Yeah I’m using Adblock. I ended up getting a second adblocker specifically for Youtube and it’s all good now.

Beware though, it will be coming for you soon

    I've been thinking about getting a Pi-hole

    Slightly technical write-up.

It's not really the ads per-se, it's the amount of awful tracking shit.

I haven’t had an ad on a website do me any harm in years. With all the trackers most of them are useful these days anyway.

i made one once but ended up scrapping it because I wanted to use my pi something else. I can’t say I ever really noticed it doing anything, but I guess that’s a positive.

I've just used a photo booth for some passport photos. Y'know how they usually show guidelines so you can position yourself right? This one just has a black screen and a countdown. 10 failed attempts. Fuck off.

Why does nearly every ad these days have to have a song slowed down and destroyed by some breathy bint who can’t sing? Heard the proclaimers be the latest to get the treatment.

I blame John Lewis, but it's actually probably the fault of/collateral damage from Donnie Darko.

These things are never the fault of the originator.

John Lewis and Gary Jules did it very well, it's the legions of shit that followed that's caused the problem.

I'm seconding Niko with Donnie Darko. The fad was kicked off with that Gears of War ad that was all over TV and they didn't even bother changing the song.

That works so poorly. The character doesn't move in anything like the right way for the music to compliment him.

My point was Phonics that it was a shit choice of song. I think that was your point too. I don't know why we're now seemingly disagreeing.

As someone who has to make this sort of stuff with less budget, less choice, I think I just get overly defensive.

I just went to Sainsburys and had to wait nearly 10 minutes because TWO people didn't know how to enter £120 into the system...

They ended up putting through that I gave them £110 and gave me £10 on top of the change so it worked out even.

Well that's exactly half of it too! They use shit entirely wrong. I've heard of the "ol' onion bag" to describe the net, but this asshole went and used it like the ball is the onion.

And it's always "mate". Muhfucka you are from CONNECTICUT and your family's heritage is PORTUGUESE.

I’ve definitely heard of the onion bag as the net before but nowhere near enough that it would be regarded as common.

I have, although it's a very old term that's been consigned to history. You know what's difficult? Telling a three year old 'fucking idiot' is not a polite thing to call someone. The nephew's started doing it and, for him to understand why it's bad would require giving him too much knowledge in the first place. No context or anything, it's just a thing he'll say.

    Also, it's funny as fuck.

Perhaps it's an Irish thing cause upon searching most relate back to Tommy Smyth, who would very well likely be the source of inspiration for my asshole friend's new vocabulary.

It is, but has it ever been used in a non-jokey/ironic way?

In other football parlance gone wrong annoyance news, am I alone in thinking that the dominos advert that talks about putting it in the 'top bins' is an affront? Top bin surely? I may have moaned about this before.

Agreed but asking Americans to pick up on irony is a lost cause.

edit: No, the phrase is definitely top bins.

Apparently this is more topical than I imagined as 'top bin' (and top bins) was (were), apparently (according to Soccer AM twitter at least) added to the OED last week.

“Either of the top corners of the goal; (also) a goal scored by kicking the ball into either of the top corners.”

The adjective form - ‘top bins’ - is also described as “in the top corner of the goal”.

I can't find the video anymore but when 'Soccer' first broke through in the States and some commentator said that 'he blasted it into the upper 90' is burnt into my brain. Upper 90? It just makes so little sense as a way of describing the goal.

This is very niche but Ken Early of Second Captains doing 'Champions League Weekly' style dubbings of Egyptian Commentary of Salah was so good.

"Top Bins. Top Bins" in a monotone voice as this Egyptian goes mental in the background.

The 90 degree angle makes a lot more sense than describing it as a bin, though that’s not exactly a stretch.

I found the clip and because I'm a nice guy I uploaded it. Mostly because I'd forgot how funny the phrase 'Inspect the damage' is. Arabic is such a good language.
