed to build anything anymore. If it's just reeeeee tax cuts then maybe not.

I have enjoyed every economist in the country saying "it would just make inflation worse" and her just giving it the big "nah mate".

Truss is making the same economic noises as Corbyn, but as she’s being endorsed by the Times and Telegraph, they’ll just gloss over that one.

If we had PR - or any other actual democratic
voting system - she might have a point, but under the current system the Tories win in my area no matter what, so it's a complete waste of time. I still turn up and vote though. Just for shits and giggles.

I'd have said the same all my life, but now the Lib Dems are poised to take it. Be the change you want to see in the world (preferably not a change to the Lib Dems, mind).

They managed to get into government once and immediately shat on their main support base (wanky students). The Lib Dems can fuck off.

The ponce part of me always wants to think that, but then you see them actually campaigning on the ground when they get a sniff in your local area and they are the fucking worst people. At least the Tories and Labour stand for something. The Lib Dems are horrible self-righteous snakes who will just shapeshift in order to get elected in the given seat. Their sudden transformation into the biggest NIMBY anti-housebuilding cunts going, when they got a sniff of winning in some well-to-do Tory seats, was utterly shameless.

And yet they’re still better. We’re not talking about traditional Conservatives, the country is being held to ransom by a gaggle of bottom feeders backed up by the 2019 Brexit Red Wallers who will sell their mothers to get themselves a second term. The half decent ones have long since been purged.
