I do think that Tyson will be forced to fight for a bit longer with the division opening up like this. Before last night he couldn't retire before beating AJ, but now he can't retire before beating Usyk either. If Wilder beats Tyson then we're potentially in for two years of amazing fights, but the odds of that happening are tiny.

Just watched the first 5 rounds of the fight and the fifth is the only you could consider giving to Joshua. I assume it goes downhill from here, which is saying something. Who came up with this strategy of his anyway? He looked half-cut from round 1. He can't really have either planned to outbox him or decided that was the best course of action after getting a little tap in the opening round can he? It's like the complete reverse of the Ruiz situation, you don't brawl with him if you can just pick him off at range, but you equally don't go to outbox the smaller guy who everyone knows is a much better boxer than you. No effort to cut off the ring or use his greater size in any way.

I really don't know if he can actually do strategy. He can try insofar as keeping his distance from a smaller man, but that's about the end of it. It's a pretty major flaw in what is probably the most physically gifted of the current crop.

Does he need a new team? Or is he just too thick to carryout what he gets taught? Because he MUST be coached on strategy / opponent management, surely?

I saw somebody suggest that he doesn't trust his chin, so won't brawl with anyone or risk using his size/power in case they get inside him. In that case lad retire.

There was a pic of the scorecards... completely dodgy as you'd expect.

Yeah, it does sort of look like he is scarred by the Ruiz fight, but as you say, if you're a heavyweight and you're afraid of getting hit by a much smaller guy then you may as well just jack it.

He needed the approach of rounds 5 and 6 in the first two rounds.

He just fights like a robot with little/no ability to make adjustments. In that way I could see him being properly calibrated for the rematch and battering Usyk. I think there's definitely a case for him/his group overthinking things, which causes the weird tunnel vision/paralysis.

He should just bloat right up and lean all over him for twelve rounds.

He’s only really been tagged what three times in his career prior to last night(Whyte, Klitschko and Ruiz). I think it’s since Klitschko put him down he’s never really been the same. He was lucky to get out of that fight in tact but it was his own fault for gassing himself and since then he’s always seemed reluctant to finish people off for fear of getting caught to me.

I don't know much about the technical nature of boxing, but that AJ v Klitschko fight was immense. One of the best I've seen.

In hindsight, we don’t even know if he could beat Ruiz in a fair fight. That Saudi ring was twice the size of the ring yesterday when Ruiz main weakness is movement.

    That's how it's done.

Wilder should have continued his policy of keeping his mouth shut. He always comes across as a right tit when he tries to talk the talk.

Such an embarrassing effort from Wilder. He's going to get ruined. Tyson round 1 @ 25/1, let's go.

Wilder looked exhausted 30 seconds into round one. This looks so weird. It's a great trilogy.

Hopefully no long term damage for Wilder. These fights have taken a lot of out him. Fighting exhausted looks awful. Fury is just a freak.

That was impressive from Wilder. I've got a lot more respect for him after that and would love to see him carry on and take on the rest of the top dogs. If he keeps improving, who knows.

    What a fight.

As much of a chump as he has seemed in the past Wilder walks through anyone else in the division, he's unlucky he's been paired with Fury for the multi-fight deals. Showed unbelievable heart to hang in as long as he did and was still landing the odd shot that would have put most other fighters down even when he was dead on his feet. He might even have made the count at the end there but enough is enough.

Just watched it now - from the 6th onwards it's just an almighty beating from Fury. Absolute battering. He's taken Wilder apart round after round, could have stopped a few rounds earlier.

And yet he still rocked him a bit at the end of the tenth, having looked like a walking TKO for about three rounds.

Hopefully he hasn't suffered any serious damage as were he to have the case for stopping the fight earlier [and thus probably denying it all time classic status] would be hard to counter.

Dunno. He's tagged him but Fury's not budged, he's just throwing on muscle memory at that point.

No money on Wilder. I was impressed with how long he lasted and managed to watch it oblivious of the result [not live obviously] which probably made it feel more at risk than knowing that Fury was going to win at X point. It obviously was fairly inevitable as the rounds passed.

I was fairly worried Tyson was going to get knocked out throughout the whole fight tbh. It started to look more certain Tyson would win but the danger was always there.

Wilder v Usyk would be a great clash of styles to decide the number 2 of the division, so hopefully we see that, but I feel like Wilder will throw a tantrum and retire.

Give me Wilder-AJ to see the latter smashed. The bronze dosser being pushed close to retirement might even mean AJ's team won't pussy out.
