Quade is the biggest bottler I've ever seen on the rugby pitch. I don't doubt he's trying, but the big occasions clearly get to him.

Can't believe Australia can't produce another decent 10.

There's about 5 or so prospects from Brisbane and Sydney at the.moment. Hopefully they find skills coaches that can instill consistency and not lol Foley them.

Brad Thorn spending the off season focusing on defence is so refreshing.

It's been a solid few years since I've watched rugby, but I'll always support the Reds over any other Australian team. Brad Thorn is incredible, and if he's at the helm, I'm optimistic.

I wonder if he has actually ended up making less money away from league than he would have done sticking with it. He would be on a million a year at Brisbane (with all the shady add-ons), plus Queensland and Australia... He would be raking it in by now. Twat.

Apparently he was strongly advised to take the multi-million dollar deal with the Suns because he had racked up enormous gambling debts to bad people in Brisbane.

Nobody seems to know, but Ryan Bailey was involved as well. The club has just helped him through a drug case, so it must be a good one to cut him now along with their marquee forward[s]. Dave Taylor though. Jesus. He had landed literally the best/easiest money he will ever make, and he fucks it up in record time.

FuiFui MoiMoi was outrageously good on his day. Which was about six weeks in 2009.

Was Dave Taylor ever actually good at football?

I was a bit out of the loop when he first came in at the potential stage, so I've gone through him risking wasting his potential, wasting his potential, and all this sad shit since he left the Titans. It's all the more amazing when you bear in mind that he has played for Wayne Bennett, Michael Maguire, Mal Meninga, and Ricky Stuart - and they have all fucked him off.

Dave Taylor has a name for himself when it comes to party drugs. So if Ryan Bailey has just recieved treatment then chances are Taylor was right next to.him. @Lewis

I remember when Taylor first showed up at the Broncos he was pure athletic wrecking ball. If only he had Brad Thorn's brain.

You forget that Sam Thaiday is still relatively young, but he seems destined for a media career. I think they will just go through the season with what they have and then recruit for the promotion push (or pick up any idiot who gets himself sacked from elsewhere).

Has anyone made a team on sldreamteam.co.uk? (I can make a league if anyone wants to.)

Just wondering if anyone's spotted any 50k bargains, cos I'm struggling more than ever to stay within budget.

Also, and I ask this every season, are any of the new boys from NRL who are now in Super League expected to be amazing? Tyrone Roberts looks mint but ehh he plays for Warrington so who knows.

    50k list:
    Alex Sutcliffe - rhinos
    Arthur Romano - dragons
    Cameron Smith - rhinos
    Harry Newman - rhinos
    Jake Spedding - saints
    Jake Shorrocks - wigan
    James Worthington - wigan
    Jared Simpson - giants
    Joe Cator - hull KR
    Jordan Abdull - hull FC
    Jordan Crowther - trinity
    Josh Woods - wigan
    Kieran Gill - tigers
    Liam Walsh - widnes
    Liam Salter - hull KR
    Matthew English - giants
    Matthew Lees - saints
    Mikolaj Oledzki - rhinos
    Mitch Clark - tigers
    Nabil Djalout - dragons
    Owen Farnworth - widnes
    Will Maher - tigers

I would take Mikolaj Oledzki first, any other Leeds player, and then Jordan Abdull on the assumption that they loan the bloater out somewhere.

Website is terrible so I'm struggling to make the changes I want. Might just leave it as this bunch of losers:

I still don't get positions in League. They don't hook, they aren't shaped like a hooker, why are they hooker?

And how are you a scrum half without scrums?

I've managed to get it down to the pretty boy fancy dan wears 7, the big heffalumping oaf wears 8, and the 9 is the sort of tactical leader.

Other than that the positions all look completely interchangeable to me.

The hooker distributes the ball from the play-the-ball, and was expected to challenge for the ball when scrums were still contested. For better or worse, it is probably the most important position at the moment, and a good one will also make more tackles in a match than his union counterpart will in a year. The scrum-half is the half who puts the ball into the scrum and receives it out the back (once where it was won, and now where they just chuck it through; but either way executed in less than ten minutes and not decisive in any given result). He then gives it to the stand-off half, who stands off the scrum in order to start the attack. In Australia those positions are known as 'half-back' and 'five-eighth' respectively as part of their quest to convince themselves that they invented the sport.

Hooker and scrum-half are the most specialised positions in that you can't win anything with crap ones, but if you start putting people out of position they tend to be exposed at one end or the other.

The Super League War and wanting the game to be as fast as possible ruined League for me.

I bore people to death with it but 90's League was brilliant because of how specialized the positions were. Down here it is just a bunch of PED filled super athletes running and defending their lines. Yuck.

Positional specialisation is a sneakily important part of compelling team sports.

I was slightly worried when ODI cricket seemed to be heading down the path of ten bits and pieces players + keeper who can bat first, for basically that reason.

Daryl Clark is probably the best option in terms of being good/important and getting loads of minutes (Wigan will likely rotate Sam Powell through games, and he will be playing off crap forwards). Go with him.

Jack Walker is going to be immense.

I fancy Saints this year unless 1) Ben Barba misses half the season (injury, suspension, release, accidental suicide); or 2) they get Leeds in the Grand Final. If that happens I'm cashing out.
