Meh, why not. As long as they add proper shit nations like Fiji ( and Scotland lol) and not some bland European sides.
How the fuck did that happen?
At least call it the generic international thread for stuff when there's no specific games on (so as the next post that's not about the 48 team world cup has somewhere to go). I was going to start one earlier but I thought there would be gurning.
So glad we avoided the gurn.
I'm sure if they tried they could come up with a format that gave us even more pointless international games.
16 groups of 3, lol.
Presumably everyone would have to play each other twice, as having 2 games per team would lead to way too many ties, and way too many final games where both teams can rig it to eliminate whoever isn't playing. Playing the same team twice in such a short space of time would be shit.
Terrible idea however they do it.
Edit- that was terrible maths there. Oops.
Do 48 teams, but do it with a 24 team pre-group stage thing that has your Jamaicas, Uzbekistans and Scotlands, with the best 8 qualifying for the tournament outright.
I guess that doesn't do much for TV revenue though.
Isn't that just essentially the playoffs that we already have but a year later?
Honestly if they did 4 games per group and only the top team advacing to the 16 it might be dope. The main problem is 3 games isnt enough and teams dont try anything because you can basically be fucked after one game. And 2 teams out of 3 advancing is retard tier too.
I love a mock draw, so I've done one based on the current FIFA rankings, the way they normally set the draw up, and how I think they would probably distribute the 16 extra teams globally. This is an epically shit idea, Gianni.

Thought I was going to run out of alphabet there and resort to group theta. Anyway, so we've sorted those groups and thus far 48 games have been played in a completely nonsensical format where one of the teams is disadvantaged by the other two knowing what they have to do going into the last game. Are we taking 1 through from each? Two? Fuck me.
Why can't they just leave it alone. Anyone who has played that stupid Nations League on FM will know groups of 3 just don't work. That's going to be even worse than any World Cup format when it comes in.
This is why I want to go to the Russian World Cup, have to get in there before they go and ruin it (see: Euro 2016).
You'll get the absolute shit kicked out of you, Spoon.
'No, not... Not my camera!'
My friend speaks Russian, so everything will be fi... oh, he's also Jewish.
He'll get the bribes right down at least.
Just get yourself an Adidas tracksuit and don't smile at people for no reason.
The main problem will actually be convincing his dad, who's full-on Russian and got the fuck out when the USSR collapsed, but not before inheriting both an understandable resentment toward the antisemitism he faced in Russia and their tendency towards conspiracy theories. For example, if my friend goes to the World Cup he'll never be able to work for the U.S. government. Or he'll just be murdered for being Jewish.
4 matches per group then?
Lame.
There's only 3 teams in a group so it would be either 2 or 4...?

It's an awful idea and it'll take decades to ruin football but more and more little things are starting to add up.
It's a pretty blatant grab for votes from teams that couldn't qualify for a 32-team World Cup, right?
Probably not votes at this stage but certainly favour. Platini pioneered the technique in UEFA.
I think things like allowing South Africa to have a World Cup are great, but squeezing a bunch of weaker nations in is crap.
Also, what's worth noting is that FIFA's income pretty much all comes from selling the television rights to the World Cup finals, so they need those rights to be as valuable as possible. Having scenarios where the most valuable teams - Brazil, England and the USA being the biggest three, with the likes of Mexico and the other European giants also figuring - do not qualify simply can't happen, and 48 teams is a good way to ensure they qualify each time.
