Are you talking about tamales? You can definitely get them individually.

Are they Mexican? All the Mexican stuff I tried in Texas was amazing, and I assume it's not even as good as you'd get south of the border.

According to wikipedia, it's dough with stuff cooked in it.

And then you put it in bread, Pepe?

Does anybody actually drink horchata in Mexico or is that another of the many things made up elsewhere and attributed to you, Pepe?

    Horchata.

In Arizona we typically get Sonoran style Mexican food and you pretty much always get a pair. So they are always sold as "tamales". Or if you work in an office with more than 10 people somebody's grandmother sells massive batches of incredibly good tamales once a month as a side business.

Mostly, I was laughing at Jimmy following up "Mexicans must eat beans" with "Americans must get everyone's culture wrong."

I have honey and may be a little dried fruit in mine. Very occasionally if I have time I'll have it on a plate with some cornflakes on top as if I'm five again.

On a plate? Must be a bit messy.

I use to have porridge with brown sugar covering the top when i was a youngster. i'd only skim off the top layer with the brown sugar...and then give the rest to my mum.

On a dinner plate, if you get it right you can eat it in a spiral (from the outside obviously) and it's the same temperature all the way through. It's only messy if it's too runny or you're Giggles. I suspect it was a way to get it to cool down faster when we were children.

They are. You can probably get top quality stuff in Texas.

    Horchata.
Horchata is very common and absolutely delicious. And that's the traditional rice one, there is also coconutI one which is simply glorious.

I have. It is very good and the flavor is less 'special' than what you would imagine considering what it is and how it looks.

To be fair, there was very little in Texas that wasn't top notch food-wise. The Mexican stuff was definitely one of the highlights though.

On this point, for everyone going around saying they ate a panini, you're wrong, it's a panino. Panini is plural. It's definitely not just an American thing.

How often have I heard people say panini? Often enough to have an understanding of what a panini is, and enough for it to be comparable to some Mexican shit no one has ever heard of.

I'm not suggesting that everyone is going around mumbling on about paninis.

Plenty of people know that but you'll still sound like a dick if you go into a cafe and order panino. Panini is accepted now. Get over it.

It's like latte. It's essentially asking for a 'milky'. Missing the 'caffe' is the accepted norm now, so people don't chimp out over it.

That people aren't doing the rest of the ordering in Italian excuses any misuse of 'panini'. It's accepted the English usage, whereas 'panino' hasn't been used by anybody ever. It's comparable to, say, 'expresso'.

I once heard someone refer to a lone man with a camera as a 'paparazzo', and wasn't sure whether to be impressed or smash them to death with a golf club. In the end I chose neither.

What is the difference between a piccolo and a macchiato?
Traditionally, a Piccolo Latte is a ristretto shot (15 – 20 ml) topped with warm, silky milk served in a 100 ml glass demitasse (small latte glass) … basically, a baby latte, as the Italian pronunciation suggests. There have been other names for this drink, such as the Spanish version Cataldo, or a Mezzo-Mezzo.

    What.

Is a cortado just a piccolo then? I saw it appear on menus recently and wasn't very sure. I suppose that I've never seen anywhere serve both should have been a giveaway.

I do like a piccolo, but I'm too uncouth to drink it in any more than two mouthfuls.

Temperature control kettle seems like a quite remarkable waste of money.

The boss buys them in work so I just add to that order to kick in another discount and save myself the postage. Works out around 25c a go which is grand. The Lidl ones are grand when stuck too.
